Kimono at Epcot?

Hi! I was hoping people could help me out with this
Ever since I read that someone purchased a Kimono in Epcot, I've had this desire to get one. I've never wanted a kimono before, but it just sounds too cool!
The problem I'm having, however...is understanding exactly why I have this desire. I mean, can't I just buy a kimono anywhere, and have it be cheaper than what it would be at Epcot? Or are the Epcot kimonos really that much better and worth the extra dollars!?
And on that note: how much are the kimonos, or at least a price range? I was thinking I read 50-70 dollars. Are they 100% silk?
Do I REALLY need a kimono from Epcot!?

From what I recall there are many styles and prices of Kimonos, long and short lengths, different fabrics, beautiful designs. You might find one in your price range. They really are quite lovely.
They also sell oriental clothing on the other side of the World Showcase in China. Different styles and some with pants. All very cute!

I think I would want a long 100% silk one. I'm just curious if they're the same thing that I could get elsewhere, but for cheaper
I saw that they sold some in China, but for some reason I didn't want those. I don't remember if I read that they were heavier fabric or what not, but I remember thinking the Japan ones sounded better!
Oh and really looking for a price range, because if they're like $200 or something, I won't be buying one

I remember them starting at $48 (and they were beautiful) and the price jumping quickly up into the hundreds from there. Tempting...

When I was there a guy was buying one, and it was part of an elaborate plan to propose to his girlfriend. Sweet.

100% silk is probably going to be in the upper price range. Also silk can be so hard to care for. We've had several of the poly blend kimonos and they wore well and felt wonderful on the body.......very very nice fabrics.

Last time we were at Epcot I saw this really cute little girl having a kimono fitted - I asked her parents if I could take a picture and they were fine with it. Just wanted to share the pic

My dad bought my DD a kimono from the Japan pavilion. Everything there is actually from Japan and very well made. The one that she is wearing is the poly material (satin), the silk ones will be VERY expensive and much more delicate. The poly ones are much easier to care for and I think this one is even machine washable!
Darn - can't get the picture of her put in here - my pics are on Walgreen's and the originals are on another PC.

Hrm I didn't know about the poly material. I wnated silk because I wanted something soft and smooth feeling, instead of pajama feeling like cotton would be!
That girl looks sooo cute! I didn'tknow you had to get them fitted, though.

Hi! I got back a couple months ago I found these polyester type of Kimonos, very light and pretty for about $80.00. They had a silk one for a couple hundred, but I actually prefered the look and feel of the cheaper.
Then I went to China, and saw their robes and almost wanted to return the Kimono! They had an awesome red one with a black dragon on it (I love red, and dragons) and that was around $100.00.
I would suggest going to both places; I'm happy with my purchase, but you'll definitely want to check out Japan and China before making a decision!

Full length and a shorter one.

We got a full-length one for my daughter last year. It was a poly blend and cost around $57. Next trip we're going to get the Obi to go with it. It's very pretty, and should make a great costume for Halloween, if nothing else.

I bought kimonos for myself and my fiance last year. His is a cotton-like material (not sure if it is a blend), black with gold and features tigers and dragons. I went with the shorter kimono for him as the longer one seems overly long (probably good for someone over 6 ft.). For myself I chose the satin full length kimono is a lovely sea green. It has an ocean inspired pattern with waves and mountains and comes with a matching belt. I was going to spring for an obi but it didn't feel practical. I love the kimono and wear it as a robe around the house. As for prices, I believe his was arond $50 and mine was around $70. I felt a little sticker shocked but it was worth it. The shop in Japan is just dangerous between the jewelry, the kimono and the housewares. I have probably spent enough there to have taken a flight to Tokyo!

Had the same idea as I did. It's amazing how one little idea or thought makes such a huge impact on some of us. Now I MUST be a Geisha on Halloween next and you can bet I'll be picking up a Kimono in Decmeber!

You also want to take into account the up keep of the kimono. My Grandmother-inlaw made me and Kendra each a kimono and they have to be stored and cleaned specially from everything else. But the ones at Epcot are very nice. Her other Grandmother came to Epcot with us one year and approved of them LOL.

My 18 y/o DD bought one last year and wore it to her Prom!

Everyone thought it looked very nice , she did also get the socks.

We spent about $100, we could of spent more but this one was very nice.

Polyester does feel like silk.It's not like cotton at all. The silk is beautiful but you can't wah it and since it's very delicate even the dry cleaners can ruin a nice silk kimono.
Like others have stated,I'm also going to get one this trip silk or polyester-whichever has the prettiest pattern!!!
