DS has 2 books to read, do you think he has started them yet??? I wish he would be as least half as enthusiastic with this as he is working out at the YMCA
Krisu, are you sure we don't have the same son? LOL!
He thought that he'd have no summer reading this year, because he's transferring from private school to a public school that has no assigned reading.
Think again....mom assigned him 2 books!! He has until tomorrow to finish the 2nd one (school starts on Wednesday). I think he has about 100 pages left, so I don't think he'll be going to the Y tomorrow!
LOL .. I have a book to read, math problems to complete, and a few single page essays for my politics class. I go back to school September 5th .. but I'm going to WDW next week .. and when we get back home, I'm going to be hard-core driving lol b/c I get my license the day before school starts ..
This is an 8th grade list. With the help of our local Librarian who was able to look them up in computer and give us a brief synopsis of each he picked "The Slave Dancer" by Paula Fox and "The River" by Gary Paulsen. Also on the list was "A Tale of Two Cities" which I think is a bit much although I remember reading "In Cold Blood" when I was his age!!
My nephew just finished 9th grade where he was forced to read Romeo and Juliet. He said that when the class complained that it was boring the teacher said that she was required to have them read it and that was that!
What enthusiasm!
I agree that it's horribly boring (as is most of Shakespeare). There must be a better way... my nephew now says that he hates all reading! How sad!
My soon to be 6th grader has to read 2 from a list of about 20. Several are by Gary Paulsen(The Rifle, Dogsong, Woodsong). Joey Pigza Swollowed a Key, Gold Dust, Julie's Wolf Pack, On the Far side of the Mountain, Where the Red Fern Grows, Bullrun, The Hobbit, The Wanderer, Crossing Jordan, Tuck Everlasting, ETC!!!!
My DS has read 1. We gave him a deadline to finish the other or he never would get started DD, on the other hand, reads everything in sight.
Tuck Everlasting should be good. I read 1984 in 1984. Blah boring! I used to love reading when I was younger, but high school killed it for me. Now, at 35 I am finally starting to read again. I am enjoying some Jane Asutin novels.
I have 3 books to read for World Cultures along with study guides for each.
I have a 118 page german book to read and i have to make a vocab list.
I then have a german journal. I have to write 10 entries (5 on anything and 5 on summer reading) each with 200 words.
I start school on Sept 5th and have done about 20 pages of german.
