I was at EPCOT today for DH's bday and we stopped by the KP areas and were told it was opened. DH wanted to try it and we were told that today is the first day of a soft opening so we had to let them know if there was bugs. There are 5 areas you can go to Innoventions West and East, Norway, Italy and the International Gateway to get your time pass.

First you swipe you park ticket and a time and country/area will come out for you to go. When that time comes around you go to the designated area and they give you a Kimmunicator which is a cell phone. They activate then you listen to what Wade has to say with the tutorial. He then sends you off to a country in our case it was Japan. Your mission is to help Team Possible fight the bad guys but going on sort of a scavenger hunt around Japan (or whatever country they send you to). It was fun to go around and find things/items then activate them (make them move) with the communicator. After we were done we were to find a designated drop box that Wade told us to find. This is where you drop the phone off. It was like a secret compartment. Then you go on your merry way so you don't have to go back and give the phone back just drop it in the drop box.

All and all I thought it was excellent DH and I had a ball. People around us were amazed at what we were doing and we told them were to go if they wanted to try. I would suggest this to try atleast once. We were told that they official opening date if everything goes well is January 29th. Since it is in soft opening it could close or not even be open. They are still testing but everything went smooth with us.

Cool. That's one thing my kids cannot wait to try. Thanks for the info!

My nephew wants to do this so bad. I'll make sure we check to see if we can do a soft opening. Fingers crossed!

as part of the CP. She says it's very cool and that guests will love it. So if you go between now and May 15, be sure to look for Brooke from Concordia College and say hello for me!

I'd also be interested in other reports as people try this out.

Thanks!

I am so excited about this as we will be in Epcot twice the last week of the month....

I see that they have scheduled the Passholder Preview for Feb 26 - March 1.

I hope to try it then! :)

The OP said that she was told the official opening date was Jan 29. I thought that Passholder previews were before an official opening. So does this mean the official opening won't be until some time in March after the passholder preview? :confused3

Fargoman2, does your dtr know the official opening date? Also, if it is open when we will be there (last week of Feb), I know both my children and all 5 nieces and nephews will want to do this. So if they each put in their ticket, do they each get a different assignment, at a different time, in a different country? How will that work?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

My kids are so excited about this. What age do you think it is geared for?

They are having a DVC member 'pilot' as well:

Disney Vacation Club Members may embark on missions available Jan. 23-25 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. (Missions begin every 15 minutes.) Missions are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Members and their Guests will begin their missions by reporting to the Team Possible Recruitment Center located on the bridge leading from Future World to World Showcase at Epcot. Members must present their Member ID card or their Key to the World card displaying a Member designation.

We happen to be going at that time and will DEFINATELY be checking it out! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :thumbsup2

Does anyone know what ages this is geared towards? Will my DDs (4&6) be able to do this? We are going the second week in February and they are big Kim Possible fans so we are really excited to try it out. Also do you know how long the whole process will take?

From the posters and the footage on the planning DVD I got the impression that they're gearing it to tweens and older. On the other hand I don't think they'd stop parents from helping out younger kids, would they?

Thanks so much for the great update! We are leaving tomorrow and I know my kids will absolutely love it if they can get a chance to play!

I don't know anything about Kim Possible except that I am not interested in it - we don't have children and I know I won't be interested in doing the communicator thing. Will this replace anything in Epcot? I know it involves a handheld device, but does it have it's own area as part of the show? I know it's great for kids but hope it doesn't wind up replacing something I love!

The February 26 - March 1 dates aren't for Passholder previews. They're "guaranteed reservation" dates, meaning that Passholders who pre-register on the AP site are guaranteed a chance to play the game during that time. The Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure is still scheduled to officially open on January 28. :)

Thanks Brian_WDW74 for that info. :thumbsup2 We have really been looking forward to this and want the chance to be able to do this in Feb when we go.

Depending on how many people can participate at a time, this sounds like a great way for Disney to control the flow of traffic in World Showcase.

Let's say the shops in a particular country have not been particularly busy that day; Disney could just send more people to that country.

We got our 2009 Vacation Planning DVD yesterday. There was a snippet on there about this attraction and DH and I think it looks neat! We don't have any children yet either, but we are planning on checking this out on our trip in December. It's so CSIish...a fav show of ours. :rotfl:

Yes your kids and neices/nephews can all get thier own or they can share. DH and I shared the "Kimmunicator". From what I saw I think they will get thier own assignments. You go to one KP area swipe your ticket and then it will tell you to go to another to pick up the device at a designated time. So if that does happen they are all different you might have to figure out who in your party is going to follow them so they are not out there roaming alone if they are young.
