Remember the outfit I posted about a couple of days ago? The thanksgiving outfit that was making me a little ungrateful? The stinking ruffler was giving me fits, and I almost threw the machine out the window! Well, I WON! I got it finished in time for my DD to wear it to her Thanksgiving Feast at school today. So, here it is!

This is too cute! Your daughter is adorable!

Okay, who jinxed this thread? After many years of playing basketball, volleyball, training and running a marathon I NEVER sprained my ankle. Today as I was coming down the stairs the phone started to ring so I picked up my pace to answer it and severely sprained my ankle. My DH thinks I did it so I don't have to clean the house for all his relatives. Please think positive thoughts for my foot since we leave in 27 days for WDW and we are commando style tourers. It's also my right ankle, which is my driving foot for the sewing machine.

Jham- love the thanksgiving outfit. Maybe next year she'll still be able to wear the top, it'll just be a little shorter. That's why I love the twirl skirts, just make them a little long for the first year and should still be okay for the next.

Aimeeg - the Cinderella dress is great. Such an original idea.

Very cute!

I thought it looked like it could have taken awhile! What a nice thing for you to do though!

Did you use a water and bleach mix? What sort of ratio? I really love the way these look!

When the shirts were all banded, we put them in a big tub. One of those tubs that looks like a huge sand bucket. I filled it with water and poured in a bunch of bleach until the shirts were covered. Sorry I don't know the ratio. It was a lot of bleach, though. Maybe 30%? We stirred the shirts every once in a while with a piece of wood (our swingset is falling apart). When the shirts started to look slightly lighter, we dumped the bleach mixture. It wasn't until after the shirts were washed did they look really lighter.

I had also heard of using the Rit dye remover to do the shirts. I actually did a test shirt before the party to see how it would turn out. (It just so happened that I had a red shirt in my closet. I have a Mickey shirt, too!) The Rit didn't do anything so I used the bleach.

Okay, I finally finished my "casual" princess outfits! Excuse the pics but my models were completely uncooperative today!
I added Aurora to DD1's pants:

This is the outfit I made for DD4:

Maybe I can post pics of them in the complete outfits tomorrow!

They look wonderful! Wow!

DS2 had a Mickey Mouse birthday party in October. I bought all the nieces and nephews shirts and sewed Mickey heads on them with dental floss. I then rubberbanded the heads so no one would know that's what they were. Of course, my sister guessed what I was up to. Anyway, for the party, all the kids took their shirts and added rubberbands to make tie-dye-type shirts. Instead of using tie-dye, we put the shirts in bleach. When we took the rubberbands off, everyone had a Mickey shirt. Some of the girls added spray-on glitter to their shirts. Here's how they turned out. The blue ones are for the boys.

These look great! I know so little about tie dyeing. How did you get the Mickey heads bleached in? Was it the dental floss or the rubberbands?

Go you! Victory! :cool1: :yay:

I love this outfit. When I take my lunch and look at all of the great creations is one of the few times that I hate that my kids wear uniforms to school every day. *sigh*

Thanks so much! I wanted to try to get a pic of them today wearing them. I will try to get my DD4 wearing hers, but my youngest is off to the doctor! She has an extrememly bad case of diaper rash, so all she has done is cry!:sad1: She is sooo sad! She won't even let me hold her on my hip she is in so much pain! So hopefully she will get some medicine to make her feel better, but I will not torture her by trying to make her model! Ohwell, maybe I can bribe my DD4 into modeling hers later, we'll see! Off to the doctor!

Thanks! I get it now!

One thing I forgot to mention. When the shirts are finished, if there's something you don't like, you can use the bleach pen to fix it up. We did this with DD4's shirt. The Mickey was a little hard to see, so I used the pen. It didn't work completely, but definitely an improvement.

Let me just start off by say I love love love all the things all of you have been sharing I hope to add to the pics sometime this weekend.

Ok so I had to get up early to rush all us Ivie girls to get ready to drop hubby off at work so I can take the car.

1. Parent teacher meeting.
2. Take cans to get recycled.
3. Grocery shopping
4. Pick hubby back up from work. (half day today)
5. Mail a package ( I wonder how long I will be in line.)
7. Take DD6 to Eye dr.
8. Do :rolleyes1 about 6 loads of laundry at the laundry mat :woohoo:
9. Make hubby Cook dinner because after all I did turn 28 today.

He is so lucky he is taking me to disneyland for our anniversary which is sunday. Yes we got married 3 days after I turned 21 :woohoo: :yay: :thumbsup2

I took the Mickey head template and used chalk to draw around it onto the shirt. Then I stitched the shirt with dental floss. Pull the dental floss tightly together and tie it. Make sure the inside of the Mickey is sticking out. Does that make sense? That way, the inside will get bleached. Take a rubberband and twist it around the dental floss. Twist it very tightly. After doing 9 of these, my fingers were sore. Some of the twists were so tight, we used scissors to cut off the rubberbands.

