My DS wears prescription eyeglasses and I'm concerned about the lack of sun protection for him. Around here he wore baseball caps outside in the summer but I still worry about the sun being damaging and also it being uncomfortable for him.

Does anyone know if they make some kind of clip-on sunglasses for children's glasses? Or should we just invest in Rx sunglasses for him? He's 9 and got his glasses about a year ago.

We purchased some for my son last year at Rite Aid, of all places. You might try calling around to save running around!

We got them at Walmart for dd. They're cool because they kind of stretch on a spring and then cling to the glasses instead of clipping on. Dd likes them...now if I could only find them. :confused3 I think we'll be buying another pair.

We got a really good pair of them when DS was quite little but the only place we could find then was our opthamologist office. They were very much worth it. Now we have contacts so much easier to just get sun glasses.

We have gotten them in the kiosks at the mall. However, have gone with transition lenses that were recently approved for children's glasses. (Impact resistant.) Anyhow, they are great, the only time they don't change is in the car tho...just fyi.

I bought the clip on sunglasses at Target Optical for about $20 a few years ago. They had several sizes ans shapes to choose from-I think they had to order them in but it took just a few days. My oldest son no longer needs to wear glasses. So I sold the clip for about $3 at my garage sale last summer. This winter my other son got glasses. I guess I am going back to Target.

I just bought a pair from Walmart last week. They had several sizes and styles. They are also the ones with the spring in the middle and they fit perfectly on my glasses. Love them!

I would consider getting him "Transitions" lenses the next time you purchase new lenses for him. They automatically darken when he goes outside. I'm sure that his eyecare provider gave him polycarbonate lenses, which have ultraviolet protection in them automatically, he just needs a tint for comfort, but the uv protection is actually what protects him. Most likely he has it already. Clip ons are ok, children just tend to lose them easier.

Good luck!

My DDs (7 & 5) just got glasses last month. We went to Target today, and their clip on selection was pitiful. The smallest clip ons they had were too big for either pair of glasses. I'm hoping I'll have more success at Wal-Mart tomorrow.

Another vote for the transitions lenses. We got them for DS last fall after seeing a neighbor girl with them (DS needed new glasses anyway).

Thanks for all the replies! We are going this Thursday for eye exams so I will speak with our doctor to see what he recommends.

In the meantime I went to Walmart and found the clip-on type there easily. They had lots of difference sizes and shapes and the spring across the bridge make them fit perfectly. I know his vision is either the same or has not changed much so we'll use his current glasses with the clips for the trip next week and look into other options when we get back.

Does anyone have Transitions for their kids now? I've never seen kid's glasses made from them and wonder how quickly they really do change over?

Both my DD, ages 6 and 10 have transition lenses and love them. They do change fairly quickly, however, they do not change in the car. (We have tinted windows in the van.) I think they told me that for when they learn to drive. However, my 10 year old just got contacts. Doesn't hurt to ask and I got the transition lenses for their glasses at Wal Mart's optical shop.
