This is probably too late, but I use the longest stitch length, at about a medium to tight tension. You need to play around with the tension to make sure that it is not too tight or too loose.

HTH!

Thanks! I was doing a corset top last night and it just wasn't working!! I may have to take out all those rows and start over! My machine only goes to a 5 in stitch length, is that ok?!

BTW another great creation, Tom!!

Yes, that should be fine!

Also make sure that your elastic thread is wound about half tight on your bobbin. Too tight and it will shir up too much, too loose and it won't shir at all! You can give it a good steam with your iron, and it will shrink up a little bit if it is too loose though.

Oh, and thanks!

I swear if I read the term "whipped up" around here one more time I'm going to flip. Nothing just "whips up" for me as a matter of fact when I think it's going to seems to be when I have the most set backs.

I'm right there with you!!! I cannot throw something together or whip something up!!!! I have to pulll out the seam ripper at least once (usually far more) in ever single project. My seam ripper and I are best friends now.

That's just about the sweetest thing!!! :bday:

I seem to recall a certain someone that was worried about her daughter becoming addicted to Webkinz! :rotfl: Cute as this is, it might be borderline addicted!!!!

Who the He#l said shirring was fun?! It's NOT working for me! Someone HELP!! What do you set the tension and stitch length at? That has to be the problem...don't you think? Someone post so I know what it's suppose to look like!

I know it's too late and Tom already answered this, but I wanted to tell you that I do the same... tension on the lowest setting, and stitch length on the longest. Also, don't backstitch at the beginning and end of your rows. When you're done, pull the top thread through to the bottom and tie knots using the top thread and elastic thread. Hope it works better next time!!!!

I've been working on a new outfit. This portion will either be the front of a jumper, or a peasant top. I haven't decided yet.

Or vice a versie!;)

I just whipped this up in a half hour! No biggie!:rotfl:

Not likely! It took me longer that that to pick out the fabric from the stash!

I had seen someone posted earlier that she made a peasant top in a half hour, and I don't seem to be able to get anything done in a half hour!
Ya time flies when you sew I tell ya! I did "whip" up two dresses but they were sooo easy...just pre-printed jumpers. I should post a pic! :rolleyes1 I absolutely love your dresses and the cute appliques. Great job! :thumbsup2

So I've spent like the ENTIRE day on the DCL forum. I have got it in my little mind (more so now) that our financial situation is about to make a U turn and that DH, the kids, inlaws and I will make our Halloween trip a land and sea affair next year. I'm probably crazy but planning stuff keeps me sane. I have a terrible OCD which require binders and folders and lists of all kinds...even though in every other aspect of my life I am terribly disorganized. I know it doesn't make sense but that's how it is. I'll have to start my custom planning well in advance-good thing I have some treasure map fabric!;)

You know if I could just get the hang of gathering the skirt and attatching it to the bodice I think I might could "whip" something up... I just have this perfectionist streak that makes me want perfectly spaced gathers which is just NOT possible for me. I really need to learn how to use that ruffler.

But seing as DD is opposed to the bibs on her dresses right now, I suppose I'll be making skirts for a while. The patchwork was easy peasy- except for that darned double ruffle trouble (I was secretly glad to leave it off!!) Of course I am planning a 2 layer tulle skirt for christmas, we'll see how it goes.

...t.

Does anyone else have the problem of catching part of the bodice when attatching the skirt (or a ruffle). I think I'm just about done when I notice some of the boidce caught in the seam!! ARRGG!! This has happened to me on the last 2 things I've done! I guess I need to slow down!

WOW!!!! This is an amazing piece of art!! Great Job!! This is soooo cute!!

I've decided to recreate the overalls we had for ds on our last trip (he has outgrown them). Anyone know where to find a Mickey applique/iron on. I found one at Walmart but it's too small. I looked on ebay but it's hard to tell if they are just fabric or the thick ones like the one that's on his old pair.

Any way you could get the old applique off his old overalls???

You are not alone sister.. and the last time I attatched a ruffle I had it PERFECTLY (or nearly so) pinned and somehow I ended up w/ a wrinkley and puckered seam, despite all of my straightening and stretching. GRRR. Like I said, it's a good thing she's into skirts:thumbsup2 Even though I LOVE a twirl top!

I don't know if anyone read my post a few days ago about having a hard time this Thanksgiving. It's our first Thanksgiving without Henry's Grandpa. His name was Stan and he was one of my best friends, as well as my Grandpa. He used to do all the cooking on Thanksgiving and we always went to their house. This year, Henry's Grandma Jo (Stan's widow) and some of her family/friends came to our house. We made it through with no tears, until Jo gave me my birthday present (my birthday is tomorrow, the 24th). First, here's the cake she got me:

th_11-22-07meandmycake.jpg

Then, she gave me this gift:

th_11-22-07Stanscross.jpg

I couldn't stop crying. This is Stan's cross that he wore every day of his life, for as long as I knew him. She gave it to ME. I was so overwhelmed with emotion and thanks for such a wonderful gift. She said he would have wanted me to have it and that he loved me SO much. I can hardly type this because I'm crying again.

