Did someone say you made the applique out of a shirt? Where did you get the shirt again? That's awesome!

I believe the shirts originally came from Cracker Barrel. I stopped in at one a couple of months ago (before Halloween) and they had Halloween and Christmas Mr. Potato Head shirts, but nothing with the removeable pieces like in Tom's creation. I think the Christmas shirt came with markers or crayons to color in Mr. Potato Head.

I was able to score Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head shirts second-hand (NWT). Here's the picture of both...

Hi Leslie!!!!! I do believe this is your adorable child?
IMG_2644.jpg

I saw this in photobucket and I LOVE IT!!! What pattern did you use for the top? I want to case this, sort of! I mean with different material of course, but I just LOVE THIS!!! Please, Please, help me!!!:flower3:

JoJo's clothes all look adorable!

I need help guys! I need to make Dallas a penguin outfit and for the life of me I cannot find a cute penguin to base it off of. I had a card he received last year for his birthday and of course can't find it now! I have already done the surf's up guy so don't want him.

just a standard penguin. like a happy feet one?

Those look cute! I like the beads you used for filler. Did you tape the pin shut? I want to make a few more of these. Unfortunately, I have NO problem finding lots of little things to put in ours! Our house if a mess, there are things everywhere!
Oh don't get me wrong- this place is a disaster too- we just haven't gotten to the itsy bitsy toy stage yet. We had our first family christmas party this past weekend, and with all the cookie making, and general getting ready for christmas all I seem to have time for is making sure we all have clean socks to wear. :lmao: :lmao: and don't worry I am VERY cautious whenever I am near the laundry piles for fear they will attack and try to break my other elbow- especially right before a major holiday. (Last time it was July 3rd)

I don't remember if I posted the pics or not, but here they are. :)

As far as my machine, I'm going to try the advice I was given about cleaning the lint out and getting it really clean. I'm also thinking that it has something to do with my thread tension. :confused3 I'm definitely not sewing on the dresses again until I get it working right again.
Personally the wiggles freak me out but the outfits are really cute and I can appreciate all the time you must have put into those. :thumbsup2

Is it RRRR or ARGHHH.
Wanted to write(applique) that down the left side or on the back leg.
I was planning to do a pirate Mickey on the back leg like the top one. and then a treadure map.
or I would put the treasure map on the front and the appropriate RRR on the back.
help! - Thisis to match JoJo's pirate outfit!

Lori
I vote Arghhh but not real sure what the "right" answer is. Very cute though!!
ok, this is a matching Peasant top and tutu skirt for Jojo - am going to jazz up the peasant top with a sash maybe. not sure. it is a lot cuter without a flash drowning the color out.
th_IMG_0148.jpg

ok, have not made a top for this yet - will applique a mickey on a long sleeve tee I think to match!
th_IMG_0152.jpg

Have not found the perfect color tee for this to applique yet. may not work for the trip, but I'm working on it!
th_IMG_0151.jpg
Love the toile(sp?)- where did you all get that fabric- it is so pretty!! I love the mickey skirts they are soo cute and very versatile.

Love the pirate outfit. Is the music outfit for a meal somewhere. I haven't seen that fabric before. The Pirate is definitely my Fave!! The petal skirt outfit is a close 2nd though.....

Susan- So was this Nicholas' trip to the world?? You must fill us in. Never even thought of a tree exchange before, but people think of everything. So does it come with the ornaments like glued on???? How does that work?? I was just wondering....:confused3
Teresa- Heather will be back soon, but just think while she is gone you have butterscotch all to your self:rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry you are feeling foggy. That's not good- :grouphug: Hoping the Fog lifts soon!!!!

Wow, those are simply stunning! I can see why they took you so long to complete. I bet the girls were thrilled with them. Good luck with your machine!

Went on 4 night Disney cruise, then another 10 days at WL and SSR. It was wonderful, and so long that I felt like I was away forever.

15 foot waves first night of cruise...thank goodness for the scopalomine patch...was falling all over.

Mailing out my fabrics tomorrow...sorry it took me so long.

Had a wonderful time and everything was beautiful...the castle is breathtaking with the icesicle lights...and I was in a Christmas tree sharing and got a tree for one week.

Hope every one is well.

