DD LOVES the Kindle she received for Christmas. Santa dropped it down the chimney last night. Luckily - she still believes, cuz if you don't - you just get underwear.:lmao:

Now - to the question - when I purchased it (and the extended warranty) I kept it in DH's name - as that is who has the Amazon account.

DD is wondering if she should "transfer" it into her name.

My only hesitation is - if I would ever get my own kindle (and since DD will be leaving for college in the fall) are we better off having them registered to the same name? Or should we each have our own "kindle identity"?

Thank you for any insight!

There are 3 factors when keeping them on the same account.
1. Will you want to read each others books? If you'd be interested in reading what she bought and vice versa then keeping them on the same account would allow you to share books. If she buys something you know you're not interested in you don't have to download it to your kindle, it'll just stay in the "archived items" folder. If you only read romance novels and she only reads sci-fi and you know you'll never want each others books it would almost be better to have separate accounts.

2. If they're on the same account and she's a big spender on books and you want her to pay for them, you'll have to keep track if the Kindles stay on the account they're on now. When you purchase a book on the Kindle it uses "one click" so you can't pick which credit card gets charged, it automatically goes to the main card on the account. I have a friend who shares a kindle account with her 2 sisters and before they buy a book they apply a gift card to the account for the books price. One sister instead of applying a new gift card each time buys gift cards in $50 increments but since the other two add the correct amount for their book each time, the one sister who has $50 is only used by her because the others add their own gift card before making a purchase.

3. Is hers a special offer Kindle? Will yours be too? If you both want to use the offers then its best to have them on different accounts so you get your own code. The offers haven't been that great lately, but there was a recent $5 off of a $10 purchase directly from amazon (no 3rd party) and it must be physical goods (no Kindle books, downloads, or gift cards) so it would be good to have two of those if you already shop on amazon.

Thanks!! My kindle is merely hypothetical at this point. I really hesitated between getting DD a Kindle Fire and a kindle touch (with special offers).

I appreciate the info that you can "put GC's on the account in advance."
