I am a nervous wreck! My DS12 may have to have surgery on both feet, and should in be in pretty good shape for our trip, but I am preparing for the worst, should it happen. Is there anywhere to rent wheelchairs at DL? Or will I need to bring his? Can I check it as luggage at the airport? How are the crowds with kids in wheelchairs? Is he going to be super frustrated? How does he progress through the lines for the rides? I have so much to consider now....

you can get wheel chairs from just across the street from disneyland, or dekerts, and yes in the park to. :)

If your daughter still needs a wheelchair for your visit, you need to go to City Hall and get a special assistance pass. This pass will allow her and a certain number of people to board through handicapped entrances (usually the exits in DL) where the queues are not big enough for handicapped accessibility.

Guests utilizing wheelchairs while visiting the Disneyland Resort do not need to obtain a Guest Assistance Card, unless they require additional assistance above and beyond Accessible Entrance to an Attraction.

In Disneyland Park, simply speak to an Attraction Host or Hostess to obtain boarding instructions.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, all Attraction queues at Disney's California Adventure Park are wheelchair accessible.

My family is well versed in traversing both Disneyland and WDW with a wheelchair. At various points someone has been there shortly following surgery and we have one person whose had multiple foot surgeries that failed to fix the problem (and actually made it worse).

You will be able to wheel your DD to the departure gate and when the time comes, you will board the plane and then they will put the wheelchair on the plane. I don't think it's treated as one of your luggage items, but I'm not totally sure.

When necessary, we've just always rented the wheelchair from the same area as stroller rental. We've never needed to get the special assistance pass as it's usually pretty clear that the wheelchair constitute special needs. Most of the newer attractions have wheelchair friendly queues(especially DCA), but in Disneyland itself, the handicapped entrance is usually at or near the exit to the attraction. Just check with a CM if you have any questions.

If your DS has 2 non-working feet, I would plan to bring his chair from home. Yes you can rent from the park, but a few things to think about are getting around the airport and to and from the hotel.
I "think" a wheel chair on most airlines would be the same as a stroller- wheel down the gang way, leave the stroller/chair, board the plane, stroller/chair gets put under plane and will be waiting for you in a similar location when you get to your destination.

FWIW, Even if you bring your chair, I would still rent an ECV as it will be a LONG trip to have to hand wheel the chair through the park. The EVC are so much easier for everyone as no one is worn out pushing or wheeling. Deckerts has a very good rate and they deliver it to your hotel and pick up. As a previous poster said, the walk to and from the park will require a chair just as much (if not more coming back after hours) outside the park as in.
If you have the handicap pass from ity Hall or the key to the EVC, you can enter the handicap entrance with up to 5 additional guests. On Space Mountain, it is a much shorter distance that the regular que line. And Indy will be murder trying to wheel a chair even if you are going through the handicap entrance. It is not very smooth and has alot of inclines.
In Fantasyland, as most of those rides were built before the ADA, they have a little gate that is just steps from the ride. You cannot que with a wheelchair.
I hope all goes well so this will not be an issue. But incase you need it,. I would rent an EVC
