what is the difference between the 2nd gen and the current one? Anyone know?

The screen resolution is supposed to be better on the 3rd G vs. 2nd G. People report they see it when the 2 versions are side by side, but when using a 2 G on it's own, it will be perfectly fine, and you would be more than happy with it.

I had the big Kindle DX, and it was stolen from me when I was returning from a trip to DL. (at Philadelphia airport).

I bought the 3G smaller Kindle immediately (I was in the middle of a good book, could not wait for the replacement to arrive!)

I would have bought the Woot offer, for the refurb 2G that is for sale today, great deal.

K3 has a better screen and is smaller. It hold more books (3500 compared to the K2's 1500) and has a longer battery life (1 month compared to 2 weeks). The K3 also comes in graphite, where as the K2 only comes in white. The K2 does not have wifi capability just the 3G connection.

That said, other than the screen resolution, I prefer my K2 over my daughter's K3.

Thanks!!! I have a Nook but can't resist this price. I need to do my own, personal, head to head comparison. Someone in my family will get the hand me down of the one I don't like
