My daughter did this about a week ago. Fortunately, I happened to see it about a minute later and made her take it down. Today, one of her friends did the same thing. I pm'd this girl that she needs to ask her mom or dad if it's ok.

I hope she removes it, or I may call her parents. What do you think?

I think that if my DD did this, she would no longer have a FB account, and would probably lose the cell phone for a very, very long time.

I would let the parents know, just an fyi, didn't know if you knew kind of thing.

My son did this too. My sister actually caught it first and called me. I went onto his account and changed the message to, "I got a cell phone. Send me an e-mail if you want my number." I would have caught it later that night because I log on as each of my kids every night to monitor them. That was our agreement. I'm glad my sister saw it soon though. My son did not get in any trouble. He didn't intend to do anything wrong. We just chatted, again, about internet safety.

It depends on who they have as friends on facebook.... if it's random stranger, there is a bigger problem than having your phone number posted. If it's people they're just gonna give it to anyway, I don't see what the big deal is.

ITA! If she only has people as friends that she would normally give her phone number to anyway, IDK what the big deal is either.

I was on my friends FB page and saw that her 22 year old son (who lives with her) had a page and was recently engaged so I wanted to check him out. To my surprise my friends address and phone number were posted for all to see. I messaged my friend and he promptly had him remove it. You would have thought a 22 year old would be smarter than that. We have told our son that this information shouldn't be posted ever. If this child doesn't remove it today, I would definiely let the parents know because chances are they aren't aware that their child has the number up there.

I agree! Anyone on mine or my daughters facebook would be people that already had my cell number or hers so no big deal with her posting it on there....only her friends can see it!

I believe there are people far more computer literate who can break through privacy options. I don't want to take any chances.

I happened accross an ex-boyfriends phone number on facebook, because I am close friends with his cousin!!! She commented on a quote of his, added some of her own info to something he said and she all of a sudden had the quote (along with HIS PHONE NUMBER) on HER facebook page!!! He got mad at himself for posting it, because some old weird friend of his in H.S had a crush on him back then, she started CALLING HIM about 2 days after his number was posted!!! AND SHE WASN'T FRIENDS WITH HIM...she was Friends of a FRIEND that his cousin had on her FB page!!! this just happened a few weeks ago!

ALSO, it's scary, because if your kids friends aren't honest, respectful people- it only takes ONE to copy the number and put it on their page or give it out to others.

Just because people are 'facebook friends' doesn't mean that they are people that should have your kids phone number. ALSO, look at the THOUSANDS of people who are ON facebook that just go looking to get the most friends they can (even if they DON'T know the person in real life!!!)

It is NOT safe to put a phone number on ANYONE'S page.

That is exactly the point. People do not realize that their info is there for the whole world to see - it's like standing naked in your front yard, if you don't want people to see, don't put it out there!!!

There are some boys on my sons baseball team that have FB pages. They are 9 and 10 year olds. I have other friends who have let their kids have FB pages and apparently dont' ever check them. I'm not FB friends with some of those kids have and I can still look at their pages and all of their content. Some of them have themselves listed as adults.

Underage children do not need FB pages unless there is a responsible parent or adult that will monitor their page.

You don't need Facebook for that.

I have my number on my page and I'm happy determining what is and isn't safe for myself. I don't need someone else to do that for me. It's a phone number, not an SSN.

If you are an adult it is certainly up to you to put your phone number on your FB page and nobody's business if you do. But, if you think your phone number can't lead to thieves, crooks, criminals, pychos, etc. to finding out your address and other personal info, including your SSN, then, I'm sorry, you are being a bit naive.

If you think the only way an internet hacker is going to get my phone number is through Facebook, I don't think I'm the naive one.

No, I didn't say that, and it is certainly not the only way your personal information can be breeched. But, by putting this kind of information out there on FB, they don't have to bother with hacking you, you've done the initial leg work for them.

we are not talking about YOU, nor are we talking about the normal older teen or any other adult. We are talking about a CHILD with his or her own cell phone. I know that my home number is posted in a bunch of places online...if my DD's had a a cell phone- I doubt it's going to be public info. on what their number is, unless they or I post it. I have not ONCE found my cell phone number, my parents cell # or my husbands # online either (believe me I've looked, because I was interested)...

When I was in high school, I had a phone (no cells back then) and my number was published in the phone book for everyone to see.
I'm not sure if I've got my cell phone number on my facebook page, but I do have it on my website.
Don't know what safety issue comes up with someone having your phone number, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Of course they would still have to hack me :confused3 Unless one of my friends is a thief, in which case Facebook is the least of my worries. I think I'll be okay.
