I finally made something I can post. Someone posted a bow making website a few pages back and they had these adorable bows and I just had to try these! Of course the only thing I can make is bows and my daughter says she is too old!

If you like making those bows, post them on ebay! give out your id.... I love the one you just made!! :goodvibes Or you could PM me :rolleyes1

:goodvibes Mono-Rail - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Your explanation does make sense and the picture really helped. I am gonna give that a try and see if I can get better. If I end up with anything good I will post a picture. Thanks again!!!
I'm glad I could help. :) Making and stitching the appliques is my favorite part! :cloud9:

Thanks for the pictures and information. I have the 270d and I am glad you gave out the details on your satin stitching. I have been playing with mine and I haven't liked any of them so far, but yours looks great so I will go back and try that. Are you using the embroidery thread or regular thread to satin stitch?
The satin stitch info is on page 97 of the manual. I use regular sewing thread. :)

Very VERY impressive! No wonder you would never selll your outfits! So much detail. Congratulations!
Y'all are just making me feel so good! I like confidence boosters! Thanks! :)

I am soooo not crafty so I bought an outfit on ebay for my dd's! I got one of them today so I thought I would share a pic of it!

Also, I can't make things but found disney bottlecaps at the scrapbook store so I bought them. Do you think I could put them on bows I buy?

Looks great! I bought that same pattern to make outfits for my son. He is 11 mos now and wears 18 mos clothes. We aren't going until he is 21 months, so I hope the larger size still fits him. I am a basic sewer, was the pattern easy to do?

Jajone, it was pretty easy. I ended up getting some pinking shears (cheap JoAnn ones with a 40% coupon) after I was done and going back over the seams with it. Also try and get thin interfacing. The stuff I got was kind of thick but, I was in a hurry when I got it and wasn't thinking. Next time I will get the thinest I can find. Otherwise it is easy to sew. I am a beginner too. I did not do the snap crotch but, you may want to at his age.

My Ds was wearing 18 mos at 1 year too. I would say if your Ds is usually in the larger percentile height wise you will be fine. If it ends up being a little big you could always take it in a little. My Ds is 21 mos now and the size 4 fits him perfectly he is always in the 98-99% on height.

Wow--I've only missed a few days but all you crafty ladies have been so busy! Great work everyone!

hi everyone!!

of course now i have to try a bow!!! lol!!!

which of those clips works best, alligator, single prong or double prong????? so many choices!!!

thanks, wendy
If it's a small bow or clippie, I like the alligator single prong. But for large bows, I use the french barrettes.

I like alligator clips the best. My DD is 2.5 and I can use the alligator with or without a rubberband in her hair. The french clips would slide out of her hair without the rubberband.

How long are the pieces? I usually make mine 3" long at the most, longer than that seems to droop. I have never used the fabric stiffner until tonight, but I love it! It is the same one that was recommended. Great idea hanging them upside down!:goodvibes

Love this bow! Totally cute!

Here is my first try at Korkers. I like them, but they kind of lay over and aren't real perky. Any tips? I did some ribbon with the starch, and some without. The ribbon without, seems a little limper. So I did 90 percent of them with it. I used 36 pieces in each one. I followed the directions on one of the websites you all provided.

Wow!!

I think these look great! I like all of the different patterns together!

I heard of people using one of the wood burning tools with the flat tip to burn the ends of ribbon. Was that on this board? Also you can use a lighter but, :scared1: eeeeek If it was one end I would do that but, surely after a few I would burn myself.

Thanks for the comments on my outfit. I forgot to add I am working on a hat to match it.

design_mom, It took me about 45 minutes to figure out the button hole. What kind of machine do you have. I have a cheapo brother. It may be easier for one of us with a machine similar to yours to explain it than going by the book. My instruction book sucked.

That is really cute! Where did you buy your ribbon? We have NO good sources of ribbon around here. I know I can buy from eBay, but I like to actually see and touch what I'm buying.

CastleCreations I thought I quoted you too, but I missed it somehow. I like your korker bows too.

It's cute! I think it would depend on the bow. If it has the twisted knot, it might be a little harder. If the center is flat, you could probably easily attach the bottlecaps.

It also depends on the hair. If the girl's hair is silky or thin alligator clips are great!

I know most of you have girls older than mine, but for babies with fine, barely there hair snap clips work well. I found some teeny tiny ones and they hold her hair well. She has long hair in the front and top but not much on the sides. The alligator clips won't work for her yet because they flip.

Everything except the black came from Michael's. the black I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I won't buy ribbon from ebay either, just for that reason! I do pretty good at Michael's most of the time and I do have a bit of a ribbon obsession!

Thank you! I'm definetly going to try it again. I was trying to stitch around a Jesse I cut out, and I couldnt get it to look the way I needed it to. :goodvibes

Hi Everybody! Newbie here. You've all shared such FABULOUS work! I'm glad I found all of you.

CASTLE CREATIONS-- You mentioned somewhere near the beginning of this this thread that you hate sewing with a serger. What works best for you when finishing your edges? I too hate sewing with a serger--too risky. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I like having the freedom to unpick seams if need be. Still though, I'm a novice seamstress, and I hate putting time, love, and $$ into an outfit that unravels at the seams after just a wash or two. :flower3:

Hi :wave2: Welcome to the boards!! You will soon be addicted like the rest of us. I tried using a serger, and worked on a project for hours and hours, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I read the manual over and over and kept changing the settings, called the help line, looked online, and nothing. Only to finally have a friend come over to help me, and she took one look and said the last little dial, was broken, So, basically all that work for nothing. After that, I stuck to what worked for me, my regular machine, and if I need a fish line hem, or something I can't do on the machine, I hire someone else to do it. :rotfl:

I don't like serging either. They kind of scare me, I'm afraid I'll put the material too far or something and it will slice right through the material! Anyways, I use the zig-zag to finish my hems. That zig-zag stitch is my friend!!!

I have a serger. I will admit it is NOT my friend. (I have killed several sergers:rolleyes1 ). Early in the relationship with this serger, the machine and I reached an agreement. I would not ask it to do anything but finish seams, and it agreed to do just that and not die, or eat my fabric. :goodvibes So far it is working, I have even managed to figure out how to change the thread on it. (once it ran out-I won't change the color-too chicken).

Anyway, before this "agreement" I would either zigzag the seam, pink it or do a "french" seam(which I would never be able to explain).

I'm turning the Wiggles outfits over to my mom. I like doing the appliques, but I hate sewing the outfits together. :guilty: I still have the applique to do on the second shirt, and I'll post a pic after I get it done in the next few days. The outfits are being turned over to my mom to sew together. :duck:

I like sewing dresses, and I wish I had made these dresses. I wanted the pants to have ruffles so that is why I went with pants and a shirt. In the future, I'm sticking to skirts and dresses.

The main reason my mom is finishing these is because I'm anxious to get started on Tinky Winky (teletubbies) dresses. :bitelip:
