Just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions. Hopefully I will be back and checking in more often now we have been so busy became foster parents and our last placements were a handful. We are getting a 2 and half year old foster daughter and I am going to have fun dressing her while she is with us. :) Does anyone know where if anywhere I can find Disney tshirt material? I am going to make a baby sling.

I got tee shirt material on :wizard: for a pretty reasonable price. That's the only place I've seen it though.

I don't know about t-shirt material, I just wanted to say hey! I've missed you around here! I asked about you many pages back wondering how our DS?'s surgery went, but I guess no one had heard from you. I've thought about you several times - especially when I've driven through Gladewater (I was just there the other day at the bow shop). I wondered about you the other day when I got a mailer from Sharman's (since you're the one that introduced me to that place! Now I'm really tempted to buy an embroidery machine from there!) How are things going for you?

It's not that hard, is it? I was so scared of doing it, but it's so easy!!!! Let us see when you're done!

It's more time consuming than I anticipated. But then again, I'm sewing a little slowly to make sure that it is stretched and straight. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. it is for the dainty designs corset, my MIL is working on her peasant top. When we're done I think we'll both work on the layered tulle skirt to get it done. I hope we can finish tonight.

No-sew Fleece Tie Blankets.
Wow, I have made 8 of these in the last month.

I think someone asked how. So here are some step by step photos.
This one is made with Ariel Fleece and blue fleece. I used 1 1/2 yards for my niece who is 2 years old.

If you are making it for an adult use 2 yards. Or buy one of the precut rolls they have at the Fabric Store.

Cut off the salvage edges

Cut off 6 inch squares off the corners

Cut 6 inch strips every inch

Sit somewhere comfortable and tie!
Here is the results

I also sewed a pillow case for my Sister's StepDaughter. My sister made her a tie blanket.

DH just called, he got our Christmas tree FOR $5!!!! That is SO awesome!:woohoo:

I made my first tie fleece blanket this season. My DS has been wanting one of his favorite team, so I made one for him for Christmas. I was amazed at how simple it was and wondered why I hadn't done this before. I think I'll be making more. Who did you make them for?

I have fleece for a blanket, but I am sewing a satin blanket binding on the edge.

I didn't get any of the sewing done that I wanted to for christmas except Littles snowman twirl top and now I'm finishing her Christmas outfit. I will have to stay up tonight and sew the binding on her blanket.
I didn't get Mac's fleece, he'll be bummed out so maybe I should wait until I have one for each of them???

BTW, here are the pics of the twirl top.

Is this a regular sized pillow or a travel sized? either way, how much material did it take?

Hurray!! It will be beautiful!!

Phew!! Shirring done, just adding the ruffle to Little's corset. MIL is just finishing the peasant top and the SLEEVES WERE TOO SHORT. No big, it's warm here and we decided to just put some elstic around the bottom and push them up over her elbow. Noone will ever know.

This is turning out GREAT!

Medicine Question???
Hi Everyone - you all seem to know alot about everything, so I just thought I'd ask - I've been feeling really crummy since wed - went to the Dr on friday - tonsilitis strep pharangitis - put on Omnicef and vicodin (for pain if i needed it). Okay so its sunday night now - the white spots on my tonsils are slightly decreased, but they are still very swollen and I can hardly swallow. I just want to sleep all the time. The vicodin helps some, but surely does NOT make the pain go away. What do you think? Is a different antibiotic better for strep? We leave for Disney in a week, and I want to be feeling better!!! Thanks for any advice!!!:santa:

HA! I'm shirring. That is SOO amazing. just thought I'd share.--how lame am I??

It's not that hard, is it? I was so scared of doing it, but it's so easy!!!! Let us see when you're done!

I told you guys it wasn't hard!! It's easy, as long as your sewing machine cooperates! Plus, it sure makes things fit better!

She looks adorble! Cute top! Does it drive you crazy how the people on wide screen tvs look short and squatty?

I made a Pirate one for DS, a Mickey one for DD, another Mickey one for DH, a smaller Mickey one for my nephew who is almost 2yrs, and a Cars one for my nephew who turned 4. Then I made one with a Southwestern theme for our dear friends, and an Atlanta Falcons one for our neighbors. THe Ariel blanket is for my niece.

Very cute top! Sounds like everything is coming together nicely for your Christmas.:santa: Sounds like it will be great!
Is this a regular sized pillow or a travel sized? either way, how much material did it take?
This pillow was a tube shaped pillow with those little beans in it. I found the UGA fleece in the remnants it was 1/2 yard. I used a little less than the whole piece. The back is red and I found it in the Remnant section too and I only spent about $10 on the stuff. I put Velcro on the opening to keep it closed.

I don't know what happened to my quote but wanted to tell Tifani congrats on getting a tree for $5

AND I forgot to add this earlier...

I got a message from Ariel and was told to pass it on...
Happy Birthday Lydia!!!!

