Kids *Middle* Names?

I despised my middle name growing up(Emma), but when I was pregnant with DS, if he had been a girl he would have been Emma Grace(Grace after my paternal grandma)..so she may come around..it is one of my top girls names now.

My mother's name is Emma. I had rarely heard that name on anyone else growing up. Now a lot of people are naming their girls Emma.

DD's middle name is Grace. I had this name picked out before her first name. Grace was my Grandmother's name and she passed away a couple of months before DH and I got married and I wanted to honor her. DD has a very 'old' name-- Catherine Grace

If DD would have been a boy I wanted to name him Reid Parker -- Reid was my Great Grandfather's name and Parker was my Grandmother's maiden name.

DS's middle name is Chatham. It's a family name that's been used for at least 10 generations on my dad's side.

DD's middle name is Marjorie, for DH's mother. I think DMIL was very touched that we used her name for her first granddaughter.

All of our kids have three given names: the names they are called(first names), then George(my DH), and one other family name.

DD,Catherine Georgette, is named after me & DH
DS19 is George Christopher, named for his dad
DS10 is Thomas George, named for my dad/Grand F/Brother and his dad.

DD1 is Kathryn for her great-great grandmother as well as other family members (though they are "Catherine"). DS is Henry because DH is a history buff. DS's first name is Patrick. DD2 is Clare because it flows so well with her first name - Caroline.

Erin :)

My three have "standard" middle names.
DD#1 Aimee Elizabeth (My best friend's name DH wouldn't agree to it as first name)
DD#2 Emilie Anne (My middle name too, but without the e)
DS#3 Daniel Robert (My DH's first name)
All 3 middle names have a connection to us. We are of French background and loved the first DD's name spelled that way. When it came to DD#2 we kept with the French spelling. It also avoided having to listen to "I can't ever find anything with my name on it - spelled the right way" This way neither of them could ever find anything with the proper spelling!

Our 2 DS's both have middle names that are family names.

Our oldest DS is Brady Michael. Middle name was for DH's favorite uncle who passed away.

Our youngest DS is Zachary William. The middle name is my dad's first name.

My mother and her childhood best friend made a pact that each of them would name their first born daughter after the other one. Mom's best friend's name is Phyllis Gail, so I am Stacy Gail. My mom's name is Kathy Lynn, so her best friend's daughter's name is Brittany Lynn. I think it's sweet that they kept that promise all those years.

My children's names are:

pirate: Jake Gearin (Gearin is my maiden name...it sounds like Aaron, just with a "G" sound at the beginning)

princess: Presley Grace
I do have a neat story about her name.....my husband and I are Elvis fans and always wanted to name a little girl Presley. When we were pregnant with Jake, we were going to name him Presley Brooke had he been a girl. So, 6 years later when we found out our 2nd baby was a girl, we still wanted Presley, but were undecided on a middle name. I wanted Katherine as a middle name because it's my mom's full name and he wanted to use Faith. Neither of us was budging.

By the way, my husband is a radio disc jockey with a morning show on a country station in Jackson, TN. So, he was talking on the air one day about our dilemma when his listeners started calling in suggestions.....mainly Grace and Marie. Grace because of Graceland and Marie because of Lisa Marie.

We decided to make a Top 5 list of middle name ideas and let his listeners vote the next day. The top 5 were: Grace, Katherine, Faith, Brooke and Drew (my brother's middle name). Grace got the most votes. So, we named her Presley Grace! People still come up to us and ask if we really named her Presley Grace. It fits her so well, though!

I also have a Kylie Brooke princess: ....just a name we liked.

Stacy

DD16 middle name is Elizabeth...I really liked the name as a first name, but knew a guy at work who also had a new baby named Elizabeth and I didn't want to pick a common name . Also, I was young and felt I wanted a name that was a little more trendy  so we picked Courtney.

DD8 middle name is Brianna ~ first name is Elisabeth ~ I went right back to it when I got pregnant the 2nd time ~ I regretted not naming DD16 that and Elisabeth is the way I would have spelled it for DD16 if I had my way!

