I'm starting to make ADR's and am going through menu's and am starting to wonder if there is an age restriction on kids meals? One of our meals my 15 year old would probably prefer he kids option to the adult options. Would he be able to?

Quick answer: maybe

The age restriction is 10 years old.

At QS places, they have no idea if someone's watching the kids while you're in line, so order whatever you want while standing there.

At TS, like you're asking, everyone has to be there. If someone obviously over 10 is ordering a kid's meal, they might allow it, they might not. It's up to the restaurant's policies, the server, the manager to say if it's ok or not.

At AYCTE places, anyone over 10 is paying adult prices.

You won't have an issue at any Disney-owned TS. Those that aren't owned by Disney are in Epcot (Via Napoli, anything in Mexico, possibly more I'm not remembering) & various places in Disney Springs. You can search around for an exact list. At those places, they will likely make an adult portion of a child's meal (for a higher price).

The "Disney child" maximum age is 9, not 10.

Whoops! So like 9years 364 days is a child, but 10 years 0 days is an adult? :D
No, you are either a guest aged 3-9 or a guest aged 10+ for dining. Guests younger than 3 yrs old can eat off your plate and not be charged. You aren't an adult until you hit 18 and can book a hotel room or are charged as an extra adult if you have more than two persons who are 18 and older.

Yes yes, I was being a little tongue in cheek with my pedantry. :D

My kids were all juniors when we were at Disney last. They weren't old enough to book a hotel room, nor were they charged the extra person fee, but they were charged as adults when dining.

No, they were charged as guests 10+

Our twelve year old ordered off the kids menu at a few places last summer and no one said anything. It's worth a try, the worse they can do is say no. If they do, ask if you can get an 'adult' sized order of what they want.

Pretty much everyone can order a kids meal. I've heard of issues in Mexico and Italy, and at the non-Disney-owned restaurants in Animal Kingdom.

Prices are based on age at all buffet and family-style restaurants.

Say you're a very small, 9-year-old-looking 10yo? I just can't imagine my oldest a) wanting anything off of the adult menu, b) eating all that food.

We have NEVER had any issues with my now 13 year old daughter ordering off of the kid's menu anywhere in Disney...Disney owned or not. We have had Deluxe Dining for all but one of our last 7 visits or so...usually for 14+ days each...and most of the time unless it is a pay one price venue, she eats from the kid's menu. And she is planning to a lot of the time in 58 days too.

Maybe we've been lucky, but, honestly, I don't have that kinds of "luck" so I don't think so.

Thanks all! I don't mind if I have to pay more for an adult version, just want to have an option if he prefers something off kids.

If you're a small, 9 year old looking 10 year old, you're still a 10 year old. I'm not sure what your question is.

Never been told I couldn't order the kids meal just a few places have charged me more sometimes "for an adult portion" and sometimes they say it is for the bigger sized drink. The 2 times it has been up-charged (mostly grilled cheeses) I didn't notice a big difference in amount of food. They usually just charge it as the grilled turkey sandwich no turkey or whatever is closest to the grilled cheese. Also no drink even though the kids version comes with a small bottle of water, milk, or small fountain soda and the adult doesn't so I would have actually preferred the kids portion. Not the biggest deal but be aware you may have to pay for their drink and dessert if they are over 9 and those are included at TS. At QS I've never had any issues just getting the kids as is.

I believe what poster is saying is, that the 10 year old should say they are not 10 but instead 9? Not for purposes of avoiding paying the difference of a child vs. 10+ dining plan, but so they can eat off the child's menu.

Ah, well, personally, I wouldn't ever lie about my kid's age. I don't think it sets a good example. But to me, this is one of those "you do you" situations.

I couldn't either plus my daughter would too proudly pipe up NO, I'M 10. Its a common statement for her as people tell her she looks like a 2nd grader.