Thanks guys. It is going to be a good Christmas. However, very humbling.

Her peasant top and corset are FINISHED my MIL and I are working together on the skirt to get it done tonight, I have to work tomorrow.
You know the blood banks only close 2 days a year, any more and they would not meet the blood needs of the hospitals.

EVERYONE who is eligable to donate blood should go out and do so this week. During the holidays the blood supply is always strained due to the rise in accidents and the deminished supplies, everyone gets caught up in the hustle and bustle and forgets to donate.

That 45 minutes of time and 1 pint of blood will save 3 lives. they seperate it into Plasma, Red blood cells and Platelets. If you take an extra 15 minutes to donate double red blood cells (those of you w/ blood that's high in iron) you will be able to help save premature babies who otherwise wouldn't have a fighting chance.
I''ve always been a blood donor but never really thought about how that pint of blood really SAVES lives until I started working for the blood bank and really seeing first hand the difference it makes in peoples lives.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Off to cut some tulle:scared:

I do not know where to find Disney tee-shirt material. I wanted to offer some other suggestions:) I have made two different types of slings. The first was a ring sling like a maya wrap. I used regular cotton material in a nice print and ordered the rings online. The second was a mei tai and I made is with a cotton blend that had a little spandex in it to give just a little stretch. I think tee shirt material would have too much stretch to it. It would get out of shape and be hard to get the baby in securely. I have a free pattern website for the mei tai if you are interested. Just let me know.

Good luck with your placement. All of my kids are adopted from foster care. They were our first and second placements:) We are no longer foster parents, but I do miss it.

Thank you for the info I think that it is the mei tai (5 yards of material? 6 to 7 for people that are fluffy like me ;) ) I saw a lady with them at Scottish Rite when Alex had his surgery and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I can see where it would be a very good thing for bonding with a foster child. Thank you for the info about the other material I will look into that.

That is awesome that your kids came from fostercare. We are hoping to adopt but are really enjoying being foster parents. Our last placement we knew would go home and the ones that are coming are more than likely the same. We are on the list for a little boy that is up for adoption that is 2 and half and are excited about the prospects of him. :) Thank you for the well wishes.

Hey ;) Alex's surgery went really well thanks for asking. He is walking around some. Seems to have healed very well and is a ton taller. :) We go for our final check up in Dallas in 2 weeks. Oh and here is the only thing I think I have posted about Alex's surgery on Dis ... Art the greeter at the BC and Bren (Tink901) sent Alex a great get well soon gift! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=21800362&postcount=171 I have not been to the bow shop is it great? I am going to have a 2 and half year old as of next week so bows will be a must. :cloud9: I need to exchange info with you and you can call me when you are in town. We are about 2 blocks from the lake and the park and loving it over here! Sharman's sends me emails I didn't see the new machine. I do agree you need to get one so I can just send you what I want embroideried and pay you! ;)

This does not sound right at all. I am not a doctor or nurse, but I have had strep plenty of times and always felt better after 24 hours of starting the antibiotic. Please go back to the doctor, maybe you also have something else.

Hey, we're back! We had a great time and I will post pictures later. I strained my back carrying Megan around so I am off to look for the heating pad and some pain killers. Hope to catch up tomorrow. I did see T's jumper top. Cute! And the Utah pictures: gorgeous!

You are very welcome. Here is the link to the instructions I used. They call it a man tai (because they used dad friendly fabric. I used pink and brown and it looked great. I will try to get a picture of Katie in hers. She will be three in a few months and I can still comfortably wear her.

http://www.baypathleos.com/mt_instructions.shtml

I think 5-6 yards will be plenty for you. Don’t forget your Joann's coupon :)

I hope your little boys is joining his forever family very soon. We were very lucky with both of our placements.

We had both of them places exactly 17 days from the day we told our agency what we could handle. When we got Katie she was 2 days old and we picked her up from the hospital. I asked for a healthy newborn girl, going straight for adoption with no siblings (we had already adopted a sibling group of 3), health issues or drug addiction. Our caseworker told us "good luck with that". Like I said they called 17 days later and I went and picked her up 30 minutes after the call. It was love at first sight

I should really post my "birth" story. Maybe after Chritmas. I think I talked DH into helping me wrap the rest of the Christmas gifts. I should run while he is willing.

Oh, and castlecreations, love that Cinderella dress! How long did it take you?

The dress took about 4 hours. It was really easy once I got going. The hardest part, was keeping the heavy material from sliding off the table as I was working on it.

As far as the strep throat goes posted earlier, I would def. go back to the doctor. I am a medical social worker, not a nurse, but you should def. be feeling better. Ask your dr. about amoxicillin, has always worked for me. What concerns me the most is that your dr. gave you Vicodin, an extremely addictive painkiller, for a sore throat. I would really question this dr. because that seems like a totally unnecessary med. Hope this helps and you start to feel better soon.
