Kindle fire reviews?

It has been almost a month since the holidays so I am wondering how the Kindle fire has been working out for everyone who got one.

DH was going to get me the regular $80 Kindle for xmas, but I kind of wanted the Fire. He gave me the money for what the regular Kindle would be and let me decide how to spend it.

I have been on Amazon a few times with the Fire in my shopping chart but keep going back to maybe just getting the regular. I am a bit worried about the Fire having a regular screen over the e-ink screen and wonder if my eyes will get tired if reading for a few hours on it.

I have a laptop, desktop, smartphone and wonder if I really need the Fire over the regular. It just seems like the Fire would be fun to have for DD and myself for plane trips and when picking up DD from schoo/activites.

For straight reading, i still love my regular kindle. OTOH, for all else, to keep with me, and to read when I have the time, I love my fire. They each have a place in my heart, lol. That probably doesn't help!

My kids got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and we absolutely LOVE it! I get to use it while the kiddos are at school. My DD likes to read books on it and play games and DS uses it mostly for the games. The apps/games shop is AWESOME and very inexpensive. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a second one sometime in the near future.

I love mine. I tell people its the best toy EVER!

So far I have mostly just been playing with it, using most of its functions. Love the aps. I stream a lot from netflix and hulu. I've downloaded tons of free books but havent had too much time to read them because I already had a stack of library books to finish. I love the ability to get on the web, check email, facebook etc. I had a little trouble with the keyboard at first but I got a stylus and now it is better.

I've used it everyday since Christmas and I cant say that about most Christmas presents.

I was having a hard time deciding on which Kindle to get also - in fact, it was only a few weeks ago.

DH and I went to actually look at them (at the time, I had my heart set on the 3G with Keyboard - $140 @ Amazon.com) and he made a beeline to the Fire.

I was teetering between the 3G for a week before I decided on it, but DH said that if I didn't get the Fire that I would regret it.

I ended up with the Fire and I LOVE IT!

DS (15) loves the Angry Birds app, and I read books on it all the time. The web browsing will work great, as I did not really want to keep lugging around my netbook on vacation.

I would honestly go for the Fire. Even with all of the other electronic "toys" you have, you would love it and find it very useful. Books (the main reason I got mine), apps/games (the reason DS wanted the fire), web browsing (no more taking the netbook to the airport!), and music!

I seriously recommend you look at them in person if you are able to and make a decision from there. DH was not even remotely interested in a Kindle, but even he was awestruck by the Fire.

(Now I am off to find a blackjack app/game to figure out all of the "doubling down" and "splitting" stuff before Vegas!!)

I bought 3 Kindle Fires for Christmas for 3 of my kids. They all LOVE THEM!! My husband has an Ipad and this is the closest thing to an Ipad I have ever seen in a tablet. This is only 7 inches instead of the Ipad being 10 inches and the Fire doesn't have GPS or Bluetooth but you really don't need that, IMO.

It has apps and games, the e-reader and TV shows and Movies. If you are an Amazon Prime member you get tens of thousands of FREE TV shows and Movies streaming on your device. As a Prime member you also get one FREE book rental (any book) every month.

It has good screen resolution and it is very easy to read on.

It is quick and the internet/browser works great.

I have a desktop and a laptop but I am thinking about getting a Kindle Fire too. After seeing how good the Kindle Fire is for just $199 there is no way I would spend $600 on an Ipad. No way. Now I know there are ppl out there who are die hard Apple fans and believe there is nothing that compares to an Ipad, but I disagree with them. I am an Apple fan. I have had the Iphone 3 and now the Iphone 4s, but I choose the Kindle Fire as my tablet of choice.

If you order it off Amazon it comes already registered to your Amazon account with your preferred method of payment. You have to have a form of payment on file because even when you download a free app it is considered a purchase of $0 and they send you a purchase notification email. But if you have ever ordered anything from Amazon you should already have an established account.

They are definitely worth the money. Also get the 2 year Square Trade warranty with it and it covers ANY ACCIDENTS drops or spills for 2 years so you can have it worry free knowing if anything goes wrong with it they will replace it up to 3 times in 2 years for just the cost of the warranty. But make sure you buy the FIRE warranty and not just the tablet generic warranty. The Fire has it's own warranty category.

I also love mine Amazon has a special free app every day and a Kindle Daily Deal (a book super cheap). I have so many (free) great apps for myself and DD that I have not had to spend any money on apps.

It is great for waiting for DD when she has activities (the other day I watched Bridesmaids while she had her skiing lesson ). I am already planning what to download for when we go down to WDW in April - almost as much fun as planning the trip itself!

DH and I already decided to get one for DD for her birthday in August - she has the LeapPad tablet but has not shown much interest in it. I think the LP is way too structured and does not have much content she likes.

I suggest getting both if you can manage it.

The prices have come down so much since I bought my first Kindle that it is actually only $20 more to own both a Fire and the basic Kindle than what I originally paid for just the Kindle2.

I use my Kindle2 for reading for long periods (>30 minutes). The Kindle Fire is for magazines, games, movies, music, web browsing, etc.

I also own an iPad and an iPhone and they all get used frequently...I don't believe you can have too many gadgets

Yes you can download movies as well as the streaming. However, keep in mind the fire only has 8GB of storage so you can only keep a small number on it at a time.

I have a website that shows you how to convert your DVDs into the mp4 format the Fire recognizes on my other computer. I will add it to this post once I get onto it.

I got the Kindle Touch for my birthday on Dec 8. On Dec 17, I ordered the Fire. I mainly wanted the fire for movies on our flight to Hawaii. I rented some Amazon movies and downloaded them in our hotel before the flight.

I mainly read on the touch but like the above poster I use the Fire for everything else. I always have the Touch with me though. If fits perfectly in my purse.

Thanks for all of the responses. I just ordered my very own Kindle Fire. If the screen bothers my eyes or I end up using it for reading more than I imagine I will look into getting a regular Kindle at some point.

Get an anti-glare screen shield it makes reading easier. Amazon sells a 2 pack for around $5. One of those makes reading a lot smoother.

I bought a thicker stylus, and you don't need to order off of Amazon.

And you will be dependent in a matter of days.

My wife and daughter both got Kindle Fires for Christmas and they both love them. Myself, I have a regular $79 kindle for just my reading.
