Kilimanjaro safari in the cold weather - are the animals out?

I think the "nasty" weather is the best for KS! I have been when it has been cold and pouring, and it was actually the BEST! We saw so many animals and it was incredible! They actually closed the ride when we got off because of the weather... and about 30 mins later they had basically closed all of AK because the weather was so nasty. We were incredibly lucky though on that KS, it was an awesome journey and experience!

We were the very last ride of the day on KS ride in the second week of Dec during the insane cold snap, we saw more animals on that run than any other trip. The food trucks were just ahead of us, so all of the animals were coming out to eat! The best was the new baby giraffe coming down the trail right to our vehicle. Saw many of the obscure animals that normal hide on our previous trips. We had a blast, but wow....it was SO COLD!!!

Agree! We went the day after Christmas, which was COLD (even for me from NY) and saw way more animals than usual. No crocodiles, but pretty much everything else. We could see about half the lion's head because he was sleeping, but that's par for the course, so no disappointment for me there.

We also had probably the best driver EVER!!! I wish I could remember his name to write and compliment him. (Contrast that with the worst Jungle Cruise guide EVER the other night...and I've blocked out her name on purpose. But I'd recognize her again in a heartbeat and reuest to wait for another boat. Nasaly, whiny voice, high pitched squeals where you couldn't understand her, and she totally missed the timing on all of the jokes.)

We had one of the best safari's early Dec. It was freezing! The animals were everywhere but no lions. I guess it was too cold for them!

Us too! But we saw lions as well. One of the best rides on KS we've ever had.

We were on the safari on a very cold day in middle Dec. and the lions were very active, for them. This was shortly after the opening. In the dozens of safari's we a have taken, this was probably the coldest one and we thought the animals were more plentiful and active than at other times. This did surprise us.
