Kid's luggage question

My kids received small character suitcases at Christmas for our vacation this September. They are from Target and included a small backpack and pencil case. They have extendable handles and are on wheels. Has anyone ever used these on an airplane? My concern is how durable they will be. They will be used as checked-on luggage and I just don't want to get them back all busted. Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't check them. Every suitcase I have ever taken has come back with a min. of dirt on it, some have been torn or dinged and if these are what I'm thinking they are they aren't very sturdy and will definitely get squished or the corners dinged. Are they too big to use as their carry on? My DD had a little pink one that was about 18 inches and she used it as a carry on for under her seat. If they are special I wouldn't check them.
