Is something you have to book in advance or just get in line? This is our first visit to WDW and when making our reservations I asked and was given a number to call that rings with no answer. Just curious.

You can also get a fastpass and ride something else if the line is too long.

Thanks! I know it sounded stupid, but we've been pretty worried about it. Our DS is more into AK than anything else.

That is a ride, just like the other rides at AK. You can't book in advance for a ride. Either get in the regular line if the wait isn't too long or get a fastpass. My recommendation is to go to that ride first thing at rope drop. Then you'll definitely get a chance to ride it no problem.

That explains the unanswered phone ringing in the queue...don't worry, that will be funny to you once you get there! :lmao:

As long as we are discussing this safari ride... both my boys are completely obssessed with animals. How much fun do you think they will have on this? And also I intend to take them first thing on a monday morning...is this a good plan or a bad one? Its the magic morning hour, so it'll be 8am.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

My boys (as well as the rest of the family) love this ride. We usually go there first thing, I think your plan is a good one. :thumbsup2

Oh great. Thanks.
I just hope there will be alot of animals out for them to see at that hour.

I've heard that the animals are more active in the morning before the day gets really hot which means you get to see more of them, so first thing is probably the best time to go on it. Hope you have fun.

I agree, first thing in the morning is the best time to ride. There are more animals out and they are much more active. Best ride ever:thumbsup2

we are going in august and cant wait for the safari ride, will be going 1st thing in the AM for the magic hours :woohoo:

We always ride this first. If it's a short wait, go and get a fast pass, get in line and ride it, and then ride it again a little later. The last time we were there, the lion and lioness were awake and she was grooming him. Not something you see very often. Even the driver was excited to see them. Sometimes the animals are right next to the truck.

I'm not sure what number someone gave you, but this is a ride like many others at AK or any theme park. Make your way to the line and enjoy the experience.

You may even want to ride it twice in a row - if you go first thing in the morning during extra magic hours or on a quieter day, it is really manageable. We were surprised at how many more animals we saw at 8:15 am on early magic hours day than we had seen several days before at 9:15 am and that experience was really something. My son has been on this since age 8 and he absolutely loves it!

I don't know how late the safari rides go, but might there be any rides offered closer to sunset time? And would that be another time the animals might be more active?

The ride closes down when dusk nears...there's no street lights on the safari!:rotfl2: If you're thinking about going late afternoon or early evening, check with castmembers to see how late the ride is running that day, because it does vary with the seasons (and with how late AK is open that day, too.) In the winter, for example, sometimes the Safari shuts before 5:00

My tip would be, it you're there during the hotter part of Spring, or during the summer, if you don't ride early in the morning, get the FastPass so you don't have to stand in line waiting during the hottest part of the afternoon...can be very hot, very long wait.

If your kids like animals, they will like this ride. We went in the early afternoon on a very cloudy day and the animals were out & about, most were active. Guide did say that ordinarily most would be sleeping in the afternoon, but the cloudy/cooler day was keeping them more active.

We just came back from Disney. This was one of my kids favorite rides. We went on Wednesday morning at rope drop. It was early morning hours. We were on the first ride out. It was worth getting up early. If you are there at rope drop there is a surprise for the little ones. (well for adults too). I miss it already. We had such a great time.

Run, do not walk, straight there in the morning. The first year we went, we didn't see ANY animals other than the lion sleeping on the rock because we went in the afternoon. Let me tell you, that lame poacher storyline is even worse when there is no animals to back up the story. Every year since, we rode it first thing. We walked right onto the ride each time and saw ALL of the animals. Much better.
