Does anyone know why they changed when "Holidays at the park" ends from January 4th to January 2nd? This is pretty upsetting because I go every year for my birthday, which is on January 3rd, and since it used to end on the 4th everything was still open. Haunted Mansion is one of my favorite rides and it sucks that its going to be closed for 2 out of the 3 days I'll be at the park :(

I believe that they always end the holiday season the first Monday after NYs. NYD is on Sat this year. So the 3rd is Monday. Thats too bad. :sad2:

PinkBudgie is 100% right. Maybe you didn't realize how Disneyland decides on when to end the season because you were fortunate enough to be there when the season was still happening in the past. But they don't go by the specific date - meaning they don't say, "We're going to end the season on January 4th of every year." They base it on the days of the week. They always end the holiday season immediately after the first Sunday in January. It just so happens that in 2011 that Sunday will be January 2nd, and that will be the last full day of the holiday offerings. Other years that Sunday might fall on 1/3 or 1/4 or even later than that.

They handle the end of their Summer and Halloween seasons the exact same way - the last all-inclusive days are always Sundays. This year Halloween Time ended on 10/31 (a Sunday) and Summer ended on August 29 (a Sunday).

Stay tuned to threads here on the DIS because we always discuss the season start and end dates for Halloween and Christmas time!:goodvibes

Take heart, they can't possibly get all of the decorations down in one night, so you still may be able to enjoy the decorations, if not the parade and fireworks.

While true that everything can't come down in one night, they can get a lot taken down. It takes longer to put everything up than it does to take it down. It's not going to be the full season's array of offerings. I wouldn't want anyone to count on seeing the holiday fireworks or Christmas Fantasy Parade. If that happens, it's a bonus. But I wouldn't want anyone to think that if they go to DLR on 1/3 or 1/4 they will see that stuff because the end of the season is 1/2/11...and there is a reason why there is a specific end date - the seasonal offerings end. Something has to end after that date or they would just extend the season.

The one thing that there is a really good chance of seeing past 1/2/11 is IASW Holiday. They left it up longer in January of this year so it would not be down at the same time that Haunted Mansion Holiday was down while the overlay was uninstalled. Since HMH goes up in September, it made sense to close that in January and keep IASWH open a bit longer. So that could happen again - although it's not guaranteed, so you never know.

I didn't mean to imply that the holiday fireworks or parade would still be showing. I just meant that you can still enjoy some of the decorations.

We were this year for the "changing" of the seasons and yes, almost everything was down overnight. Sorry you will miss out OP but Sherry is right, the holiday season always ends the Sunday after New Years at DLR.

So next year, with January 1 on a Sunday, does this mean the holdiays will be over on January 2 or on January 9? I saw that the GCV charts for 2012 include January 1-8 in Premier Season, so maybe the latter. --- Suzanne

You mean in 2012, right? Next year (2011), January 1 is on Saturday.

If I recall, 2012 is a Leap Year (isn't it?), so January 1 should be on Monday. I think the season will last until the Sunday following that - that is my guess. So in 2012, it should probably extend through January 7th (which should be a Sunday, if 2012 is Leap Year) and be done by Monday, January 8th. Again, it's only a guess and I could be totally wrong, but it's probably what will happen.

IASW Holiday isn't supposed to close until Jan. 18 to remove the holiday overlay per MousePlanet's weekly updates.

We really won't know until DL announces the dates next year. That would be cool if they did extend it through that first week of January. Our school will have 3 weeks off for Xmas next year...

2012 Leap Year isn't until AFTER January, so Suzanne is right on NY Day being on a Sunday.

Hmmm....Well, since it's AFTER, then when will the season end?

I'm inclined to think that in 2012, it still might extend through the following weekend (Sunday, 1/8), but who knows?

January 1 2011 - Saturday (end of Holiday 1/2/11)
January 1 2012 - Sunday (guess end of holiday 1/2/12, could be 1/8/12)
January 1 2013 - Tuesday (due to leap year in 2012) (guess end of Holiday 1/6/13)
