Kindle with Special Offers $114 Available May 3rd

If I didn't already have a kindle I would jump all over this. The advertising wouldn't bother me, I barely even look at the screensaver anyway.

Gosh, I didn't realize being a budget boarder makes me stupid. Oh, and a sucker too.:lmao:

I don't see what the big deal is. When I buy a TV I know I am going to be bombarded with ads. I just ignore them. And I don't expect to get a tv for free because I'm subjected to ads. Same with
magazines.
Don't think you're stupid at all.( prone to overreacting maybe and perhaps in need of a hobby). But a lot of the
people on this board have crossed the line from frugal to cheap long ago.

i have a kindle and I would never want any form of ads...it is my quiet, book reading time...I can get ads when I watch tv. JMO

If one didn't open the Kindle cover until after the Kindle was turned on... one would never even see the ads, save for the small bar at the botton while you're browsing your library. Seems pretty unintrusive to me and if I were in the market for a Kindle without 3G I'd get it. Besides... any $20 coupon for $10 essentially gets you books at half the price of any other e-book retailer.

Sweet!

I really don't get why people are so bothered by screen saver ads. Who looks at the screen savers? :confused3 If the ads were displayed when you turned pages and then you had to wait 30 secs to see the next page I could understand.

What am I missing?

You are too funny.
How am I over reacting? And I need a hobby? Where did that come from? I already have a hobby. Obviously, I read.

I really need someone to explain to me how having a few ads on an ebook reader constitutes being cheap. I have ads running on my computer right now, as I type this. And my computer was not a cheap purchase.

Dh and I are thinking about buying a Kindle. I am not too familiar on how they work so, to the Disers that have a Kindle, do you think the ads will become annoying? I know it says that they will not interrupt with the reading but will they become overwhelming in the future? I guess no one will really know that cause this is something new, but is it THAT much of a problem?

Thanks for any help.

Cyndi

No, I'm not kidding. I've had Kindles since they first came out so I know how tgey work, thanks.

I know it's hard for some on the budget board to understand, but some of us aren't out to pinch pennies at all costs. You're only saving $25 dollars- really not worth it. I get enough advertising in the rest of my life.

I think the whole thing is silly but it'll be interesting to see how many people get suckered into it.

Me too. I wonder how many people will act like this is a big deal? :confused3

Do you leave it in wi-fi/3g mode? If you change it to airplane mode it drains your battery much, much slower. I use my Nook daily and have it set to airplane mode and only have to charge it every 4 weeks. I only turn on wifi mode when I want to download books. HTH!

It's on airplane mode. Right now DH uses it at night for about an hour. He's annoyed by having to charge it often. Maybe it's just our unit.?

My co-worker has a 3G Nook and I have a Wifi only Kindle. Even with her 3G turned off she has to charge hers all the time compared to my Kindle. I don't leave the Wifi on all the time and I read about 30 minutes a day on average and I have only charged mine 2x since the initial charge at Christmas. She uses her Nook about the same and she charges hers every 2-3 weeks. I think part of it is the touch screen bar at the bottom on the nook.

We have the 3G and yes, Dh is charging it every 2 weeks approx. He likes it and I think it's best for him, since he reads less than I do. I read off and on during the day, so I need a long charge. I do have to finish my non digital books first and I should get it done before the Kindle comes in May.

It's not a huge or big deal. It's a nice amount of money off, so we have more to buy digital books with. That's all. I don't think I'm necessarily cheap, but using that money to buy more "books" is where my head is at with this.

I don't understand how some have to throw out digs. :confused3

It would have to be way less than a $25 discount for me to buy it. maybe if it was $100 instead of $114 I'd consider it.

I recently bought the $79 nook and was not happy with the customer service I received when I had a problem with it so I'm returning it and am going to buy a Kindle wifi.

That's a great point about the ads not being there if you keep it closed until the unit is turned on. Most of the time you wouldn't see them. So you would only see them when you're downloading books?
