I have a very picky daughter who also has autism. She is very visual and if a meal doesn't look right she won't even try it. I know there are other parents like me out there! I am hoping that we can start a thread of pictures of the kid's meals at the various restaurants, counter, buffet and full service. Please post pictures here if you have any! Thank you so much.

http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/kids.jpg I saw this on allearsnet. Sorry that I don't have any pictures of my own. There are two threads with food pics, but it would be tough to dig through to find the kids pics.

Hope you get a good response. Have a great trip!!!

The "kids" food usually runs along the lines of hot dogs, mac and cheese and chicken fingers. At least at the CS places. As someone above suggested, you can go to allearsnet.com and check out the menus for the places you want to eat. The kids items are on the menus, so at least you will know what your options are beforehand! Maybe you can pick where to eat based on what food is offered and would look most familiar to your little girl!!

I work with autistic youngsters and I know what you mean about food having to "look" right!!

Best of luck to you!!!

PS-The Passporter series of books has a "Doing Disney with Special Needs" book. It may be helpful. Also, you can to the the www.passporter.com website. See what their suggestions might be. It's been a helpful resource!!!:goodvibes

I saw on a another food picture thread that at some restaurants the "chicken tenders" are grilled and not breaded. That is what really worries me. DD will not eat chicken tenders that aren't breaded. I have the "Open Mouse" passporter book and it is WONDERFUL! But I would still like a visual of some of the items from the kids menus. Especially the pizza. I heard the crust has seeds and stuff in it? If that is true that isn't going to go over well. I can sort of see the kids pizza on the allears link and is might be a thumbs up for DD. Can you get it without the chidken?

Unfortunately, that allears menu is not very current (it has the dip-it meal on it which was long gone by the time I was down there last August) and according to others on the board, they've recently made changes to the pizza crusts, so that might not be helpful either. Occasionally, someone posts pics of kids meals in their reviews, so maybe they'll post them here for you.:goodvibes

You know, I would call Disney Food & Beverage and ask to speak to a manager. I'd discuss concerns and options for your child since she has specific needs.

If you have ADRs, the chefs can be alerted and plans made. I have another friend whose sister needed a very specific diet, and each WDW restaurant worked with the sister.

By the way, I hear your concerns! DS has grown out of his "chicken finger only" phase, but I was QUITE livid to find out that WDW had removed the breaded chicken fingers from its menu for a time last year. He has a severe receptive language delay, and just could NOT understand why every other restaurant in the world serves chicken fingers, but the KING of kid's places didn't.

I did call and talk to the manager at one restaurant at WDW (Olivia's) that had removed the item, and told her basically, that it was a pretty terrible idea. She said that because the had the item in their counter service restaurant, DS could still order them.

And when we were at Olivia's two weeks ago, the regular chicken fingers were back on the menu there. So they do listen to feedback!

All the best in your quest! Keep us posted, and don't be afraid to speak out to WDW. They need to hear how their food choices impact their special needs guests.

I'll bump this for you too :) I agree that there should be a separate thread on kids meal pics. My DDs are fairly picky and given there are only 1-2 options per CS places, it would be nice to know ahead of time whether to avoid one place or another. I've looked at the categorized food porn pics, but there are rarely photos of kids meals there ... the only ones I could find are Mac & Cheese, nuggets, and the uncrustable sandwiches.

For example, I would love a pic of the spaghetti & meatballs at Animal Kingdom ... is the sauce pre-mixed, can you have it on the side, etc. These things are important :goodvibes