Susan

Welcome back! Can't wait to see pictures!

Wow, these are awesome! I really like the peasant tops with the skirts, which pattern is that? They really look beautiful. I think the Minnie dot petal skirt is my favorite: I'll have to try that some time. I think Megan likes the Cinderella toile.

Megan said, "JoJo sure likes her pose, doesn't she?" I think she might be jealous that Josephine can do it perfectly. She also thinks JoJo could be her sister.

Yeah, kind of but already all cartoony. Most of them look too cartoon like or the one I kind of like has this girl look to her. I might just draw it out without something, penguins are pretty simple atleast.

These are all great Lori! Which skirt pattern is this one? It's one of the YCMT, ones, right? I love the Toille Princess, I'm pretty partial to that fabric! Also love the blue/greenish Mickey! And the petal skirt. Ok, I don't think I can actually chose a favorite!

The roads are all nasty, so I haven't been able to get to my Mom's! That, and I can't drive when I feel like this. Today at least, the fog seems to have lifted from my brain!

Heather and I were looking on Ebay, and we saw all sorts of adorable saddles and outfits for Butterscotch! We think she is going to have to get some customs!

Heather emailed me last night. It seems that everyone but her is sick. Henry, Sawyer and Tessa. Poor them and poor Heather! I hope she doesn't get it too. Hopefully, they will all be feeling better soon.

I think everyone is saying Arrr

The Toile fabric actually is a purple sparkle. it is very pretty. Got it so long ago, I do not remember.

The music is just for fun and that fabric came from overseas!

WOW.. I feel so lazy now. These are just great Lori. Gotta love the prints big enough to cut out and applique. I never seem to have those and thus no appliques. I really need to get out some scraps and practice so I'm not so afraid of it.

I am positive it's ARGH (apply H's liberally)

TJ- if you talk to Heather send her well wishes from us. I hope you get to feeling better too. I felt that way last week but I had a cold, I wasn't taking cold medicine but there just seemed to be layers between me and the rest of the world. Take care of yourself

So I was looking at this book my MIL has about letting go of "baggage" in your life and learning how to correct some of those undesirable characteristics inflicted upon us at a young age...for those of you who don't know I've been learning to deal w/ my perfectionism for the last year or so (since I learned what it was)
ANYWAY, I realized why it takes me forever to complete my sewing projects. Perfectionists are often procrastinators ( I always have been, now I know why!). They fear not doing something up to the standards they set for themselves. This is SO true for me. My MIL is always saying, "well, Tifani, have you ever sewn a zipper before? Oh, No? Then WHY do you think you should be able to do it w/out any help???" Perfectionists also think that if they are smart and talented they should be able to pick up new things easily and quickly, even difficult things and are discouraged when it takes time to learn something new. Perfectionists procrastinate for lots of reasons. One of them is the fear of not finishing to perfection another is it gives them an excuse when it is NOT perfect. If you do something last minute then you can just say "well, I didn't have enough time to do it the RIGHT way or the way I wanted. I joke on here that done is better than perfect but I don't really mean it. I have been trying to get past this and remember that I've only just started sewing right before I found this thread AND I've been teaching myself. I am looking forward to taking some sewing classes at the Adult Education center here. But until then I am going along trying to take my time and learn how to do things right w/out pushing myself to be PERFECT all of the time.
So, I'm still not "whipping" anything up but I am working on stuff. Slowly, reading all of the directions and doing things by the book. That's another issue. My mom is a make your own rules kinda sewer but she has an eye that I don't have she is an artist and can visualize things where I have to have a plan for everything-even if I make the plan myself I have to be able to see it on paper. So I'm keeping my limitations in perspective and trudging on.
Sorry for the ramble, I just was looking at my basket of STUFF. I have no less than 5 projects all cut and ready to be sewn yet, no sewing. Then it dawned on me:idea: THIS is my perfectionism stealing time from me again. Perfectionism is a thief it promises the world but really it just takes time away from us, time wasted worrying that we are not perfect, planning to be perfect and trying to keep up w/ the standards our perfectionism sets.

oops rambling again, I'd better step away from the keyboard.

I think the peasant tops make them look more finished. I love the petal pattern as well! Want to make some other theme one's, but they take soooo long to make.