Here's a picture of Stan, Jo, and Me being silly on Thanksgiving a few years ago (he's wearing the necklace). He was a tough looking old guy (a retired cop), but he was a big 'ol marshmallow:
th_StanJoMe.jpg

I just wanted to share this emotional event with all my new friends (and Teresa, of course). I knew you guys would understand.

Oh Heather, what a sweet gift. How wonderful to have had that type of relationship that she wanted you to have that. I'm sure it makes you sad but happy at the same time.

On a happy note, Happy Birthday!

I was so glad to see this last part, I wanted to throw my machine out the window if I see one more person "whip" something up in half an hour! I'm with you, it takes me that long just to pick out fabric. Don't even get me started with the rest of it!

Here is the peasant top I made for DD10 yesterday morning. The shirring on the arms wasn't as tight as I wanted, but I couldn't find my elastic thread and used some I found in my mom's old sewing basket. It is at least 20 years old. I also just chopped a few inches off of her hair.

And here are the girls in their (sort of) matching Thanksgiving outfits.

Jammy!!!! I JUST saw that fabric all folded neatly in your sewing room! You made some amazink outfits! Just GORGEOUS! Jayden's hair is cute! Tell her Norah misses her! For you:
November 24, 1974-

The day my life was forever changed. The day I received the most WONDERFUL gift I could have hoped for. The day I got a little sister and a best friend all wrapped up in a little blankie! What would my life be without you Heather??

When I was unsure and scared and shy, you were there to look at me and assure me that SOMEONE thought I was wonderful! At those times when I thought that the world would come crashing down on me, you were there, to hold my hand, and help me through. I am who I am today, because I had you for a sister.

I love you!
AWWWWWWWW! Happy Birthday HeatherSue!!!!! What'd ya GET???? :yay:

Absolutely UN-believable! WOW, that looks detailed! I don't even want to thik of how that would look if I attempted it. I have a feeling I'm not as patient as you :rolleyes1 WEBKINZ are such a big deal! I think my kids would love them!

HOLY SHNIKE's! That is bee-u-timous! I dig the color combination. I'm a huge fan of lime for Christmas. I made a wreath last year that takes up my whole wall with reds and lime...
Tom, you are a good whipper-upper. Kinda like I just hop on the busses in WDW last year with a full size stroller and a few diaper bags, camera bags, cooler, souvie bags, 3 sleeping kids, and 2 feet full of blisters? :3dglasses

Yeah! Just like park hopping is just a hop skip and a jump away!;)

Thanks for the comments everyone!

This actually took me 2 days to complete! Not that I worked on it solid both days, but still two days!

I use the elastic thread for gathering my skirts to the bodice too. Using a wide zigggy zaggy;) over the elastic thread. Dividing the skirt into four equal segments, (center front, left side, center back, right side). Pin the skirt into those areas first, then pull the gathers evenly around. I find this the easiest way to do it.

Now I do use the ruffler for each layer of the skirt, and for the bottom ruffle. Once you figure out how to optimize your ruffler it works great!

I just had a scare. I was surfing the web, and I came across a website and I clicked on the wrong thing, well the next thing I knew, my computer picked up a virus. YIKES!! It was some fake security thing. Thankfully I was able to get rid of it in a hurry, but what a pain.
I know this is OT, but please watch out...I'd hate for anyone to have a major crash and not get their daily fix of the DIS...

I would love to go on a Disney Cruise. We saw one of the ships leaving while Brian was fishing one year with his friend. (somewhere over in Cape Canaveral area, a park I can't remember the name of) and I was just beside myself with excitement!!! That thing is HUGE!

I HATE :headache: when that happens!!!

Ok T. forget about perfect ruffles, no one else besides you is going to notice or even care that the ruffles are not perfectly spaced! Figure out that ruffler of yours. Did you say it was clunking and broke your needle? Or, was that someone else? I was going to suggest that you make sure you have the right ruffler for the type of shank you have. low, high, or slanted. I know there are pictures of the different ones in the photobucket account.

I see that B has another show tomorrow night in Tampa. He sends me Myspace messages. ;)

I know what Heather got today! Stubbed toes! OUCH! I hope your little toesies are feeling better Heather!

OHHHHH how freaky!

A few months ago I googled something totally innocent and up popped the WORST porn....several images on this front page!!! !!! Thank God my kids were not in the room! I'd give anything to keep them away from those things I saw. Consequently, we upped the security screening BIG time. You can never be too careful!

We caught a virus once and ended up having to get a new hard drive. Love the internet, but there's such baaaaad people out there. Be careful.
