Kids going from Edge to Oceaneer and back?

When we booked our cruise for 2017, the the DCL employee told us that since our son was going to be 11, he could check himself out of the tween club and go to the Oceaneer Lab, and vice versa.

The videos we've watched about the clubs contradict that -- he can be in one or the other, but not go between them.

Which is right?

Thanks!

He can go back and forth between the two. It used to be he would have to pick one, but now they allow that flexibility.

If you give him the ability to self-check, he can check in and out of the Oceaneer Club and Lab. The Edge is for 11-13 year old's and doesn't actually have a check in - the kids get a sticker on their KTTW when they first sign in. He can definitely go into both of them. We just cruised in march and our 12 year old did them both.

Okay. So the videos we were watching were out of date. Cool. Thanks!

Now to get the hard-headed and forgetful child to remember that he has to at LEAST leave us a note in the cabin when he does move from one to the other? Mr. Drauer, how did you handle that?

we bring a dry erase board for the door where we put down where the family is at, and DD has to keep a wave phone with her at all times to check in.

Navigator app is mighty handy, too. And they are much more likely to be carrying their phones to take pictures than the wave phone.

I'm not sure if he'll have his own phone at that point. (He's nine now, will be 11 when we sail.)

My son will be 11 also when we cruise! My daughter is 9, so I'm glad my son can split his time and keep tabs on his little sister.

We gave our 11 year old a wave phone to tell us when he moved from one place to another. For our trip in August we are dropping an old iPhone on him to use the nav app. The rule is: if he doesn't let us know he goes to Oceaneer WITHOUT self checkout privileges. That rule keeps him on the ball.

Where to the kids put their wave phones to keep them safe? They look too big for pockets. Did anyone get fanny packs for their kids? Any other ideas?

That's what we'll be telling our son.

Yep, my DD uses her ipod touch to text me while we are on the ship. It works great since she uses it as her camera too.

How are you able to text on the ships? We'll be going on the Magic...last time we were on it, pre-reimagining, was 2012. Do they have wifi now?!

Thanks,
Karina

Download the DCL Navigator app to your phones. It's free to use the Navigator app on the ship's wifi and the app allows you to text other people on the ship.

Seriously?! Omg. This is the best news ever! Thanks! My DD will be thrilled! This looks fantastic. :) Thank you!

Just to be clear, you can only text other cruisers on the ship who also have the Navigator app. You can set it up after you board the ship. If your DD makes friends on the ship, they can share an id number that allows them to text back and forth using the Navigator app.
