Kids, vacations and.....rules

I think that as your children age your rules relax a bit on vacation. My sons are ages 12 and 16. The only rule they have is to be respectful and don't cause any problems. They stayed up late, sometimes until 2 in the morning. If they woke up cranky that was their problem, lol. They can eat what they want, when they want- hey we are on vacation.... #1 one rule- don't drive Mom nuts, lol..........

still very strict with our daughter on everything but bedtime.

we tend to spoil her a little more at disney (as iff a 4 year old on her 5th vist to DW is spoiled enough).

But she is still required to behave like a little girl, but have fun. As long as she pays attention and listen to our instructions when she needs to be realed in, she goes the week fine.

We relax them all except the "must be polite at all times or somebody's going to get hurt" rule. DK's are older now, but always enjoyed late bedtime, rising when we want (although we are early risers) all the good food we can eat and spending a little less frugally. We never go on vacation with total abandon, but certainly do enjoy ourselves to the fullest.

My number one rule is that we absolutely must break the rules. Dole Whips for dinner, sure. If one won't fill you up I'm sure a second should do the trick. Pizza at midnight as we drag back to the room, no problem. As long as the stand is open a little late night snack is great. Rock'n'Rollercoaster 10 times in a row; only if they insist. :earboy2:

Basically if they are respectful of others and are having fun we're good.

Hey it's not a vacation until someone pukes
Apparently that is a real rule posted somewhere that only kids know about, and let me tell you, at least one of mine follows it everytime! :goodvibes

they had a limit on spending set pretrip once they were a little older, before that they got x number of souvies set pretrip. we window shopped but saved the "big" buying usually till the last day at each park so they knew what they wanted ( our kids were 6 and 8 first trip so not toddlers) if they were sure they wanted it they could buy it but they were always afraid they'd find something else so they usually waited.

at wdw they always had to be nice, polite, the everyday normal behavior type things ect but we never worried about bedtimes. we ate regular meals at ts usually once a day and they like veggies and salad so that wasn't a problem but they could have snacks occasionally...none of us were really big on snacking so that wasn't a real area of contention.

when they got to their late teens they could go to illuminations by themselves(usually they had friends along so as a group via the bus) but still had their 11 pm curfew so basically had to come back right afterwards. no way could they go to dtd or someplace like that alone but could go around the resort without parents till 11 also. that was pretty much like at home also.

they could have soda for drinks instead of milk so i guess except for that, bedtime out the window and getting stuff, wdw was just like home :rotfl:
