With regards to the warrenty; you might want to contact
Amazon, wouldn't be surprised if Bestbuy was trying to up you one.
I've been using Kindles for my family ever since they first started sending Kindles outside of the US. Some bought and sent to our side of the Channel (am Dutch) and some bought through Amazon and delivered to our WDW resort to bring home myself.
Over the years have had some problems with one and never ever has there been a second hesitation when it comes to warranty. It is perfect service. Have had a replacement sent free of charge (and sent faulty one back on Amazons charge) about 8 months after buying when having a battery problem. Had it on my door step within 36 hours. Was a known problem with that type back then and we got a newer type to replace it. That newer one now is having some troubles and eventhough it very theoretically is "old", Amazon will do nothing but offer perfect warranty including yet again replacing it once I get home (is my dads kindle and his english is too bad, so waiting for me to come back and deal with it for him). All free of charge, no doubting me or having to ask for it, but simply looking at the records, seeing that software help didn't do the trick and believing their product should not be displaying the problem we are having, no matter how much or little used it is.
This actually is one of the reasons we are such kindle believers in the family and have multiple ones. It has shown and continues to show that problems can always happen but if it does, we know it has proper warranty and service.
