a bit of backstory..

i was married when i was young to a man who turned out to have major psychotic issues, and for the best of all involved in our relationship, we split. this kinda scarred me in ways, but i managed to get over most of these issues, and i met a man who i adore (Carlo -- you guys met him in my previous TR) and we've been together for the last 5 years now.

he's decided he wants to propose to me at some point in the near future -- he told me upfront that he's planning on asking so that i have time to get used to the idea.... he asked me what would make it special, and i said i would love it if it happened on our upcoming trip because we both love disney and probably can't afford a Disney wedding.. but we can definitely afford a disney proposal. :rotfl: we're practical like that.

so now he's out there, scouring the nets, looking for advice and inspiration to make this a magical surprise...i mean, i'll know it's coming at some time, but not when or how or in what way this magical moment is going to happen...

and i wanted to ask... would you guys mind helping him if he comes on here? give him some inspiration, some advice, some hints and tips on what you find magical or romantic or wonderful about a disney stay or a disney cruise... or maybe my suprise proposal will be that it has nothing to do with disney.. maybe it happens before we even leave on the trip.. i don't know... but can you help him out with ideas? he doesn't have friends who have been to disney, and you guys are the most knowledgeable disney fans i know :)

Oh my goodness, this is SO exciting! I'm wanting to say congratulations but he hasn't technically asked the question yet.

Nobody is going to mind if he comes on here to throw ideas round, gosh, we all love throwing ideas around (well I'm generalising here, but if anybody doesn't like it, well they can just not read or respond to him I suppose :lmao:).

My one question is.... how is he going to come on here and ask questions, throw ideas around to plan his surprise without you seeing? :rotfl: Are you going to promise not to supersnoop on his threads? :rotfl2: Because I can tell you now, if I knew my DH (or future DH) was planning a surprise for me, I would snoop, I would be a supersnoop :rotfl2:

This is such fun exciting news! Congratulations on your possible upcoming surprise proposal :yay:

lmao. he's told me that if he comes on the disboards, he's not telling me his identity for one, and that he'll put the title of the post as 'alicia - do not look' or something similar, lol. or he could just reply to this thread, and i'll 'unfollow'.

lol. i am tempted to cheat. but then, i don't want to cheat myself out of a surprise. and this is important to him that it be a surprise. so i'll behave myself :rolleyes1

i realise that it's hugely unconventional for the guy to kinda let the girl know what he wants to do ahead of time, but we had issues and questions and visions of our future together that we wanted to discuss in depth, before we got to the question of 'will you??'

i already know that my guy is the one. he's special and wonderful and frustrating and annoying and my life would be infinitely worse without him in it.

so i told him i'd throw the idea out to the DISers on the forums and i've given him our Dreams Unlimited TA's contact details in case he needs those, and the rest is totally up to him. lol. so he might put it out here on the forums, or he might just take any stories/hints/tips etc that you might reply to this with and create his own version... i don't know :scared1:

i'm kinda excited, kinda nervous, kinda scared... and this could all be potentially 7 or so months away... sheesh. i'm gonna die of suspense.

:lovestruc

I have an few ideas re proposal

1. get him to propose while the EPCOT fire works are going , when your waiting for the monorail at TTC.....the view is awesome, just move to the end of the platform, you get the best view there.....
and you can have the cast members take photos......ok, I just love the monorail.

2. on Poly beach during wishes, with cocktails in hand....

3. While in line for It's a small world, no seriously....:rotfl:

4.At Magic Kingdom opening one morning, just after mickey opens the park...

:love:My DH proposed while I was in the bath after a long, hot, dirty afternoon shift, not my best time ...it was at midnight on a thursday, he had just been out with my mother buying the ring...ok not too romantic, but Definitely memorable...23 years later, I still laugh about it ...

so really, wherever he does it, and if he's "the one" it will be perfect......

Thats like the waiter at the restaurant who brings over the plates holding a cloth, puts it down and says "the plates very hot, don't touch it", so of course you touch it to see just how hot it is and sure enough, yell out "oh shivers, that's hot" as your finger singes and you have to put it in a glass of iced water :rotfl2:

Anyway it's all very exciting and whatever way he pops on here to chat is awesome. I'm so looking forward to following the  thread.

awww, karen... that's fabulous!!! i love your story. it says such great things that he couldn't even wait for you to finish your bath :)

my dad proposed to my mum the day they crashed their car over a cliff. they were young and it was an old car & the brake jammed when they were turning a sharp corner on a mountain. my dad is a fabulous driver, but the car spun out over the cliff... my dad is not very romantic at all -- he's gruff and practical and loving but he has difficulty showing it... he carried her all the way up the side of the cliff, even though she only had a scrape on her knee and she was like... this guy is the one. sometimes, just for the heck of it, he'll go out to the garden and hand pick her roses so that they are the first thing she sees when she wakes up in the morning. and he doesn't cook. but sometimes he'll cook her breakfast just because he wants to do something special. and every time i see him going out of his way to do something small and simple and meaningful like that, i go awwwwww.

