I have been looking to get a Kindle Fire and was looking on the Amazon website at the different books. I was looking under christian fiction, which I like to read a lot, and some of the books had a cost of 0, is there really no charge for these? Some of the others said 0 but with a Prime Amazon account which I know you have to pay yearly for. Are you realy able to download the others for free and keep them or am I missing something and there really is a charge somewhere? Sorry, really new to all this e-book stuff.

Thanks for your help. I really would like to get one but want to know the ins and outs before I do.

Hi there. With the Kindle, if you have a prime membership, you can borrow books from Amazon without any cost to you. What you would do is go on your Kindle, click on the menu to get to your books section. Then scroll down to the Kindle Lending Library. Search for your book and then click on the "borrow for free" and you can read it for free. Eventually you have to return the book but there aren't any late fees or due dates. The one catch is that you can only borrow one book at a time.

The books that already come up as 0.00 are usually the ones that pre-date 1910 or so (I can't recall the exact date). Due to copyright issues, books before that date are considered free, so you could build a decent classics library (Austen, Bronte, Dickens, etc.) for free! That's what I did.:goodvibes

Honestly, it's almost too easy to get books at Amazon (both free, lending and priced).

There's also a great website called Pixel Of Ink and they have daily book deals as well as free ones. I see quite a few faith-based books there that are free.

There's usually quite a few books each month in the Christian fiction genre that come up as free. Sometimes the books are older, but often newer stuff is there too. I've 'bought' hundreds of free books from Amazon for my Kindle and as long as the cost says 0.00 when I clicked the buy button, I've never been charged.

Amazon actually has quite a few free books...though usually just for a limited time (sometimes as limited as a couple of hours....sometimes several days). Pixel of Ink (mentioned previously) is fantastic. They gather a lot of the free books into one place & send out a daily email noting the new free ones. They are typically lesser known authors trying to get their books out there, but I've read some really good ones that I would have never picked up otherwise.

Since you said you are into Christian Fiction, check out inspiredreads.com It is ran by the same people who do Pixel of Ink, but it is specifically for Christian Fiction.

Since prices change all of the time, make sure to double check that they are still free before you click the button to buy, but if you see something you want that is showing as free, click it right away because it may not be free for long.

Enjoy your Kindle!!

Yes, there are a ton of religious-related stories for free on there. Good for you, not so much for me, as they don't always say that they are religious, and I don't choose to read those things.

But there are MANY! Including romances and mysteries...some have decent writing, some do not...

Check ereaderiq.com. The person who maintains it updates the list of free books daily. It has everything - I have downloaded a lot of good christian books from this site. You can subscribe and get the latest sent to you e-mail as well

You can also borrow free Kindle books from a lot of public libraries.
