So if a kid is not suppose to wear an American Flag shirt on Cinco de Mayo, does that mean that the school didn't say the Pledge of Allegiance that day either!?!?
Or raise the Flag?

With a 40% Mexican population in the school how could it NOT be disruptive? Would you rather the administration wait for something to happen? Then we would all be talking about how little they did to protect the kidsIf they wanted to wear them as a means of protest, then they should be allowed to do that as well, as long as they were not being disruptive to the school day.

That is absolutely INSANE. Mexican AMERICANS.... Don't we all pledge allegiance to the same flag? If you don't want to be AMERICAN give up your citizenship and move out of the country.
They played the National Anthem instead.

However, then going by the same thought of they shouldn't wear the flag, then they shouldn't play the National Anthem either. It falls into the same line of thinking.
To me this was not done because they are patriatic . to me it smells like rascism.
The courts have ruled time and time again that students in school have no rights.Would you rather throw away the first amendment right to free speech because of what might happen?
Regardless of their motives, the clothes were within the dress code of the school. If they did nothing but wear patriotic American clothings, then they did NOTHING wrong and the Asst Principle should be fired!

So, in an American school, wearing clothes showing an American flag is racist??![]()

You're probably right. I'm guessing these "patriotic" youth decided to get their boxers in a bunch over the day and picked the flag t-shirts as their protest. I'm sure they have been inspired by the debate regarding the Arizona immigration law and protests. This was their little counter-speech.
Dismissing the students was the wrong approach, though. It only emboldened the little twerps.
While it certainly is possible that the boys wore their US flag shirts as some sort of statement about the Arizona immigration law, that is their right. That doesn't necessarily mean their actions were incendiary - they may not have had any intent other than to make a quiet statement. Given the current climate regarding the immigration issue, one could just as easily argue that perhaps the Mexican-American students were the ones being incendiary. The report I read said that hundreds of the Mexican-American students were sporting the colors of the Mexican flag, had the Mexican flag painted on their faces, etc. Without being there, we can't know if they did this just because it was Cinco de Mayo or if they were, shall we say, "more enthusiastic" than usual about the holiday as a means of protesting the Arizona law. It could go either way.
It's a sad day when Americans are reprimanded for wearing shirts with their own flag on it. What the hell is going on in this country?![]()
