Hi, we're going in July and I just wanted to know if you guys know the best time of day to get on this ride. I heard ifyou go too early you dont get to see as many animals. Any advice would be great! Thanks.

Obviously, as early in the morning as possible. I also had a question about how the Safari was at night during EMH. Like to find out myself. Thanks.

It depends on the time of year. Surely, in the summer, earlier is better. In the winter, it doesn't matter as much.

As we were walking into AK this past Thursday, it was raining. The CM checking us in said "Great day for you to see the safari! The animals love to comeout in the rain and be more active."
So no matter what time of day......if it's raining.........head to the safari! :thumbsup2

Earlier the better!! It's the first thing we head to- although this year we'll probably grab FP's for EE and then head to the Safari!

Also like others said- rain and cooler temps also bring out the animals. There is a zoo right near me and I've been three times- once in the summer, once in the rainy fall and once in the winter. Despite the bad weather for us, the cold weather and the rain REALLY brought out the animals and got them pretty active!!

Go first thing if you're heading to WDW in hot weather! :)

early morning is your best bet, it's not as hot so the animals aren't hiding out in the shade!!

I read on another forum that if you hit the safari as soon as the parade is over, it's the best time to see the animals. Apparently, they all come out for feeding time!

We're going in June so I haven't tested this out yet, but if anyone is going soon... try it out and let us know!

26 days and counting..... :cheer2:

I like to go earlier when it's not quite so hot. Last year we went in June, and it was up in the day and really hot, so we didn't get to see as many animals.

Yes!!!! go first thing in the morning. As the day goes on and the heat rises the animals head to shaded areas and stay there. You will be amazed at how much more you will see in the morning compared to the afternoon during hot days.

Just read on DIS somewhere from a CM from AK that 1 -3 pm was when the animals were most active. Something to do with them knowing they were about to be brought into the barns and fed. That would contradict the early morning advice. Not sure which is correct, though!

:confused3

we were there last weekend and we were on one of the first safari's of the morning and no elephants were out. I did see alot of rhinos which I normally haven't seen but every elephant was MIA. I don't know if that is normal or not. The great thing about the safari is that every time is a different experience.

We have been to the Safari at various times of the day and various times of the year. We have actually seen more animals later in the day than we have in the early morning trips. We've also seen different animals at different times of the day - some are more active early, some later. There are also feeding times during the day when the animals are more active because they are looking for food that was hidden for them.
The Safari closes at dusk, no matter when the park closes.

We've only been in June, so keep that in mind when reading my post. We, too, went early because everyone said that was the best time to see the animals. I disagree. We've gone in the morning and seen some. We've gone in the afternoon and see so many more! We also had an ostrich come up to my seat and start sticking his face in mine. I hate birds so I was having a slight anxiety attack, but I don't think that would have happened in the morning. He would have been happily sleeping away. Do the afternoon.
