Is there any advantage or disadvantage to buying the Kindle Fire from Amazon as opposed to buying local at Best Buy or Target?
I do not need it before Christmas. My son has saved up his own money to buy it

Thanks for any info

Amazon doesn't charge sales tax in most states, so you save that money. And you get free shipping, so you don't have to leave the house or deal with crowds to buy it.

The disadvantage would be having to mail it back to Amazon if it doesn't work correctly or it malfunctions, vs just being able to walk into Target and exchange it.

well actually if you do have to return it to amazon, you call the Customer Service, they ship out the replacement Fire - and send you a mailer -

so you keep your Fire till the replacement comes - you send back the replacement, with Amazon paying for the return shipping - its really easy peasy...

I have asked this question on another boards (amazon discussions, kindleboards,) and there isnt any difference - Amazon stands by their product so you can still return to Amazon a Kindle you buy at Target - etc -

but when I buy it thru Amazon, they register it to my account (so the books I have already in my cloud, I can download - all thru the computer)

but then my dh can view it - so it was fine for my DD Xmas present -

dh is getting his by another venue!! (and I will manually load the books - I have 32 free books with his name on them!) btw I use the free download Calibre - so its easy to sideload the books- using the usb port