Take different parts of the shirt and rubberband them. Where ever you put a rubberband, the color will stay. Here's a pic of DN10 with a shirt rubberbanded:

Throw the shirts in bleach/water for 1/2 hour. Wash in the washing machine. Take off the rubberbands. Throw in the dryer. Viola! Cool shirts.

Happy Birthday!! Hope you have a great one, and Phew..I am tired just reading about your day!

SEW cute! This jumper is on my to-do list for my girls, although mine won't be as cute. I'm just to scared to try it yet. I better hurry, though. I'm using the winter Mickey fabric. If I keep procrastinating, it'll be ready in the summer.

Oh just try it!!! I procrastinated on it for awhile and finally this week I decided to try the YCMT stripwork jumper for a Thanksgiving outfit for my DD. It was SOOOO easy. I think the first one took a little over 2 hours and the second one I made for my DN only took like an 1 1/2! I didn't do the stripes though I only used one piece of fabric to go around and I do have a ruffler foot, but it was still very easy and I am going to start on my Christmas stuff today!:santa:

So far I have cut the fabric out for all three overalls and I believe I am going to have enough. Unless something goes horribly wrong.:scared: . I know I have a month left to get this done but I promised my self I was not going to be up late Christmas eve finishing them. Thanks for the support. :grouphug: I am headed off to sew wish me luck. If I would have known my sewing machine was going to be my greatest enemy. I would have asked for a glue gun. :lmao:
:rotfl: about the glue gun!!! Good luck!

Okay, so, a while ago, after Heather finally got some more brown sparkly fabric, I found it! And I was so excited, I had to buy some, even though Heather already had hers! :rotfl2: It just suddenly seemed so rare and valuable!

Kids cracky me up).

Ah...the ever elusive brown sparkly fabric!! A rare find, indeed! Cracky- still funny! In fact, when I read "I crack myself up", I often think "They forgot the y".
I LOVE this outfit!!! Incredibly cute!! But, don't you know that you're wasting your time? That child would look fabulous in a potato sack!!

My son went to the dentist for the first time in April (he was 5) and he had 8 cavities. He had to get 4 silver caps and have 4 baby root canals. I felt like the worst mom in the world. Don't feel bad!!! I learned that day that having bad teeth can be heriditary. I also learned that day that my MIL went to the dentist once and had 40 cavities. Yes, I said 40! 20 on one side and 20 on the other. My husband's grandmother had all her teeth pulled for false teeth at 35 years old b/c hers were bad as well!

Heather I feel your pain on this one, my DD had 3 the first time she went to the dentist, 3 more six months later, 1 more that they just found at her appt on Monday. She also has to get two fillings replaced, one fell out and another one is loose! I don't feel like we should have to pay anything for the 2 replacements neither one is more than a year old!!!! I am very embarassed by the amount of cavities that she has had, my DS only a year younger, has had 1 cavity. I don't understand they eat the same things, I brush their teeth the same way DS must just have better teeth than DD! DS must have teeth more like mine, I didn't have my first cavity until I was in 6th grade, my DH on the other hand(as does my MIL) has a mouthful of fillings....it must be somewhat hereditary! Hang in there with Tessa, I know my DD HATES the dentist now. She is just terrified at what they are going to do, she will barely walk in the door for a cleaning!

I'm so glad you guys shared!! Tessa has EIGHT cavities!! I was feeling so guilty about it. I know I don't have a reason to, though. She brushes her teeth 2x a day and I help her out at night. She also flosses. She doesn't get pop more than once a week or so, not much candy (except for at Grandma's), juice, fruits snacks, etc... Our family is just cursed with thin enamel (that's what the dentist said at least). I get 2 cavities a year on average and the dentist always comments on my "excellent dental hygeine". I am going to start having her brush after lunch now, too and any time she eats candy or something sticky. The poor kid.

This is such a cute idea!

My 4 year old dd has 4 caps/cavitys. Her dentist won't fill them because he dosen't want to tramatize her and get her scared to goto the dentist. So, he caps them, and then they will fall out. The cap stops any farther decay. Her twin has no cavities and I brush them both the same. The dentist says that one just has more enamel on her teeth and the teeth are just stronger. This is common from what he tells me.
I'd never heard of caps preventing further decay and being an alternative to fillings. Does it cost more than fillings? It sounds like something I might want to check out. But, she is having a lot of pain from one of her cavities, so they might have to fill it or something. I don't know how that works.

I have nightmares about going to the dentist when I was a kid...there was no fluoride and we had an old Navy dentist...I was 6 and had a toothache...my mom sent me to the dentist alone. He said he was going to have to pull my tooth and I said NO...so he pulled my ponytail and tied me to the chair with a sheet! and he pulled my 6 year permanent molar....I have that space to prove it to this day...
Oh you poor thing . First the awful labor story and now this!! It's a wonder you don't run screaming at the site of medical personnel! Or, do you? ;)
