I love the "Kissing Hand". My DS's class read that in preschool and for the next couple years whenever he was leaving, we had to do the "kissing hand" and the "hugging hand" that he made up.
This thread is making me sad. My DD5 starts K on 8/30, and will ride the bus. At least it's just a 1/2 day program in their own K center. That should ease her into school.
Ok, you guys have me bawling my eyes out here ... my DD5 starts 1/2 day Kindergarten in 18 days. Yes, she's done pre-school for 2 years but somehow going to the Big K, is such a bigger milestone (and of course changes the way we vacation now!
DD5 told me she doesn't want to go to Kindergarten since she'd have to go school 5/week. She said she'll just do preschool again which is only 3 days a week.
It is a small country school so we don't have assistants or things like that. The kindergarten parents are asked to help out on the first day to make sure they get where they are going. Mine wanted to ride the bus instead of me taking her. There are 700 students for k-6th.
I will take too many pictures because they grow up way too fast.
that is not a small country school, we dont even have any where near that number in our school, and we have head start through 12th grade in the same building. ANd that is 5 towns put togeter to make up the district. We have numberous aides and teaching assisatant, and safety patrol, they all help the kindergarteners as do the older kids on there bus.
My DS5 left me on the sidewalk (we live right next door to the school), ran up to the door, yelling back over his shoulder for me to "have a good day, Mom!"
Principal said he was the most confident Kindergartener she has ever seen. His siblings are 21 and 13--he's been waiting for this for a long time!
DS will start official kindergarten on Tuesday next week (SOB!) but he went to practice kindergarten early in June. That was so tough! He is my one and only...we walked to the bus stop where he went for 2 mornings in a row. The first day he was very very shy around the 3 other kindergarteners at the bus stop. He wouldn't leave being behind me. Then the bus pulled up and he hopped right on without a care and followed the one other boy onto the bus and sat right next to him and BEAMED this huge smile to me out of the bus window. I captured it on film luckily and walked the whole way home literally sobbing....not looking forward to Tuesday....
I remember when he started preschool--I left in tears and drove home. When I got home I had a little pity-party for myself...I just couldn't help it, the house was SO quiet...I will miss my little guy...
