Kids sized meal

Are you traveling by yourself, or is there someone you can share with? You can split with others in your party. You don't even have to order entrees, you can order apps.

I am going to pay the price printed, not a penny more. It doesn't matter who is eating it. There is no comment on there that states "if a child eats this, it is $5.00 but for the same amount we charge adults $8.00." If I order it and bring it home for my dog, the price is what is printed.

NOT in regards to the quoted post but in general: You are not letting me do anything. I am paying for the food and service. I am paying your restaurant to eat there. Unless they want to comp my meal, then I am ordering off whichever menu has the correct portion size for me or I am splitting. I do not understand how other patrons think I should pay for a bunch of food that will be wasted. If that is your choice, great - go ahead and pay for a bunch of stuff but what I eat or pay for is really none of your business..

Wow you must be a real fun person at restaurants. The menue says for children age whatever and under. At Disney it is 10. So if you want to be snippy and go off what is listed then they can tell you sorry you can't order a kids meal. Also many places do charge a sharing fee. Not at Disney but it isn't an uncommon thing. Plus a restaurant can charge whatever they want as long as they tell you at ordering. Every time I've been upcharged it has been at ordering so I was fully aware it was going to happen and could either chose something else or leave.

Exactly. I've always thought that Disney should simply enforce the age limits on the childrens' menu and be done with it. If someone feels the adult portions are too large and food can be wasted, then they can share, bring in their own food or not eat.

With my gastric bypass I can't eat a full meal, can an adult order off the kids menu at a sit down restaurant? We are going to San angel for late lunch.

OP, my mom has the sleeve, and she's done what you're asking at many table service restaurants that are Disney and non-Disney but on Disney property. We just ask the host up front or the server, depending on who gets the menus, and go from there.

We've had one issue a long time ago, and then she just ordered an adult dish and left the rest. For buffets, it was full adult price, we've never asked otherwise but we've never gone for the food at Disney buffets either!

Enjoy your lunch!

Ultimately, if it's a vacation or a special occasion, I'd just order the meal you want knowing it won't be finished. I don't go on vacation or make a reservation to celebrate something to go in and eat a kid's meal. I know sometimes they're equivalent to something on the adult menu, but in those cases I don't really blame the restaurant for being strict, since it's something that could be abuse. If I'm home, I'd probably take the left overs home. But if I'm traveling, it's not always possible to carry around a take out container. That's something I accept going in, and for the relatively short amount of time I spend in restaurants when traveling or celebrating I'll just spend a little extra money and enjoy the meal I think I'll enjoy most, or something I'd like to try, rather than worry about not finishing what's on the plate.

. I hate to be the one to break the news, but it's actually fairly normal to pay for food that gets wasted. Portion sizes tend to be large, many people don't clean their plates even if they haven't had gastric bypass. At the parks it's toohard to carry around then reheat leftovers, so the food goes to waste. Your situation really isn't all that special.

Good luck with that. Most restaurants have an age limit for their kids menu. So I guess you should plan on order adult meals, if that is your take on things.

I go to the parks ALL the time. I live in Orlando. I have been to MANY more restaurants at the parks than most. I am very POLITE and explain if needed. NOT ONE time have I been made to order an entire entree or not been allowed to order from the kids menu or been charged an additional fee. THIS IS HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE. Everyone needs to stop butting into others issues. If you want to comp my meal, feel free to tell me what to eat or order, otherwise keep it to yourself. I don't say anything when people have to make special requests casue they couldnt eat off this menu or that menu or have some allergy I have never heard of.

You are super sensitive to this issue. OP asked a question and as a discussion board other members chimed in. We all said Disney owned and operated restaurants will not cause problems as long as you aren't on the dinning plan. There are some restaurants on property that have done up charges or denyed a children's meal to an adult. That is well with in the restaurants right as a business. No one is butting into anyone's needs or eating habits just saying some places may not be as accomidating as others. Yes, you have never experienced an upcharge but I have so it does indeed happen and it is up to the individual to determine if it is worth it or not.

Closing as it has gotten into arguments.

To summarize:
Ask politely

Expect you could be told that children's menu is just for children (even if people have reported being allowed to order from that menu, things can change)

Expect to be charged the adult price for buffets and for any meals with entertainment.

Servers do have some discretion about charges, but may or may not be able to give a discount.

If you are traveling with other people, you can ask to split a meal. WDW owned restaurants are usually fine with this (and will even often bring extra plates). They are not required to do that, so there could be an up charge
