I know this has been asked a million times, but where have you bought good fannie packs for your kids. I happened to check Target last night, and couldn't find any, not even with the Coleman kids camping stuff. Any suggestions?

We've gotten a few cute Mickey fanny packs at WDW, the latest one at Mission Space (Astronaut Mickey). Also got one at AK (Safari Mickey) and a standard blue cloth one with Mickey. They don't hold a lot, but will hold the autograph book and pen and some quarters and pennies.

My (skinny) 5 & 7 year olds use adult ones that are adjustable all the way down. This works fine for them. They have the kind that holds a water bottle, but only has a tiny zipper pocket for other stuff. We got them at Target

I bought mine at Oriental Trading Company. www.oriental.com I had to buy a dozen, but for the price of $14.95, I thought it was good. I won't have to worry when they lose one.

What a great idea! The denim and canvas ones can be personalized -- terrific pre-vacation activity. I have 3 kids -- 14.95 for a dozen? If they mess one up, we have plenty more!

Thanks for the great tip!!!

Were the one's from Oriental Trading good quality though? My friend bought some bags from there one and the quality was awful.

I got mine from Coleman. http://www.coleman.com/coleman/c4k2k/

Look at the gearguide listed at the top. Then look at soft coolers and water carriers. The ones I bought were the Deluxe H2O fannypacks. They are big enough to hold an autograph book, big pen, disposible camera, pressed penny book, and some snacks. plus they come with a water bottle.

Wow.... we needed one more for our DS (5) for our next trip and went to the mall this weekend and paid $15 for a very basic, albeit heavy-duty one at the camping/hiking store. No water bottle or bottle holder. I think I will be returning it and getting the dozen from Oriental trading... will save the other 11 for the goodie bags for his birthday (two days after we return from WDW!).....Thanks for the tip!!

Although I am the one who recommended the Oriental Trading Company for fanny packs, I now take it back. Both my kids' fanny packs had broken zippers before the end of the first day, so I ended up buys WDW fanny packs the first day there. I guess you really do get what you pay for. :( I hope other people had better luck with these than I did.

I actually just got one for myself from a leather store at the mall. It is a Swiss Army one, it is really nice. This is the first time I've used a fanny pack!!

I was wondering, how was the one you bought at WDW? How much did it cost??

Thanks!! Sorry about your OT ones, but I'm glad for the info!!

Check your local thrift store or resale shop. Every child size one I have bought came from either of these and usually cost me less than $1. If the kids break the zipper, and they have, of don't like the design next year I am not out anything since they were so cheap.

A funny story about my son's first fanny pack. He was 4 and had a Ninja turtle fanny pack, now this was long after they were popular but he really liked it. Well we were in MGM getting character autographs and Aladin noticed his fanny pack and made a big production about how much he liked it. (He was probably the right age to have been crazy about them as a kid) He even drew the most amazing Ninja Turtle in DS's autograph book. Bet that's a one of a kind!

My kids were very happy with their WDW fanny packs. DS10 got one with pockets. DD8 got one with embroidered fireworks & built in light bulbs where the fireworks really light up. They were in the $15-$16 range. Not OT prices, but the zippers work & they got a useful souvenier out of it.

I was the OP on this post and I ended up ordering two different ones from online. It's so hard to tell what size they are and how good they are. We ended up using some from Ebags.com, they are the only ones I'd ever found where the strap was small enough to fit their waist. They were just the right size for the autograph book, pen and camera, that filled them up. I'm glad I ordered two, because I ordered from a hiking type store, and when they got here they were sooooooooooo small, they would fit a pack of gum and nothing else LOL. I laughed so hard when I opened them I almost dropped them on the floor.

Just wanted to add two cents- I got two fanny packs from a outdoor/camping store called REI in southern CA. They are durable and made by the backpack company Jansport. They do not have bottle holders but you can purchase bottles that can attach to belts at the 99c store. The packs were $13 and much more durable than any "kids" pack I have seen.:bounce:
