I know it depends on the child, but has anyone had experience with their kids geting seasick? I'm going to talk to our ped. but wondered what worked for you guys. I have two DD's age 3 and 7. Thanks! :)

We just returned from the cruise with kids 7, 7, 11. Each of the 7 year olds woke up in the middle of one night and was sick. It was so weird! They threw up and then went right back to sleep. Of course they picked different nights to be sick. Neither of them had a fever or did it again. We did not give them any med. because they never seemed bothered by the ship during the day. Our ped. warned us that the kid medicine tends to cause drowsiness. We really didn't want to give it to them unless they really needed it. Our 11 year old did not notice anything!

Last September (think Jeanne) my ds who was 8 at the time was in the club, and we were paged, he was literally green. We made it to our stateroom, and then he was sick.. Literally five minutes later, he was begging me to order him room service!!!! :confused3 I was against it but DH said, Maybe he needs it.. So, lo and behold, he ate a hot dog and fries, and was fine.

We were later told that a full stomach is the way to go...

Thank God it was shortlived.. :earsboy:

Just to let you know that we had rough seas the first night on our last Feb on our RCl Cruise. I was the only one who felt dizzy and a little sick. I didn't throwup. I assumed my kids DD1 and DS 5 at the time had stomachs of steel, because they didn't complain at all. But the more I think about what the last poster said we ate a little through out the day so we always had something in our tummys. My husband on the other hand I wouldn't even ask if he felt okay, since he was on a aircraft carrier the first 5 years he was in the military. This august I am the only one planning on taking anything.

I spoke to my pediatrician about this....and they suggested that Childrens Benadryl is a good preventative for the kids to take for seasickness. I had never heard of this, but will be taking it with us on our cruise next month (God....it feels good to say "next month is our cruise"!!!!)
I also will probably give it to them before getting on the airplane, as this will be their first trip on one.

Thanks for the post. My DH and I have never felt seasick anytime we have cruised so I never thought twice about my kids. I will have to look for wristbands and remember that Benedryl. :flower:

My DS, then 7, was very worried about getting seasick on our cruise last year. I got him the bands and told him they would make him not. I knew he would be fine, but I think the bands really helped him mentally and he was fine. Personally I felt we had calm seas which of course helped, but according to other passengers on the same cruise it was rocky(I saw thier posts on cruise critic).

Hi there,
We did the 7 day land & sea in Feb/05 and from CBR to the port I picked up the wristbands for the girls(7 & 4) had them put them on right away and didn't take them off until we docked on the Sunday morning back at PC. They were fine, but I too agree with the idea of always having something in their stomachs. I brought along a container of ginger snap cookies for them to munch on whenever we were in the room(especially when everyone was getting ready in the morning to go eat or to an island) and we brought a 6 pk of gingerale to leave in the fridge, just in case. They weren't queasy once, but it was nice to know I had back ups just in case.

This is what our pediatrician recommended for DD's 3 and 4 (at the time). Even though it can make the kids sleepy, she said traditional sea-sickness meds can act unpredictably in small children.

That being said, even with a child who tends to get car sick, my kids didn't have any trouble. They kept asking when the ship was going to sail - even when we were in St. Maarten.