She loves that pose. it is her "signature pose". Oh and jojo would love more sisters!

That is very interesting. I always thought perfectionists had time management skills. It's like you are describing me! I never think of myself as a perfectionist. I have always thought of myself as a "jack of all, master of none". I can do most things well enough but I am not exceptional at anything (except maybe conversation!). I think it's because when somehting takes too long for me to learn, I give up and move on. Never thought my problem was perfectionism!!

AHHH, that's me. I'm exceedingly average at a LOT. But that isn't how I learned of my perfectionism. My house is always in a state of disarray. But when I want something to get clean, cause I've just had enough clutter and am fed up I will stay up for days on end cleaning. It's not uncommon during one of these tasmanian like whirlwinds for my family to go to bed w/ me cleaning and wake up w/ me STILL cleaning. B/C when things are "picked up" it allows me to see all of the details that I just CAN'T ignore, like the dusty baseboards or the stuff thats gotten between the stove and the counter. If it is merely "picked up" then I fell the need to really CLEAN, the kind of cleaning that requires hours of back breaking labor and a tooth brush. I have girlfriend who asked me to clean her house while she was out of town. When she came home I'd cleaned all of the louvres in the pantry door and organized all of her food.
My grand pointed out that I only like to clean when I have and entire day to do it. She said when you have an hour you just do whatever you can in an hour, something is better than nothing. But I didn't realize that that was exactly opposite of my thinking. If I couldn't devote enough time to it to do it RIGHT (scrubbing every spot and every corner) I just wouldn't do ANYTHING, b/c if you can't do it right what's the point. The POINT is I'd have less stuff to pick up next time...so I didn't clean the kitchen floor by hand (if I'm REALLY cleaning this is the only acceptable method) but I did sweep and mop it. Which is better than nothing.
I haven't made much progress. But i'm learning to tell my perfectionism to be quiet that if I get the dishes into the diswasher and don't have time to clean the cabinet fronts that is OK. But it seems I keep finding new places that my perfectionism has crept into. The worst part is realizing how much it has kept me from doing. Things I enjoyed but wasn't the BEST at so I didn't feel worthy of doing. Or things that took a while to figure out so I gave up. It's kind of sad really. But I am determined not to let this happen w/ my sewing. I REALLY enjoy finding patterns and putting fabrics together-I'm not an artist but feel I have a good eye for color and texture and this is a great medium for me, if I could just get enough confidence in my sewing skills I really think I would enjoy the actual sewing part too.

You really should check out flylady.net. Her misson started off helping people get & keep their homes clean, but it's grown into so much more than that. She also has a problem with perfectionism keeping her from getting things done & is learning how to control it. It's really helped me get past some of my problems (I still have trouble iwth not thinking I have enough time fro things, but I'm getting there). It might help you find ways to get around some of the perfectionism or at least help to know that there are a lot of others with the same struggles.

I have been a fly baby for years. I have a whole binder full of "ought to's" and "shoulds" I never have found it to be a really cooperative system for working moms. She doesn't give any sample routines for those of us in the daily grind. BUT I do try to keep on top of "hot spots" and have learned that as the kitchen goes so goes the rest of the house. Also I'm not online at home so I can't take advantage of the reminders and things. I should try to put more of the ideas to use. I just don't have an overl cooperative bunch. But we have used the "I can do anything for 15 minutes" philosophy w/ my son who is highly gifted and therefore has the attention span of a gold fish. Home work, chores, everthing gets timed. He can have a break to talk, write down ideas, get a drink whatever every 15 minutes. It works for us. To the untrained eye it would seem like we waste a lot of time but keeping him on task is such a challenge that when you find something that works you stick with it. Yes. Flylady was the first to open my eyes to my CHAOS and my grand (of course my ultimate home keeping guru) confirmed that I have always been a perfectionist. My girlfriends tell me it's kind of like the whole removing a splinter from your neighbor while ignoring the plank of your own....I'll be scrubbing the baseboards w/ a tooth brush and my Grand will be like, how about you pick the kids toys up from the livingroom floor first!! :rotfl2:
I'm so thick headed. But I've spent the last few days picking up and decorating for Christmas and I always swear that I'm never gonna let it get outta hand again, but I swear I'm not gonna let it get outta hand again:rotfl:
