King crab legs are gone from Coral Reef?

has anyone eaten there within the last month to confirm this change? As a PP stated, a recent update of 'Ohana menu shows the popular cheese potatoes were back but people who ate there within days said was not true, it was still noodles.

You can't always count on the All Ears menues really being up to date, regardless of when they say they're updated. Sometimes I think people report things that just aren't true & they get posted to All Ears

...we found all kinds of discrepancies on our May 2008 trip...even on menues that supposedly were very recent updates.

TDC Nala is right. Even if they scrap the DDP, the good dining at WDW is over. Just like the really great things about the F&W Festival are over.

Another way Disney is dumbing down

Why not place the higher end items as an additional cost to the DDP, often restaurants do this on fixed price menus, or have an * next to the item if not available on the DDP, why do the rest of us who want to eat nice meals have to suffer the consequences of the DDP

We still haven't heard from anyone who has been there within the past few weeks. Since there are errors on several other menus on the same site, I'm still holding out hope.

I have an ADR for next week and I'll be sure and post when I return.

I am leaving in 2 weeks and had an ADR for Coral Reef. I specifically chose this restaurant for the Crab Legs. Needless to say, I changed it yesterday to Chefs de France. At least I can get a nice steak there.

That may be true in the short term, but over the long haul who knows what they'll do? The trend in America up until this economic downturn was toward more interesting food options everywhere, including at fast food places. So you never know how things may change in the future. If Disney sees profits to be made in offering upscale menus, they'll do it.

But I agree, it'll take someone who can see beyond the immediate gains of doing things like removing lettuce from the hamburgers to save $0.001 per customer. (Not an actual example from Disney; just the type of thing MBAs are trained to think about.)

I can't believe it!! I purposely booked the Coral Reef for the King Crab Legs. I am leaving for WDW in 10 days. I am SO disappointed that I might cancel my DDP all together. I can't believe that a NY Strip is $34 dollars

I just got a 22 oz porterhouse from Longhorn and it was $22

We've also noticed a steady decline in TS food quality over the last several years (since '04 or '05). We usually did several dinners and a character breakfast each trip (we paid cash, not on the DDP). One year, we stayed at WL with the "free" DDP (in 2006) and absolutely hated it. For us, the quality of the TS meals was totally not worth the trade-off in having to plan your days around meals that had to be scheduled weeks/months in advance. If you go during "free" dining but aren't on the dining plan and therefore didn't make ressies months in advance, you're pretty much out of luck. If you can get a seat, it's either super early or super late. And, none of the current TS dinners are worth either force-feeding myself early or closing the restaurant. Now, I know many people plan everything months in advance and have no problem with that. Since it's just my DH and myself, we like to be more flexible. Prior to the popularity of the DDP, we had little trouble getting TS ressies once on property (maybe a couple of days before, etc.), and the food seemed much better. (I totally agree that it's likely the DDP overall, not specifically the "free" time -this is just our experience since this is the time of year we go.)

We didn't do any TS meals with Disney last year for this reason (we stayed at SOG) and aren't planning on doing any this year, either. The quality is just not there. I must say the service we've received from the staff has always been great, but let's face it, you go for the food. In our own lives, we've all noticed a recent rise in food costs, but the Disney slide started way before that. I don't think folks will continue (long term) to pay inflated prices for food that's no better than you can get at your local restaurants. I think this is completely in line with many other changes Disney has made. I just hope they don't go too far and turn Disney into "just another theme park."

I recommended a friend to CR who was there last week and they were gone as of last week. She didn't like anything else on the menu. I felt bad because I recommended the place to her. At least she enjoyed the atmosphere. They are no longer on the menu and CM did not know if they would be coming back at all.

This is disappointing. Good thing I didn't let DH see any of the menus before we left! He'll be mad (if) he ever finds out what he missed. I don't think I really want to change our ressie over it because we've got the diver and personalized menus scheduled for Coral Reef to celebrate birthdays. If they quit doing the diver and menus, then yup, I'm outta there!

The DDP is not free food, at nearly $40 per adult and $10 per child, per day of your stay, I would consider that a fair price. They have modified their DDP to exclude tips, I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time. I'm not a regular DDP purchaser because the one year I used it, I had several table service unused, which lost me money and gained Disney quite a profit! Disney offers these options, we pay a fortune for everything (not complaining, just saying) and then they tighten their belts when people use the options they offer! Makes no sense! And hence, I have my reservation for next year already locked!!!!

Shoot, before WDW introduced the DDP all of the restaurants menu's had different specialties, wonderful food and overall a great dining experience.

They were even known for their worldclass dining but alas, no longer. Even the signature restaurants, which we loved, has changed IMO. Now the signature restaurants are what a lot of the 1TS restaurants use to be prior to the DDP.

1) DDP really is wonderful, huh?
2) Let's face it, the restaurant public DOES NOT CARE ABOUT QUALITY.
3) They buy DDP so they can pig-out, regardless of quality or uniqueness.
4) If they cared, the eateries would be less crowded.
5) But, due to the ability to load-up at meal time, the eateries are crowded.
6) So, we now have to live with eateries getting more mediocre.
7) Or, stop eating at WDW.
8) That is what we have done.
9) We eat at only five WDW sit-downs, and only two of them are Disney-owned.

We agree that WDW dining's quality has considerably decreased with the onset of the DDP. Every year, the menus get more and more stripped to the point that many seem to have the same food. I agree the signature restaurants are not what they used to be either. I have also notice a decline in service due to the crowds but not to the extent there is a decline in quality of food offered. More and more, we go off site to eat. We have acutally been enjoying Universal's dining more than Disney's in the last few years (better quality, lower price and no ADR's needed for the most part). This was Disney's decision which added more to the bottom line $ for them. Can't blame them since they need to answer to their stockbrokers. Most guests are first time or infrequent visitors who don't have a reference to compare what it used to be like. The regular guests who have been alientated are probably less than 5%.

I just wonder if the crab legs removed from the menu at coral reef was really about losing money??? You can go to any chinese buffet around here and get all the crab legs you want for about $13.

Yes, thanks to the DDP. All restaurants have lost or are losing their best foods. Under DDP a restaurant will receive a fixed dollar amount for each meal sold, whether it is the highest or lowest costing items ordered. The restaurants have to make a profit. They cannot make money with high quality/cost ingredients and have to cut back.

If Basic DDP is eliminated within six months you will find almost all of the restaurants will have brought back their high end items.

I have been against the ddp from it's conception and could not agree with your posts more.

I'm so happy I got rid of the ADR AT Coral Reef 2 months ago, MY DGF wanted to go there and get the crab legs and I have been hearing about it for 2 months now... LOL I win,,

Free DDP: 1 month out of the year... not to blame
Popularity of DDP... Disney knew what they where doing : not to balme

Companies maximizing profit and minimizing costs ... to balme "winner"

The way people rationalize things is funny... look at gas prices.. people who are eco friendly blame it on SUV's, people who don't like the war blame it on oil prices and oil stock prices... ETC... now just like with disney in wdwinfo.com under news it says "Disney continues to surprise Wall Street" I don't like corporations : with me I blame it on the oil companies, exxon has another record profit....

yes I know some of you blame alot of catagories, thats fine : but my OPINION and BELIEF Companies and corporations are the bad guys...

Do they offer a filet at Chefs de France? Last time we were there, the beef offering was steak frites -- the dish is a classic at Paris bistros but the way Chefs de France prepared it, it was inedible.