unfortunately... we'll be on the fantasy cruise then we're going to disneyland, not disneyworld. our wdw trip isn't until 2013 and i'm hoping we're not going to wait that long... :confused3

i so totally am that girl. yes i am. i can admit that to myself and all you lovely DISers. i am totally a snooper.

tell me not to look, i'll look. tell me not to touch, i'll touch. tell me you've hidden the presents in the house, i'll search the whole stinking house.

we regularly watch tv shows together when we have some downtime together. we just discovered game of thrones... so we watched eps 1 & 2 together. and that was fun. but i was home sick on tues & wed last week, and it was just sitting there. so i went ahead and watched eps 3 & 4 and then 5 & 6. i'm a bad girlfriend. when i 'fessed up, he just rolled his eyes at me. he loves me even though he knows i have my self-control issues :rotfl:

but... i want to do this for him and give him this surprise. so that for once... and probably this will be the only time in my whole life... i don't snoop.

just .. this ... one ... time.

How exciting. I have a good idea. I saw a video of someone proposing at WDW and it was so sweet. But you may need to be a fan of the movie.

I won't post it here. Unless you want me to :lmao:

We went to WDW for our Honeymoon. It was awesome!!

ETA: Sorry just read your post about WDW. But this will still work on the cruise or DL.

ok, up to speed now

what about a proposal just before boarding the plane in Sydney..that would guarantee the best service ever..and maybe even an upgrade

he could use the mic, do the do then have everyone sing "happy engagement to you" followed by hosties weeping (and thats just the guys) .....think, 14 hrs of unlimited champagne and all your seat buddies being overly nice to you. You may even get to pre board and have your carry on in the overhead above you, rather than 20 rows back........

yep, sounds like a plan:thumbsup2 a cunning, cunning plan

you guys can all reply with ideas, hints, tips etc.

i showed this post to carlo and he just laughed and started making notes.

so i don't know what these super secret notes are, but he's clearly interested in some of the suggestions.

DisneyGirl -- feel free to post your link, and karen -- hrmm. that is a cunning plan :)

so far he's been reading over my shoulder all of these posts :)

SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

I love proposals and weddings almost as much as I love Disney. Tell him to get his butt over here so we can start throwing around ideas :cool1:

If you're flying QANTAS or an A380 it may just be worth doing the proposal before the flight :scratchin

:lmao:

told you it was a cunning plan.....win win for both of you
he gets the girl of his dreams, and you get to fly at the pointy end...

see, my cunning plans do work:rotfl:

:yay:that is so sweet that he wants to surprise you like that.:yay:
Maybe he could just surprise you with the whole wedding on the cruise or in DL your already there.

WAmum -- lol. he'd never get that kind of expense past me... i do all the financial stuff and budgeting for the household :) lol. but it is a sweet idea.

he was on here last night reading all your posts and laughing and taking notes. he is such a sweetie.

karen -- every time you say a cunning plan, i imagine baldrick from blackadder going 'i have a cunning plan, my lord. a cunning plan'. lol. one of my favourite lines from blackadder :)

he plans to sign up soon enough and will post. i've told him to hop to it as per your instructions :rotfl: so expect to see him online in the next few days :)

You can always have more than one proposal...one for the benefit of the airline and an upgrade as per Karen's cunning plan and then your own extra special one at Disney :)

so glad you approve of "the cunningness of my devious cunning"...:thumbsup2

So he can do a practice run before you board at SYD, another on the first night on the cruise in the main dining room, then another in front of guest services at DL.....

maximum impact....minimal cost

and when he gets here under the dis board name of "Fresh-meat"......we can then all cry out together...."hey girls.....fresh meat!"...ahh, the possibilities of mind messing....hehehehehehehehehe..

My DH proposed to me at Disneyland, so I think it's the BEST idea :cool1:

I got proposed to in the Blue Bayou restaurant, which I think is one of the most romantic places at Disneyland. The best part was that I didn't expect it because my DH had never been to Disney before, but he had obviously been paying attention to everything I had said while planning. He said he was tossing up between there and the Snow White Wishing Well/grotto next to the castle and the courtyard behind the then Disney Gallery - now the Dream Suite. He went with the Blue Bayou because he wanted it a bit more private - my DH is painfully shy.

Karen has got the right idea though, make sure you tell EVERYBODY that you are newly engaged, I wish we had done it more. We only told the tour guide on our Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour and he arranged for a little gift for us. I wish we'd told the world, but as I mentioned DH is just too shy.
