I finally made something I can post. Someone posted a bow making website a few pages back and they had these adorable bows and I just had to try these! Of course the only thing I can make is bows and my daughter says she is too old!

If it's a small bow or clippie, I like the alligator single prong. But for large bows, I use the french barrettes.
How long are the pieces? I usually make mine 3" long at the most, longer than that seems to droop. I have never used the fabric stiffner until tonight, but I love it! It is the same one that was recommended. Great idea hanging them upside down!

Here is my first try at Korkers. I like them, but they kind of lay over and aren't real perky. Any tips? I did some ribbon with the starch, and some without. The ribbon without, seems a little limper. So I did 90 percent of them with it. I used 36 pieces in each one. I followed the directions on one of the websites you all provided.
I heard of people using one of the wood burning tools with the flat tip to burn the ends of ribbon. Was that on this board? Also you can use a lighter but,eeeeek If it was one end I would do that but, surely after a few I would burn myself.

design_mom, It took me about 45 minutes to figure out the button hole. What kind of machine do you have. I have a cheapo brother. It may be easier for one of us with a machine similar to yours to explain it than going by the book. My instruction book sucked.
That is really cute! Where did you buy your ribbon? We have NO good sources of ribbon around here. It's cute! I think it would depend on the bow. If it has the twisted knot, it might be a little harder. If the center is flat, you could probably easily attach the bottlecaps.I am soooo not crafty so I bought an outfit on ebay for my dd's! I got one of them today so I thought I would share a pic of it!
Also, I can't make things but found disney bottlecaps at the scrapbook store so I bought them. Do you think I could put them on bows I buy?

Hi Everybody! Newbie here. You've all shared such FABULOUS work! I'm glad I found all of you.
CASTLE CREATIONS-- You mentioned somewhere near the beginning of this this thread that you hate sewing with a serger. What works best for you when finishing your edges? I too hate sewing with a serger--too risky. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I like having the freedom to unpick seams if need be. Still though, I'm a novice seamstress, and I hate putting time, love, and $$ into an outfit that unravels at the seams after just a wash or two.
Welcome to the boards!! You will soon be addicted like the rest of us. I tried using a serger, and worked on a project for hours and hours, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I read the manual over and over and kept changing the settings, called the help line, looked online, and nothing. Only to finally have a friend come over to help me, and she took one look and said the last little dial, was broken, 
So, basically all that work for nothing. After that, I stuck to what worked for me, my regular machine, and if I need a fish line hem, or something I can't do on the machine, I hire someone else to do it. 
). Early in the relationship with this serger, the machine and I reached an agreement. I would not ask it to do anything but finish seams, and it agreed to do just that and not die, or eat my fabric. So far it is working, I have even managed to figure out how to change the thread on it. (once it ran out-I won't change the color-too chicken).
I still have the applique to do on the second shirt, and I'll post a pic after I get it done in the next few days. The outfits are being turned over to my mom to sew together.
