Kid's menus at dinner rotation restaurants?

For the main dinner restaurants in the rotation, do they have separate kid's menus or do kids have to order off the adult menu?

Is there any age restriction at any of the restaurants?

At the three main dining rooms there are no age restrictions. Only adults 18 and over are allowed at Palo, the optional restaurant that's not part of the dining rotation.

There are no age restrictions on the kids' menus. Adults can order off the kids' menus if they prefer. And kids can order off the adults' menus if they prefer.

The kids menus are the usual kid fare-chicken fingers, mac n cheese, etc. (See Dave's site www.dcltribute.com )My ds-8 is more adventurous so he ordered mix and match. Generally he ordered an adult appetizer, a kid entree(but not every night) and an adult dessert. He did have Mickey bars a couple of nights. On the last night, so did my dh and myself.

Do they offer anything besides what is on the menu?

My kids are definetely not going to eat hot dogs for dinner each night. As for mac and cheese, unless it's Kraft they won't touch it. Hard to say what they eat, but my 7 year old eat's cereal for most dinners because he only eats burgers, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly and pizza (stripped of all toppings). My 6 year old eats a few more things than that, but not much. And the 2 1/2 year old pretty much likes peanut butter and jelly or meatballs.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who has picky eaters! I've heard that the servers are very good about special requests. Asking for cereal for dinner or a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich would be very easy for them to accomodate.

I understand picky eaters (I have 3 sons) but you might be surprised. If your kids are old enough to read the menu, give them both the kids menu and the adults and let them try whatever they want. Since they can choose anything they just might find something else to add to things they will eat.
PS The chicken fingers are really good!

Servers are excellent in proving other options for children. "A little of this and a little of that"!

I didn't know that children could order off the adult menu. As older parents, we try to encourage our son's palate...do you read banging our heads against the wall here?! : )
But he does like some "adult" type foods so that will be wonderful.

One evening he became ill after we ordered and we had to leave. Our server brought our food up to our suite! That is a courtesy that was very well rewarded and very much appreciated!

DD8 will be happy to know she can order from the adult menu. Somehow I got lucky and got a kid who will try anything (including escargot last year in France - and she loved them!). Dh would be happier ordering off the kids menu. Has anybody ever seen a 45 yo eating the mac 'n' cheese??

I azlways wondered where my husband's twin brother was! Now I know....eating Mac and Cheese on the DCL!!!!!!!!

Escargot?! You really have a gourmet on your hands! I thought they were just wonderful in garlic butter on my last cruise. My DH nearly lost it when he looked down at them.

At least we can all make choices....and boy am I starting to get hungry!

My DH just kept staring at her, could not believe his eyes. He then dared her to try liver pate (liked it), some kind of scallop dish (ate every last bite) and would have ordered frogs legs just to see but she had by then eaten so much she would have yakked! He, on the other hand, managed just fine in France eating pasta, bread, chocolate & wine. Gained 5 lbs but had a carbo-induced blast.

Okay, I feel better now. The kids definetely eat like I do. To me, it sounds better to hang around the pool area and eat pizza and burgers, but my wife say's we all need to go to the dining room to experience the whole atmosphere (she went on the DCL as a kid, some16 years ago). And, her parents are taking the whole family (12) on this trip, so we need to keep them happy as well. i was looking at the menu's thinking what I was going to eat, then I saw the kids menu's and started feeling bad for them as well. I did voice my opposition to Palo's, since there is absolutely nothing on the menu that i would eat.

FYI -- I don't think your wife could have been on DCL some 16 years ago bc my understanding is that the ships were built around 1999. Perhaps she took the Big Red Boat? If so, she is in for a very pleasant surprise bc there is absolutely no comparison.

I am confident you will find many things you'd like to eat, even in the dining rooms. And if you don't like the food, you can always go for the atmosphere, then order room service!

Yes it was the Big Red Boat. I keep telling her that it is probably completely different than what she went on. She did like it though.

I totally agree - the kids menu isn't exactly what I would call
interesting. It is wonderful to know that our children can eat what they want and not be forced into making 3 choices that they don't care about.

And I agree with the Palo comment and after having lived in Italy for several years, I didn't find anything Northern Italian about the menu that even remotely resembled anything I had there. AND not to completely sound like an old hag, but I resented having to stand in line for an hour and then make snap decisions about the date and time we wanted to eat there only to find that the dates and times we wanted were already taken! SHEESH! They need to come up with a better way to deal with that.

Okay, enough griping! Here is a positive note to end on:
The food has always been fresh and delicious and the service exceptional at all the restaurants!

DGROET- you can order a chicken breast or steak everynight, even if they are not on the menu. We also went with a multigenerational family of 12 and my parents' only request is that we all eat together every night. Dining was one of the highlights of the cruise- and even my picky sister found plenty to choose from.
As for Palo's, after reviewing the menu on Dave's site we decided that we would rather opt to have brunch and not miss any of the nights in the regular dining rooms. Brunch was wonderful! We would do this again!
