It's funny that you posted this. I have a Bernina Artista 180 that I bought several years ago. Today I called about lessons to use the machine. I've never even opened the embroidery package that came with it. Howeve,after seeing all of the precious outfits here,I want to start using the embroidery features on the machine. The embroidery is great for baby outfits and gifts. I had an old Janome embroidery machine that I used to make tons of both wedding and baby gifts. My Bernina will take images from the internet and digitize them to embroider. If the embroidery features work as well as the straight sewing does,I'll be a very happy camper.
To answer your question,I'd get a machine that does both.

A machine that does both makes sense for me. I wouldn't be doing large volumes of sewing/embroidery at the same time, so I wouldn't need to be working on one while the other is going. I haven't really researched the dual machines, so I'll check that out soon. I am about to start a large sewing/decorating project for DD's room so if I'm going to get a new machine I want to do it soon. Once I finish that, I'm going to try some bloomer sets, dresses and bubbles, so I want a machine that makes buttonholes easy!

We don't have a Disney tripped planned for at least 1-2 years, so I can't contribute to the Disney boutique clothes yet (just taking lots of notes and stocking up on fabric!), but I love all of the outfits being posted and I appreciate all of the tips and advice everyone is giving.

Hi, someone asked me about the minnie head. I do that the same as the complicated appliques. I find a Minnie head to trace. If you don't have one, look on the DiSign boards. There are tons of them. Anywho, I lay my fusible web on top of the design. I use a pencil and trace it, right on the fusible web. Then I cut it out leaving a quarter inch all the way around it. This by no means has to be exact. Then iron the roughly cut Mickey head onto your fabric. Then take the time to cut on the lines and cut it out. Then iron it onto your outfit. I then take fusible interfacing and iron a piece on the inside of the garment behind the mickey head. This will give it some stablility when sewing it down. Then I use a wide satin stitch that is very close together, and just stitch around it.

I have my backyardigans outfit all cut out and ready to sew. I am just trying to figure out how to finish the edges. Any tips from the sewers. Should I just go buy some pinking shears or just zig zag? Which is better to zig zag before you seam or after?

Have you looked at scrapbook embellishments at your local craft store? I know I've seen some Mickey-head shaped buttons there (but they were in weird colors). I think I've also seen some swirly Mickey-head metal thingies. (I think they were technically called paper clips, but they didn't look like they'd be very good at holding papers.) Maybe you could find something there.

has anyone included the disney croc or decorated the little girls mary janes to go with an outfit for disney? i know they could walk all day in these as they do at home - im tempted especially to get the black/red ones for my almost 3 yo nephew for our trip in september - he is almost into a 9 - should i go with the 8/9? i hear they run big????? thanks, wendy

I don't know about other folks, but DS4, who is almost a size 9 is in between sizes on the Crocs, the 8/9 is pretty snug, the 10/11 is huge. I decided to wait on the Crocs until his foot grows a bit more. He has a pair of Airwalks which we both love for right now.

Hi - thanks for letting me know that - my tim has a chubby foot, so maybe we need to wait too - he loves his star spangled airwalks from last year but they are getting pretty snug - hopefully they will last through this summer too - they seem to hold up pretty well!!! he calls them his crocs anyway!!! so cute!!! nana on the designs boards just made me the cutest iron on for him that has stars in the decorations!!!

We bought the Disney Crocs in Disney last month and my daughter had to have them...We got a size bigger..For the $32 we paid I wanted them to fit her for a full year.. Hehe... I would buy in advance and save some$$$...

Amie and Wendy -- I'm not sure if you've heard but the Airwalk "crocs" have been recalled. (My DD had a pair, too.) If you take them back to Payless they'll give you a refund or an exchange. I got the refund because my Payless doesn't have the new-and-improved versions in stock yet. I was surprised because they gave me the full purchase price, including tax, even though the shoes had obviously been worn.

For all those ladies that make these amazing outfits, can you give a newbie an idea of what patterns you use. I love the pants with the ruffles on the bottom and the halter tops. I am taking a sewing class and the 3rd class is bring a pattern with you and we'll try to make the item. I would love to make a sundress or a halter top with pants outfit for our disney trip for DD.

Today I looked at the Brother Inno-vis 2500D. It's a super nice machine and has 154 Disney embroidery designs built-in. Cost 4400.00 for machine + digitizing software(for original designs).

Also looked at the Singer Singer XL6000 Quantum. Great machine. but no Disney. However with the digitizing software I can download Disney designs,save them to an external drive and the machine will convert the design to embroider. 3795.00 .for machine and digitizing software.

Even thought the prices aren't cheap,others that I looked at sold for up to 8500.00=No way.

Do any of you have one of these machines or know someone who does?
Both have received excellent reviews,however,I'd like to hear from someone that I kind of know.

I don't have either of these machines, however I have a couple ideas for you. I have a babylock decorator's choice machine. It is fabulous. I just can't even tell you how much I love it. It is not an embroidery machine but does hundred's of decorative stitches. I have been looking at the babylock elegante embroidery machine. It is around $8,000, but I was offered a floor model at half that. I suggest you look at a specialty sewing store that offers babylocks and bernina as oppossed to brothers. They have tons of cartridges that are disney, also the elegante allows you to download computer images directly on to it. It is a fabulous machine. I just thought you may want to look at them before you decide. If it were up to me I would go with a babylock.

Have you looked at Viking Husqvarna machines? There is a really nice one thats a Designer I, its around $3500 and you don't need software to download designs onto your machine. You can download them off of the web and put them on a usb stick straight to your machine. You can purchase the 4D software if you want to do custom designs and that runs about $350 for basic and I think around $1300 for full studio of stuff.

I purchased a Viking Rose through resale. It cost me $400 and another $200 to be able to put designs from the web onto my machine. I figure for $600 its a good starter machine and I'm not sure how much I'll be into the sewing. You can get one of these off ebay for around the same price or less if you want to go with a starter machine. I can always sell my Rose later and use that money towards a designer I if I want later.

As I was posting these photos, I'm thinking whew...he's done, finally. Now I noticed that his socks are missing the red and blue stripes. I guess I'm not done, after all
and his little dots on his cheeks...
Anyway I made a simple twirl skirt, and the halter has a shirred back. I like this style because it's a little more form fitting. The halter, came out okay. It looks like it's missing something.

We have the exact same problem. DS is a size 9 and still wears his 8/9 crocs. My mom wanted to buy him Disney crocs for his 3rd Bday and the trip but he is just about out of the 8/9 and 10/11 is huge on him. We have over 3 months until the trip so I hope his feet grow. I won't buy the bigger ones yet because last week he fell running in the house (I always tell them not to run inside the house ) with the stupid crocs on and hit his head on his bedroom door and got a huge goose egg. Needless to say it scared me to death.

We have the Disney ped180. It was discontinued not long ago for the $4000 one you were looking at. I think it was around $1000. I know I've seen them on EBAY, but you may find some at Sewing Machine stores. You can also get the attatchement to download your own designs. I think it's around $200.

Hi, the bows are pretty easy to make. It's fun making them yourself. I think someone posted a link to make the bows. It's pretty informative and has tons of styles and pictures. If anyone has the link, can you post it again. Thanks...
