HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!
First - a mom update...it looks like she will be transported to Jefferson (in Philly) tomorrow. My dad had a long talk with her primary physician and they've decided that is the best thing for her at this point. The specialists around here can't seem to figure her pain out...so it's time to move on. I'm very happy that she is going to what I feel is a better place for care, but it's going to be hard on me since I won't be able to just hop in the car after work & pop in to see her. Philly is a good 1 hour ride each way.
Second - I actually DID run the 4 mile race today. I went into it planning on walk/running it with my friend since he hasn't trained at all for it and I hadn't run in almost 2 weeks. As you probably know...it was HOT today. Not sure of the temp, but I'd guess somewhere in the 90's by 9am. The race started at 9:15, and there were a LOT of people there. This being my first race, I had no idea what to do, but my friend Michael thought we should start in the back section since we knew we weren't in it to win it. We ran until about 1.5 miles in (and up the biggest BFH I've ever seen) and then walked for about 5 minutes. Then we ran the rest of the way. We were definitely going at a much slower pace than I was used to, but it was actually difficult to breathe because of the heat. I did stop once more at about 3.8 miles because I felt like I was going to pass out. It was really frustrating because I could see the finish line, but I figured it was better to walk a little bit & grab a cup of water than to pass out cold in the street and not finish!

I drank a couple sips of the water and then poured the rest over my head and then started running again. I definitely picked up the pace at that point with all of the people lined up (for the parade) cheering us on. I kind of wanted to catch up to Michael too, but he had just gotten too far ahead. I ended up finishing in 48.50. Yes, that's not a fast time, but holy cow...I actually finished it AND I ran most of it!

According to the board there were over 500 people in the race. I think I finished #488

.
Well, I'm going to bed and I'm sure my legs are gonna be hurting tomorrow!
