Kind of Complicated Waitlist Question - VGC

So I have a standard Cash reservation for a partner hotel at Disneyland 11/4 - 11/10 that I have paid the deposit on. I have waitlisted a studio at VGC (all days had to be waitlisted) The waitlist is set to expire 31 days before the vacation starts (which would have the waitlist expiring 10/4). My banking deadline is 9/30.

Anyone have any idea how this works? If the waitlist doesn't come through I want to bank my points and keep my cash reservation. However, I need to pay the reservation 45 days before the trip which would be before the waitlist comes through. Also the banking deadline is before the waitlist expires... I'm just not sure what the "order of operations" is here.

I'm thinking that since I had to waitlist all the days of the reservation it isn't likely to come through and therefore I should call member services at the end of september if I haven't heard anything and explain that I want to cancel the waitlist and bank the points. Does that seem right?

You can cancel the waitlist and bank your points online; no need to call. You can always bank your points and keep the waitlist open with instructions to borrow points if it comes through.

Why do you have to pay the reservation 45 days in advance? I know that's a rule for packages, but not room-only reservations. At least not at WDW; maybe it's different at Disneyland? What's the cancellation policy after 45 days? I think this would be your constraint; at 45 days you need to cancel your waitlist and bank your points once you can no longer cancel your cash reservation.
