Buy! I can't sew

Did you make these or buy them? They are cute!
Quick question for all of you.
I am making my daughter a pillow case shirt (suppose to be a dress but I thought I got a little too tight across mid-section) and I am going to make some of the bloomer shorts like these:

Instead of doing the elastic around the leg, how do you think it would be/look to do a casing instead and run the ribbon through the leg like the pillowcase dress? I hope that makes sense.
I think that would look really cute. Do you plan on tying it then? I would only worry that it might come untied and fall out. But, if you tied it really good, that should be a problem, or you could tack it in the middle so you wouldn't lose it if it came untied.
I think it's a GREAT idea! It would look soo cute! If you needed you could blow up the names a little to take up more room on the dress, and that would make it easier to follow with the machine too!Lovin' all the outfits that have been posted but wanted to add something to the autograph pillowcase dress.
I looove the idea that you all have had but wanted to offer a different option as well. When my kids get their autographs from characters and I make their scrapbook, I trace the autograph on a different page that I can put into the scrapbook without tearing out the original. My idea would be to trace the autographs onto the pillowcase dress and then embroidery over it in the different colors that go with that character. I know you would most likely have to have a steady hand but how cute would a pillowcase dress be with embroided autographs on it! Am I just dreaming that this might actually work?
I know this wasn't directed to me; but if you look closely at the waistband, you can see how it is done. Determine how large the waist is and cut a length of elastic that length, plus 1 inch. Bring the ends of your elastic together, overlapping that inch, and sew ends together. Your elastic/waistband is now the proper size. Then you decide how long the skirt/tutu needs to be and double that measurement and again add 1 inch. Then simply cut your tulle to that length. Now I can't see how wide each strip is, but I'm guessing 6 - 8 inches. Then, fold each strip in half lengthwise and tie it to the elastic band. Don't tie like you would a bow though. Fold the tulle in half and put the loop part just below the waist. Then pull the ends down through the loop. I hope that makes sense. Just keep doing this until you're done. To make it fuller, just bunch the tulle closer together.
Hope this helps.
Buy! I can't sewI wish I could but just cant
I think I would do the elastic and then just pin or sew bows at the sides. Doing the casing and then the button holes for the ribbons to peek out of and then tying them everytime they come undone seems like extra work and not so much joy. I am all about easy and breezy!

It did help...thanks, but I must tell you I HATEthat you could just tell that by looking at it. I am so challenged I would never have been able to figure that out.
Did you make this? I love it! I know Lydia would too!
that outfit is adorable!!! i need to stop looking at this thread. we are leaving in less than 48 hours and i started on another outfit last night, lol!!
So, how would I go about figuring how much tulle I would need? Also, where can I find the tulle that's not scratchy? Isn't there such a thing? If so, my Walmart doesn't have any!
I'm sorry you're not happy with it. Is it really that bad? Could something be done to it to make it more attractive?I'm really bummed![]()
I finally got the JoJo's Circus set in the mail today from the Ebay seller that made my Nightmare Before Christmas set. I don't like it. It's not attractive and it does not live up to the same quality of the first set I purchased. I won't let my dd wear it. It's really bad.![]()
Now I'm out $80.00 and still in need of a JoJo outfit.
Good luck! I'll be there shortly so you can teach me to smockAlright ladies,
Well I haven't found time to sew since before our trip in March. I have been assembling things for a bit now and will attempt to sew them up next week. I am going to do a twirl skirt out of Beach theme fabric with swimsuits all over it, and I will attempt my first complicated applique (at least complicated for me) of a girl in a bathing suit, or a mermaid, depending on which one dd6 wants. I also have some patriotic fabric that I am going to alter a jumper pattern with. Oh, and I still have to finish dd's smocked easter dress

I love checking this thread each day, you all keep me motivated.
Whoo! Can't wait to see the finished projects!!I just wanted to come on here and "toot my own horn" as dh would say. Yesterday I learned how to use my machine, and today I finished three pillowcase dresses (actually 1 dress & 2 tops) and one circle skirt!!! I even changed the bobbin with matching colored thread for everything!!!!!! I will post pics later, cause I'm just so thrilled that I actually finished something!!!
Cute! Cute! Cute!!Now, how much? I couldn't really tell you that. However, didn't someone answer that in a previous post? Also, I don't work much with tulle (although after seeing all these cute outfits, I may well start), but wouldn't you want a nylon tulle? Or are they all nylon?Generally, I think the finer the tulle (the smaller the holes) the softer, less scratchy it is. Again, though, I haven't really used it, so I could be 100% wrong on this. Also, I know my local JoAnn's has lots of different tulle and will be getting more in for Halloween and the holidays.
THRIFT STORE FIND
Okay, this is an Old Navy jumper I bought for $1 at the local thrift store. It is in very good condition with the exception of a few marker spots right on the front, but I knew I could hide those. Anyway, this is the finished product. I'm pretty pleased overall, but of course, there are some things I'd do differently next time. This was a great way to practice applique without a big investment. I like the idea of a challenge; so if anyone wants to try a thrift store/yard sale challenge in addition to the Disney-MGM challenge, please share your results with us.

Thanks for the inspiration everyone.
Check Hobby Lobby if you have one near you. I saw the finer tulle there last weekend. So, how would I go about figuring how much tulle I would need? Also, where can I find the tulle that's not scratchy? Isn't there such a thing? If so, my Walmart doesn't have any!
I am so making one of these! I saw one in a boutique the other day that cost a small fortune. They doubled the tulle so the fold was at the bottom (it was sewn) and scattered silk flower petals in the fold. It was so pretty!I made Alexis a "ballerina" tutu, out of my extra tulle. It was one of the no sew skirts and took a grand total of about 10 minutes, maybe 15.

I'm glad you got it to work. The outfit is so adorable (and so is your DD!)Okay, I'm going to try this one more time. Thanks for the great help I received in trying to figure out how to post pictures in the correct size. Here is a picture of my DD last year at MGM. The outfit has Minnie with star sunglasses on it so she looks like a movie star. One fabric used on the skirt looks like black and white film strips. Hopefully, this will work this time!

I'd like to see it. Are you comfortable posting a picture?
I'm in love with a Jo Jo outfit that's been on eBay. We're not going soon, so it's not something I need, but the skirt and applique are TDF!
If nothing else, can you list it on eBay as a custom resell?
