Is it me or do hate when someone ask's you "Where are you taking the Family for vacation?" you reply Disneyworld or on a Disney Cruise and pure hate comes out their mouths??? Lady on my job told me "I WOULD NEVER TAKE MY KIDS THERE I DON'T CARE HOW MANY TIMES THEY ASK" So I say WHY she thinks and say cause it's Disney. SMH so you would deny your kids the joy they ask for CRAZY. sorry had a soapbox moment.

Some people just don't "get it". All of us here "get it". I know some people who will say that they were at WDW 20 years ago...once, and they think they never need to go back. They see no reason to ever go back. Just think how crowded every thing will be if everyone "gets it".

My answer would be 'each to there own but you shouldn't knock it until you've tried it' - few people I know understand and can't understand why I travel to WDW or DCL when I no longer have small children

My wife wasn't a disney fan until I took her there now she has to go at least every 2-3 yrs. Seeing her and my kids smile from sun up to sun down PRICELESS

Its no one's business. But I think that kind of response is a $$ thing (envious that it's a stretch on the budget...)

What I tell people is:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music.

If somone wants you to go on a vacation and they are willing to pay for it, go and have a great time on them. If you are paying for the trip you go where and when you choose to go.

I understand not wanting to go to WDW as a vacation. I like it, but it is very expensive and noisy, and not my first choice of how to spend my money. We go occasionally because we live in Florida and used to live in California, but I wouldn't plan a vacation to WDW. The only time I did was when my kids were 3 and 4, and it was fun but other places are fun too.

I started doing the cruises because I wanted to go places, I HATE driving, and I live in Florida so the rates are cheap. When I lived in California (and MN too) everyone went to Vegas because it was cheap. I don't like Vegas at all. If I lived in Chicago, I'd probably find some other vacation because I think Disney has priced itself out of my return on investment level - just too expensive.

You aren't going to convince your neighbor, so just say that you like Disney and have figured out how to have a good time there on a budget.

I tell folks all the time Just do some homework I bet you can fit Disney in your budget. And being in Maryland I can save more going to Disney then Ocean City if I plan right.

ITA, I live in Md. too, and the same people that go to Ocean City every summer(more than once some of them)knock the fact that we do Disneyworld or cruises every year. It's our money, we also visit other places, but they always just say stuff about Disney. Most of them have never even left Md!!!!

YES YES YES and truth be told I would drive 8hrs to kick in Myrtle Beach then go down OC after I get my Fisher's Popcorn & Threasher Fries I'm done in OC. LOL

I grew up with parents like that. I was told it was all ridiculous and the castle isn't even real anyway, it is just a board propped up with a picture of the castle on it. I prepared for our first cruise in 2003 and we added on a day at MK at the last minute to see how the kids liked it. I was 36 and as we walked up main street towards the castle I looked up and it hit me that it was an actual structure and I started to cry. Thankfully, our kids have grown up much more experienced with Disney than I was.

If someone told me they would never go to Disney because it's Disney I would tell them what my DS did at age 8 when a classmate told him the characters were not real -- "I feel sorry for you because you don't have the magic in your heart!"

Yep, minus the airfare a Disney vacation is about as expensive as spending a week at the Jersey Shore. Now we usually do fly, but if we really needed to budget we could drive. I don't mind the drive and have done it several times. I leave at 4 am and go straight through and get there, depending on stops, between 7 and 9 pm.

I agree that some people just don't get it. I had someone tell me that they could never afford it. I as a single Mother of two just don't get that! My children have each had at least one 10 day trip dedicated to each of them with a few shorter trips over the years. It takes research and planning. An yes, slot of saving...lol but totally doable and worth it!

I live in NC not too far from Myrtle Beach and I hate it! I prefer a quiet beach like Holden or the Outer Banks! But, I am glad you like it!

That is the thing don't knock someone be happy for them!

And next time use the entire Southern saying "To each his own said the farmer as he kissed the pig!" Then, people will just look at you for a second til they figure it out!

Some folks actually don't like Disney for various reasons, but they shouldn't be taking it out on you just because you do.

And see, I could go to OC for the entire summer. Of course, I don't do it like most people and never go to the boardwalk or play minigolf or anything. In fact, I like it better in September when everyone is gone.
