Kids Meal Substitutions?

Hi, my DD is allergic to apples, and today I noticed most kids meals come with applesauce. I called and asked Disney Dining if they make substitutions and she said they would probably give her grapes. This seemed too good to be true. Grapes at a counter service? Has anyone else encountered this?

Yep they will substitute no problems. And we have gotten grapes at CS more than once. They have a large portion of grapes at Everything Pop (Pop Century resort's CS) that we got as our dessert a few times last year!

Is it just apples she is allergic too?

Yes, just apples. Its amazing what you find apple juice in. Like Welches white grape juice. What's the first ingrediant? Apple juice.

Will they do this anytime or only when a child is allergic? My DD won't touch applesauce, but LOVES grapes. Would they make the switch if I asked???

I'd love to know the answer to that, too. My DD is planning to give any applesauce she gets to her brother. But if she could have grapes instead, she could have her meal all to herself and enjoy it, too.

I have a non-applesauce eater and we were only offered carrots which was fine though some meals she ended up with double carrots. We had grapes at TS or in a large portion at CS. I also have allergies and though CS was good about making sure I got safe food they weren't greqt about subbing anything unless I was insistent.

Carrots would be nice too, but they need cut up since she's only 1. I cut a normal baby carrot into 8 slivers for her and she loves it. But obviously I can't take a knife into the park to cut up carrots.

I thought my DS was the only child in the world allergic to apples. When I tell people this, they laugh! The typical response is "no one is allergic to apples!" when they realize that we are not joking, they get it, but that is usually the first response we get!

We've never substituted at CS for my DD but we have several times at TS with no problem. Imagine, my DD actually prefers broccoli to fries!

I'm allergic to apples as well but I can tolerate them if they are thoroughly cooked. My worst food allergy though is an unusual one--green beans. The allergist was even suprised at the results....

My ds is allergic to apples but only when he eats a regular apple. He can eat applesauce, juice, whatever, with no problem. It's weird, but it's no more than swollen lips.

I have an actual food allergic dd (anaphalaxis and all) and you can request substitutions everywhere in WDW, at least we've been able to without a problem.

Yeah, believe it or not, I kind of anticipated the allergy. I delayed giving her apples until 8 months even though they were supposed to be a safe food. Shortly after she got an itchy trunk rash and we kept eliminating foods. It took over a month till we figured out it was apples. Something like applesauce for breakfast, watered down apple juice in her cup, and apple mango kiwi for lunch made for really bad uncomfortable itchy rash DD, and we figured it out. Its not the end of the world if she accidentally eats apples, but we'd just prefer for her not to be scratching her skin raw on vacation.

Minniebeth--actually my dad and brother are allergic too, but they didn't develop the allergy until puberty.
