Kindle w/Special Offers took under a month to pay for itself!

I'm a little amazed. I dilly-dallied for quite a while over whether or not to get the KSO, but as of today I've had it for a little under a month and it has paid for itself. I've taken advantage of several offers and bought only stuff I would have bought anyway and I've saved about $150, or $11 more than the Kindle itself costs. Today was the capper. I used the 50% off back to school groceries and racked up big savings on food we regularly eat.

This does not include all the free ebooks I've gotten.

Note that this was without using the 20% off laptop code. Had I needed a laptop, the kindle would have paid for itself with one order. But I'm not in the market right now, so I passed on that one.

If you're wondering whether or not to get one, I would recommend it. The ads are not bothersome at all and the savings are great. And no, I don't work for Amazon! ;)

Thanks to all here who helped talk me into it!

I keep hearing of all these great offers and it is a bit disappointing that all the people who own prior Kindles can't take advantage of them. It is a different story if you bought yours after they came out, but I got mine for Christmas when it wasn't an option. I wish there was a way to update your exisiting Kindle to receive the special offers if you want them and don't mind the ads.

Enjoy your savings OP, I am glad it is working out for you :goodvibes

Can I ask an off topic question...did you get the 3g model? was wondering if you can do email and surf the web at all? I am confused by all this... thanks for listening..

I love my Kindle w/SO! I have saved so much money with them on things I were going to buy anyway, like saving $40 on the printer I've been pining for, books, jewelry for gifts, MP3's, etc.

You can do Facebook and Twitter, but no email or browsing.

I got the special offers kindle last week, and haven't seen any offers that I would use yet. I think once when an previous offer has passed it doens't come back right? Would like the laptop offer and the $10 gc!

I can't wait to get mine. I purposely ordered the special offers model because I want to get deals. LOL

In fact, you can do email and browsing. I DIS on my Kindle when I'm out of town all the time if I'm not traveling with my iPad. It's slow and clunky but it works. I don't use it for email - I think you have to have a gmail account for that, but it does work.

Sell your current Kindle and use the money to buy the Special Offers one.

I decided back in July that I wanted one for my birthday (July 12) and we've the money put back for it but I haven't ordered it yet. I keep reading posts like this and it's getting so hard to wait.

I'm waiting because I read an internet rumor of a new or upgraded model possibly coming out in October. The suggestion being that if a new model or upgraded version comes out then the ones out now will drop in price. I'm really wondering now if there's any truth to it or if I should just go ahead and order one, the Special Offers model of course! :thumbsup2

I'm a frugal person so I like to save money when and where I can but this waiting is about too much! :dance3:

Thank you OP-I'm guilty of not even looking at the offers :rolleyes1
I just saved $100 stocking up on trail mix and whatnot :woohoo:

I bought the $114 Kindle with special offers. One of the special offers was a $100 Amazon gift card if I signed up for an Amazon credit card. :)

I don't know about all of them but the $20 GC for $10 has shown up twice so far. So has the $10 account credit one.

Cool, those are the kind of offers I want... so I can buy books. ROTF. I have a folder full of them on my computer now, but those won't last forever....
