well actually if you do have to return it to
amazon, you call the Customer Service, they ship out the replacement Fire - and send you a mailer -
so you keep your Fire till the replacement comes - you send back the replacement, with Amazon paying for the return shipping - its really easy peasy...
I have asked this question on another boards (amazon discussions, kindleboards,) and there isnt any difference - Amazon stands by their product so you can still return to Amazon a Kindle you buy at Target - etc -
but when I buy it thru Amazon, they register it to my account (so the books I have already in my cloud, I can download - all thru the computer)
but then my dh can view it - so it was fine for my DD Xmas present -
dh is getting his by another venue!! (and I will manually load the books - I have 32 free books with his name on them!) btw I use the free download Calibre - so its easy to sideload the books- using the usb port