DD5 middle name is Madeline ~ first name is Peyton

All the girls middle names are also middle names of their paternal grandmother's, although the names were already chosen beofre we found out they were family names

That is such a great story!

Middle names, I think should be named after a family member, should connect a child to the past..probably because that's just the way my Mom did it.LOLMy middle name is Emma, after Mom's grandma, and my brother's each have one of our grandfathers first names.

Elizabeth,Margaret & Bridget all family names.

DD12 Eleni has learned to live with that, too. Not only is it an unusual name(unless you're Greek :teeth: ) nobody knows how to say it. Most people call her Ellen or Elaine when they first see it. You pronounce it el-LEN-ee in Greek. Here in the South :sunny: it got changed to ee-LANE-ee and we just didnt fight it.It suits her perfectly since she has that olive skin and thick wavy dark hair, dark eyes--she's quite exotic looking. Her older brother is very "concerned" about the attention she draws. :goodvibes

DDs middle name is RAYNE ~ which I thought was fun & original at the time....but I've run into a couple Rayne's since then. :confused3

DH and I both have family names as middle names. I hate mine, Conlon. Dh's is Morse (he's related to Samuel Morse!)

DD is Marie, after my mom
DS17 is Roberts, ex DH's mother's maiden name
DS6 is Raleigh, his great grandfather's name.

My 6yo is Cassandra Marie Elaine - Marie is my middle name and Elaine is my moms middle name

my 18mo is Isabella Theresa Maria - Theresa is my grandmothers name and Maria is my mother in laws and my sisters name.

my 6mo is William Ryan. Ryan is my grandmothers maiden name.

My oldest is a Junior... and no middle name.

My 2 younger sisters have my step dads name as their middle name -

Polychroni :rotfl2:

Im boring and tradtional
DS #1 middle name is Paul
DS #2 middle name is Allen

DS's middle name is Alexander (there seem to be a few others with that middle name here ;) ). DH wanted his middle name to be Cole but I really like Alexander. I thought it sounded better and it was even the name of my boy Cabbage Patch doll as a kid. In the end I won. :teeth:

DD's middle name is Nichole. We could not decide on a first name forever and we finally settled on Allison after months of going over names. DH and I were discussing the name over the phone and we were talking about possible middle names. The first name that came to both of us and we said it at the same time was Nichole so we went with it.

We did not really get into any family names with the exception of when I was expecting DS. My grandmother passed away right before I got pregnant with him and I really felt her with me during that pregnancy. Her name was Grace and if we had a daughter instead of a son I was going to name her Kimberly Grace.

My middle name came from a Beatles song :cool1:

As for my (none-existant) children, I probably will give them more unique first and middle names (which I already know, if my none-existant husband will agree on them). I grew up being the only person I knew with my name (I just met another person with my name a few weeks ago for the first time), and I really liked the individuality.

DH amd I have sort of unique names... mine is Gredel and DHs is Walter Henry III (He goes by Henry as they all do and they all are living - Sr, Jr, III & IV). Makes Family gatherings quite confusing!! Having grown up with no other names like ours in school - it was hard to pick a unique but acceptable name. We couldn't go with a super common name. DS6 is Henry IV and DS3 is Brayden "Brady" Owen. Brayden/Brady was a not so common name at the time. Also the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl that year! :woohoo: Dear Child #3 will get an equaly unique, but not strange, name upon arrival - no ultra sounds here! I like names to have some sort of meaning.

I also found having worked in many local schools, as does my mom and sister (Liesel) ((Yes, my mom was a Sound of Music freak)) for so long that names had faces attached to them in my/our mind. "What about xxx?" "No! There was a xxx in my class 2 years a go that was a royal pain in the..." - What a pain that is!!

DD's middle name is Michael. No family connection, and no, we weren't hoping for a boy - I just love the name Michael for girls. We seriously considered using it for her first name, but we chickened out and named her Molly Michael. I figured she'd hate it for at least part of her childhood, but she never did (she's 18 now). She always loved it, and actually went through a time in junior high when she asked people to call her Michael. Lots of her friends still call her Molly Mike from time to time, which I think is really cute.
