Kid's Summer Hols dates UK

Hi there. First ever post. Think this site is fantastic!!

My husband and our 7 year old daughter are travelling to WDW on 2nd July2011 for the first time.

As well as a zillion questions I have (it's all so overwelming but just want to do things the best we can!) this one is...

What dates do children on the mainland Uk start their Summer Hols? In Northern Ireland our kids finish on 30th June so we thought we'd head of as soon after as poss.

Also wonder if anyone knows US school holidays? Just wondering when would start getting busier during the Summer Months?

I believe a lot of America starts earlier than the UK. So I would think the earlier the better for you, we are heading over in May apparently after Memorial Day things start to pick up.

You will have a fab time, we did on our first trip in 2008 and I am now planning for May 2011.

US states vary a lot in their start dates, from the start of August to early September, and that ignores the year round schools. They also get out anywhere from early May through to mid-June, again ignoring year round schools. June and July are likely to be the very worst in terms of US kids being out of school though, so yes, the earlier, the better.

I conducted a poll similar to this a while back and I believe the outcome was that the majority of US schools close around the 16th June maybe a little earlier (I think).

In the UK state schools close normally the weekend of the 22nd July I believe but private schools close a good 2/3 weeks earlier to that.

American schools star back mid August I believe, the end of August is actually not very busy.

Also apart from the schools you will be there for 4th July - which is very busy.

US schools will all be finished by July and have far more impact than UK school holidays.

You will have a great time but be prepared to get to the parks at opening and use fastpass.

Hi - I am actually a USA resident surfing around and saw your post. Summer holidays in the US are different by state with some southern states getting out as early as end of May, others towards the end of June. Schools start up in August through the first 2 or 3 weeks of December.

I have been to WDW at the end of June and it was crowded so need to plan around that. Plus, it will be very hot and humid in July. Good luck with your planning and have fun!

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. Looks like it'll be pretty busy during Summer months so will just take a chill-pill when necessary!

WELCOME!!!!

Don't worry about it being busy. We only ever went in peak times until last year and I found it much harder to try and juggle a schedule with reduced park hours. If you don't have anything to compare it to, you will be fine. There are ways to manage the crowds and heat and I know I am in the minority here, but in many ways, I prefer it busier with more usable hours. Everything is operating at full swing and you have the longer days to play with to beat the heat, recharge and get out to the parks again in the cooler evenings.

I kinda agree with 2tiggies.

Our first visit was from the 8th Jan to the 4th February 2005 and the parks were spooky quiet.

The next time we visited was during October and although much busier than February it felt more magical The crowds seemed to give the place a buzz in a way which we never felt the past February.

Next year we are trying the end of August beginning of September due to DS starting senior school and you know I'm really looking forward to it.

My DD is off school 13th july to 6th Sept. All US schools will be off.

Touringplans.com rates each day out of 10 (10 is the busiest). It costs a few $ to subcribe but is worth it imo - gives best day for each park and touring plans.

4th july is 10/10. Next two weeks are mainly 8 or 9 i.e very busy to minimise waits.

But you can get there at opening and use fast passes.
