For the last 7 years I have placed my DS who is disabled on the school bus. I always know he gets where he is going because someone has to get him and his wheelchair off the bus. He can't tell you with words how his day was or what he needs only with his eyes. (which will tell you everything you need to know if you take the the time.)

Today I put my DD who is in kindergarten this year on a bus. She asked me to meet her at school to make sure she got where she was going. So like the rest of the crazy kindergarten moms and dads I was there. But where the school told me to be wasn't where the buses where. So I searched for what I figured would be a very scared little girl, only to find her with another lost kindergartner.

To which she looks at me and says "Mom Kindergartners don't get lost".

:lmao:

I was able to get her settled in her classroom and make it too the van before I needed a few tissues.

:) My DD started Kindergarten in the beginning of July... I hope your DD has a GREAT day! The first few days were weird with her gone... this is me now... :cheer2:

Awww... how cute. I'm choking back tears. That will be me 3 weeks from today as I take my son (one and only) to kindergarten for the first time.

Very cute. I still remember when my sister was in Kindergarten (1980s), they had the Kindergarteners wear name tags for the first week or so of school with their name, teacher's name, & bus number printed on it so they wouldn't get lost. That would NEVER happen nowadays but the pictures of my sis going to school with her name tag pinned to her dress are adorable.

my daughter has bus tags. It goes on their backpack and it has her name, teachers name, bus number and that she is a pick up in the afternoon...

I have been proven wrong. I guess they just don't do it where I live, since most kids don't even ride school buses.

Where I live, there are teaching assistants that meet the buses and walk all the kindergartners to class. Then at the end of the day, all of kids who take buses are walked from their classes out to the bus area. I don't know what grade they stop doing this, but they did it for my oldest in 1st grade.

I've never heard of parents going. The K teachers pick them up right from the bus and they walk to the classroom together. The first grade classes are right inside the door, so it would be hard for them to get lost.

They also do have bus tags to make sure they are on the right bus. There are 5th graders that are in charge of taking them there.

Awwww.. I agree. This is so cute. Seemed like just yesterday that my kids were in kindergarten. Now I will be :sad1: when my baby boy goes off to college in a few weeks and DD moves to Florida. I never thought it would happen but I now fully admit to Empty Nest Syndrome setting in.

Take tons of pictures of these kindergartners and treasure every moment!

Tomorrow is my DS's first day of kindergarten. On the first day, kindergarten parents can (and are in a way encouraged) walk their child to class. The kindergarten classes are at the back of a convoluted school that had multiple additions over 40 years. For bus riders, during the first couple of weeks, the assistants will meet the buses coming in and point the kids in the right direction. After that the safety patrols will help them.

It is a small country school so we don't have assistants or things like that. The kindergarten parents are asked to help out on the first day to make sure they get where they are going. Mine wanted to ride the bus instead of me taking her. There are 700 students for k-6th.

I will take too many pictures because they grow up way too fast.

DD starts 2 weeks from yesterday. I have already cried about it and now I have to move on and make sure is ready to go. Since DH and I both teach in the district and have to be at school an hour before she does, the sitter is putting her on the bus and I hope taking lots of pictures and videos. This is the hardest thing have I have done so far with being a mother.

What a cute story! My youngest child (DD) is leaving for college on Thursday. She has been spending every night with her high school friends because she is going to college and will have to make new friends and needs all the time she can have with her old ones because she won't have much time for them later because of her new friends. Gotta love how kids think.

My youngest starts kindergarten Monday - and my oldest starts her senior year! This is an exciting year for our household!

My oldest's 1st day of kindergarten, I drove her there, walked her in, and then stayed in the room taking pictures until she turned to me and said, "You can go to work now, Mommy." I CRIED.

Okay my youngest starts all day kindergarten on Wednesday. They have a few scattered teachers outside directing kids to classrooms but it is bedlam and I am freaking out because of it. Also when her older big sister started school 2 years ago no one noticed she did not get a lunch at lunchtime and so she sat without eating. UGH. I am on pins and needles for the first day to happen.

My son had his first day of Kindergarten today. As we were driving, he asked me if I was going to stay in his classroom all day? - I said, no, school is just for kids - the only adults allowed are the teachers. He then asked me, are you going to come into my class and talk to the teacher then? - I said, no, the teacher doesn't want parents to come in today. Then he says, I have an idea, why don't you go undercover and stay in the car all day?:lmao: What a little sweetheart.

When I picked him up at the end of the day, he told me the teacher is not very nice, she told me to be quiet when I tried to talk. She said we must have the same rule at home but we don't have that rule do we mom?:lmao: My son, the little chatterbox, will have many moments of being told not to talk.:rotfl:

He hardly ate any of his lunch today. I think that he picked the hot dog pieces out of his Mac'n Cheese, he ate his carrot sticks, one cookie and half of his grapes. He was starving when I picked him up and thirsty. His thermos of water and his Apple Juice bag were completely full so I don't think that he drank anything all day. Hopefully, his lunches will go better as the year progresses.:confused3

You took the words out of my mouth.

My one and only daughter started yesterday. Parents are allowed to walk them to their class room on the first day. It was just a half day so at noon we all waited outside the school doors for them to depart. She did fine me leaving her there at her desk, I couldn't speak to anyone because the tears were flowing. Today is her first full day and she gets to ride the daycare bus. They will drop them off at the door with a teachers assistant until time to go to their class room. Then take them to the school doors where she will need to find the daycare bus. Just seems like so much responsibility for a 5 year old. She clearly isn't worried about it as much as I am. Even just typing about it brings tears to my eyes!

For all of you Kindergarten mom's....I recommend the book called "The Kissing Hand". My DD's K teacher read it to us at orientation and I went out and bought it that day. Her teacher would meet the kids at the door and make sure they were all picked up by the right person in the afternoon. Seems like Kindergarten was just yesterday, but my Kindergartner just started high school this year! That is really sad!!!
