My (now) dh lived directly across the street from me for quite some time before we met and even then we did not know because we met through a mutual friend. It was not until out first date and he inquired about my address to pick me up that we realized we lived right across the street from each other.:goodvibes
Well today...and yes I am embarrassed to admit this because I did not catch on sooner but I have been singing the praises of Dreams Unlimted and unknowingly found out that my TA is a DIS board moderator! Talk about stunned! :faint:

I am adopted, and when I met my birth mother about 10 years ago (I was 32) I found out that she and my birth father met and conceived me in Georgetown where her sister and his uncle (who were married) lived. I also found out that my older half sister grew up in Georgetown. Guess where my adoptive parents moved with me when I was a year old and where I lived until I got married at 19???? You guessed it - GEORGETOWN. I always wondered why I had such a strong connection to GTown and when I heard that I began life there and that my sister lived a few blocks away from me the whole time we were growing up that just floored me. Sadly my relationship with my birth mother didn't work out and I have yet to meet my older half sister (Tammy) because I don't know her married name and can't find her. We plan to move back to GTown in a few years after 23 years of living in Mississauga - so who knows - if she's still living there maybe....... :wizard:

THAT is amazing!

Both my MIL and FIL were born in Italy but they met here in Canada when they came over in their 20's.

Turns out that they lived across the street from one another in Italy for over 20 years, yet never met. They both end up moving to another country, and somehow meet here and fall in love.

If that's not fate, I don't know what is. :)

Isn't that amazing how things happen? That truly is fate. They were meant to be together!

What a great thread. I have a feeling this will be the one I check every time I'm online just to hear more of these amazing stories. Thanks drag n' fly. :thumbsup2

What an awesome thread.
My husband and I grew up in the same neighbourhood, but did not know each other until we were older. It turns out we had/have lots of childhood friends in common.
A few years ago new neighbours moved in next door, DH asked me to come and say hello, it turned out it was a guy my brother and I went to school with, he had married another schoolmates sister, and I know both of the families.
My husband said he felt like he was getting involved with the Irish Mafia
It is so neat to find out these things.

The Irish Mafia thing is :lmao:

My neighbor was so excited to have me meet her daughter and granddaughter who had come for a visit from Alberta. I was outside working in the yard when they all strolled over to meet me. I took one look at her daughter and couldn't believe it....it was my second cousin's wife. It was just one of those bizarre moments. Of course we both hugged and screamed and scared the poor little one. It's definitely a small world sometimes!

Last summer I went to London, England. I was crossing a busy street when I look up and see my brother-in-law. He was there on business and neither of us had any idea the other was there.

I like this thread it has nice stories! Any new ones?

Well my sister-in-law once called a wrong number (she got the area code wrong so it was a wrong number far,far away from where she meant to call) and got her cousin's husband instead of who she was calling! She had no idea what his work number was at the time.

I have 3 stories:

My mother in law immigrated to Canada when she was 3 from scotland. About 16 years later she meets this guy who also immigrated from scotland at a mutual friends party. However he had just came from scotland a few weeks before the party. Entranced by him they start talking, eventually start dating. When he comes home to meet her parents, they look straight at him and say are you a Mc...." Why yes yes he is. They ask him if he knows Mary and Joseph ( yes that was their names) Yes they are his parent. Seems in Scotland they were next door neighbours and his older sister would babysit my mother inlaw. They ended up getting married and having my DH! oh and my BIL too

Ok, now on my side of the family. My mom has 10000000000 trazillion 1st cousins, who all have had kids who know are at well the same age as me ( early 30's to late 20's) and are all getting married. This one cousin of mine was getting married. My mom and her bf go to the wedding. On the grooms side is my father, her ex husband! Seems that my cousin married one of my dad's cousins. Needless to say um my parents dont get along, they luckily were not seated together. The mother of the bride even called my mom the next day to appologize that she didnt even know. My mom just laughed and said its a small world..

Last one:

My bestfriends dad is a VP for a steelmaking company that makes parts for something.. ( I have no clue other than they make something) He comes to my son's baptism and the reception after is at my Aunts house. He notices some pictures of my Aunts kids and her husband but doesnt really say anything. Its also mayhem with 30 people in a house after a baptism. Now my one cousin couldnt go because he was at work and my Aunts husband was also at work. Seems that they all work together at the same place and they all do stuff together all the time and never knew they had me in common.

After my maternal grandfather died in 1980 there were many rumours that he fathered a son in England during WWII. [we found his service papers with the name of a son, Philip, and a wife we didn't know about].

My mother tried several avenues to find her 'supposed' brother. Mom is an only child so it was very important to her to locate any sibs. However, she wasn't even sure he existed.

In 2003, my dad died. Cousins and uncles on my dad's side of the family researched our family tree back 300 years!

I felt bad for my mom....she didn't have any family other than her children.

So in 2003, after dad died, I Googled "Garside Family Tree" and my first hit found my mother's brother in London, England!

He was very ill, but my mother and he bonded. He died several weeks later.

We stay in touch with his wife Lynda.

Now my mother has a Family Tree!

Blessings & Love, Sandra

About 25-30 years ago, my late Uncle George was sitting in a bar in Texas. [just about all my Uncle George's stories start with, "I was sitting in a bar in Texas.....'"]. Uncle George was a great friendly character. While sitting at the bar, he got talking to another bar patron. As they swapped drunken fishing stories, the patron said he was writing a book about Texas and he wanted to write in a character for my Uncle George. Well....George was used to drunk bar stories, so he just laughed it off and ordered another!

Years later, George repeated the story to my Uncle Bill. Bill said, "What was the fella's name."

George said, "I think it was Michener or something like that."

Surprised Bill shouted, "JAMES MICHENER?!?!"

"Yep, that's the fella's name." George replied.

My Uncle George got drunk with the famous James A. Michener as he was researching his 1985 epic novel TEXAS!

It's been years since I read the book, but Uncle George is in there!

Blessings, Sandra
