Can the kids be in the club/lab while the parents do an excursion(or just go off ship for a little while)? I didn't think DCL would do this, but other posts seem to suggest otherwise.

Thanks!

Yes, you can drop your child in the club/lab and leave the ship. Be aware that the pagers won't work while you are on land (or at least that's what you are told.)

this is a bad thing? ;)

Just kidding folks, YES I LOVE MY KIDS:laughing: :earboy2:

You can leave your kids onboard, and not have to worry about them.

My sis and I did this last year. We checked the kids into the club and lab. The counselors asked what time we expected to be back onboard, as they would not page us until after that time.

The kids were in good hands, and had most of the club and activities to themselves. Only a handful were checked for the day.

Has anyone done this at Key West and left a cell phone number with the club? Since that is still USA, I assume a call phone will work there. Do you know if they would use it if they wanted to contact us? Our current thoughts for Key West involve a lot of walking which DS5 probably would not enjoy, but he might be more comfortable staying onboard without us if he knew the couselors could call us .....

I know that your cell will work on Key West....havn't left a kid in lab there, but have made cell calls from there.

DH and I chose not to do this. All I could think about was something happening to me whereby I couldn't make it back to the ship, or something happening to them where they cold not get in touch with me.

But I am sure they are in good hands and would probably enjoy being in the club more than walking around Key West.

It's a matter of personal preference and you will get lots of opinions on this one.

DH and I briefly went into town in Key West (to buy DD7 a lycra diveskin for snorkelling later in the cruise!) but she didn't want to come with us. She was happier staying in the club. We told them we'd be back by 3:00.

However, while we were shopping the pager went off! Thinking there was some sort of crisis, we ran back to the ship - only to find DD wanted us to bring her a sweater!!!

CMs take care of kids on every cruise while their parents are on an excursion or shopping. For many kids, the club or lab beats shopping ANY day. As previous folks have said, be sure to tell the CMs when they can expect you back...and then be back at that time so they can set the expectations for your children.

We did this as well in St. Thomas. We were more nervous than our DS6 and he was fine. We went for a couple hours shopped and returned. He barely knew we were gone. He was in good hands.

Jen, we did this last year in Nassau. Rachel doesn't like to walk around alot "shopping" so we left her in the club.

She had a wonderful time and so did we.

The pagers don't work off the ship but the CM's just asked for a general time that we would be returning.

If your kids really enjoy the club/lab then chances are they won't care where you are or what you are doing.

We are planning of leaving the girls onboard in November while we go on the Shipwreck Snorkle Excursion. Neither one of them is able to swim well enough to even think about taking them with us, and what better place for them to be than onboard, having fun and doing there own thing.
