With my gastric bypass I can't eat a full meal, can an adult order off the kids menu at a sit down restaurant? We are going to San angel for late lunch.

At most restaurants you will have no issue. I believe San Angel is a third party restaurant though so it may not follow the same rules as regular Disney owned and operated places.

assuming you are not on a dining plan any DISNEY operated restaurant this is fine.

at the ones that are owned by outside vendors, they tend to be less accommodating. IIRC San Angel Inn is in the latter category

What I do, , is order off the adult for my son and I .. and then we split the plate.. he is 10 and growing and loves a salad.. the food on the kids menus is crap.. much better to get one meal and share it..

Most places kids meals are pizza and chicken nuggets. Just something to consider

If you are just going to San Angel Inn, their kids menu is one of the better ones. I know that Via Napoli can get snotty about adults ordering from the kids menu, but I don't remember San Angel being a problem. To be safe, I agree with a PP that you might want to check out the appetizers on the adult menu. After bypass, you'd still likely need to share one of those.

If you go to table service restaurants, most have some kind of grilled fish, grilled chicken or steak as an option. Some times more than one. One of my daughters went a week without eating a chicken nugget but she ate well at table service meals.

1) If paying OOP, you can order any kid's meal without a problem.
2) MrsRustyScupper and I do this if we are not splitting a meal.

My husband's doctor gave him a card saying he had the surgery, and needed to order from the kids menu.

I don't think that would hold up. They could argue it is on your husband to police his own portion. They could let him order from the children's menu but nothing would stop them from charging more for it.

That doesn't matter, Disney won't look at doctor's notes for any service. Odds are it isn't needed anyway.

That is not all they offer. It is pretty easy to find things like fish, steak, and salads on the kids menus.

1) Disney does not care about such cards.
2) They can be easily faked,
. . . they cannot make certain how much you really are eating
. . . as a restaurant owner, you would be surprised at the number of these cards people try to show us
3) At AYCTE, dinner shows, and buffets, adults pay full adult prices.
4) Elsewhere, they can usually order form the kid's menu.
.
NOTE: Alas, gastric bypass surgery does have its pitfalls. Of course, the health benefits FAR OUTWEIGH the inconveniences such as
. . . not eating enough at buffets to make it cost justifiable to go
. . . not getting many restaurant discounts for a the smaller appetite
. . . not being able to take aspirin or steroids for aches and pains
. . . not being able to eat quickly, and usually being the last one at the table to finish the meal

No, we knew very well that they weren't required to honor the card. I don't believe he ever even tried to use it; he didn't live but a couple of years after he had the surgery, and like somebody said, kids' menus aren't really gastric-bypass friendly foods anyway.

As someone who has had gastric bypass, (over 10 years ago) but still eat 6oz or less (sometimes that pouch gets full within 6 bites) of food at a meal - I split with my husband. We sometimes get a side salad or app but other than that, we split. I have yet to have a restaurant say we cannot and that I must order a meal. I long lost that card so I explain the situation. My money is being spent, I will NOT pay for something I will not eat. If we are coming home after the dinner and I want something completely different from him, I will order, and then take the rest home. If there was a problem, I would leave or ask to see a manager. Splitting a meal is usually better anyway since you won't be relgated to kids food choices and there is almost always enough for two people. I will say however, we do tip in accordance to what the meal would have been with two regular entrees. For example, average entree cost is $18 then we tip $8.00 NOT $4.00 - the waitress or waiter is still serving two people.

I am going to pay the price printed, not a penny more. It doesn't matter who is eating it. There is no comment on there that states "if a child eats this, it is $5.00 but for the same amount we charge adults $8.00." If I order it and bring it home for my dog, the price is what is printed.

NOT in regards to the quoted post but in general: You are not letting me do anything. I am paying for the food and service. I am paying your restaurant to eat there. Unless they want to comp my meal, then I am ordering off whichever menu has the correct portion size for me or I am splitting. I do not understand how other patrons think I should pay for a bunch of food that will be wasted. If that is your choice, great - go ahead and pay for a bunch of stuff but what I eat or pay for is really none of your business..
