Kindle 3, Nook or Nook Color?

I'm considering asking for this for Christmas, but I can't decide which one is the best.

What do you have and why do you love it?

I have the Kindle 3. The biggest advantage I can see is Amazon.com's superior customer service, as compared to B&N. It also uses electronic ink, as does the Nook - but not the Nook Color. Electronic ink is far superior for serious book reading... much easier on the eyes.

Do you know if there are rumblings that Kindle will ever have library lending capability like the Nook? I'm just not one to buy books because I don't read them over and over (and I'm cheap :lmao:), but the "borrowing" capability really appeals to me with the Nook, yet the Kindle gets better reviews for most everything else?

I just bought a Kindle. The lending capability of the Nook appealed to me, but after reviewing the list of e-books available to me in my area (plus the length of the waiting lists for these titles) I selected the Kindle. Amazon.com has lots of free books for download and I think this selection rotates. I read two freebies over the holiday weekend, but today one of them is no longer free - so check that list often!

I was worried I would miss the feel of a book, but the Kindle was easy for me to get used to. I do find it "slippery" and have asked for the cover with built in light for Christmas.

I am sure you will enjoy whichever one you choose.

Yes. There were news articles posted a month or so ago about the Kindle eventually supporting library rentals.

The e-ink is important to me. That was one drawback to the Nook Color.

I do think I'm leaning towards the Kindle, but wanted to hear what people had to say about each of them.

Thanks!! And I'd love to hear more.

I have a Nook because I like to get books from the library. I'm not muchof a book buyer. I love my Nook. I'm sure I would have loved a Kindle also though. I just do not think you can go wrong with either one.

I want the color because it is backlit. I am tired of messing with night lights, etc. to read in bed. I have been using my phone to read with no issues at all.

I have a Nook and I love it. I've not owned a Kindle. I would have been happy with both, and honestly I've checked book availability for both. ( I'll check Nook and if a book I want isn't available I'll often check Amazon ) Both have some books that the other doesn't have available. I bought Nook being very excited about the "Lend Me" feature but would caution that several of the books I own are not "lendable" and you can only lend each book once.

The only one *I* would scratch off my list is the Nook color. I don't read magazines or children's books on it. I read novels. Therefore there's no reason for me to spend an extra $100 for colored pages.

I just bought a Nook (3G+WiFi) over the weekend, and so far I love it! I kept going back and forth between the Kindle and Nook, and ultimately the ability to borrow library books on the Nook is what swayed me to the Nook. (I belong to a book club, and some of the books we've read are books I wouldn't want to spend money on.)

I think you can't go wrong with either a Kindle or Nook, just whichever one you prefer.

From my research, the battery life for a Nook (with WiFi turned off) is 10 days; for the Nook Color, it's 8 hours. I think a Nook Color is good if you intend to read magazines and maybe kids' books. But when I read a magazine, I like to rip out recipes and interesting articles; can't do that with an eReader.

So the regular 3G Wifi Nook you can't read in bed, without a light? Is that what you are saying? I really don't have a need for the color Nook, but am leaning toward the Nook (vs. the Kindle) because of the library access?

No, but that is one of the points of a dedicated e-reader - it is meant to look like a real page in a real book and doesn't cause the eyestrain that reading on a backlit reader can.

I love my Kindle 3. I bought a cover with the light and it is awesome!

I love my NOOK with it's library capability. My SIL has the NOOK color. I want one. (I think Santa is bringing me one) She'll buy a book and then lend it to me and then I return the favor, it's great. But it's true you can only lend them once.

I own both and IMO the Kindle is far superior to the Nook. The only thing the Nook has going for it is the library capabilities, everything else the Kindle wins hands down.

I hate reading on my Nook since they make everything more difficult. I swear they sat down and decided "The Kindle does this in so many steps so lets add two or three more steps to the Nook"

"Collections" on the Kindle are much better than "shelves" on the Nook. My Kindle's battery last 2 weeks (I have a K2) while my Nook's doesn't even last a week. The Nook's touch screen is a PITA; I don't know how many times I have had to touch the screen 4 or 5 times before it even responds to me.

Now that I know how to get Library books on my Kindle (:rolleyes1 ) I'm thinking of getting rid of the Nook altogether.

Another Kindle fan ... I have the DX 3G and a great piece of technology.

PS: They don't do well if you drop them into the lake. Tend to stay on that same page for the rest of your life. (The Hunger Games, so at least a good page) Amazon did have a great program where I was able to get replacement for about 1/2 price.

Love my non color Nook. I got it back when B & N was charging 99 for the wifi plus 3 g model (refurb). I've never had a Kindle so can't compare. My battery on my Nook lasts about 10 days, no problems.

I have the Nook, and I absolutely love it. I love the book selection as well as library access. I joined the Free Library of Philadelphia and that is working fantastic. I am currently reading one that I checked out from there.

The Nook color looks nice but I am not interested in the color screen and backlight for reading. I wanted the eink technology so it is easier on my eyes.

My sister loves her Nook as well. DS (13) has even asked for and will be getting a Nook for Christmas too.

I just got my daughter the nook color for Christmas- the first quarter of next year barnes and nobel is going to be bringing out a whole App store that you can buy and download apps on the nook color- can't wait!

Off topic but how long did it take you to get your card?

I mailed them a check 11/7 and the check was cashed at least a week ago if not more and I still haven't received anything in the mail.
